Favorite techno DJ: Richie Hawtin. Owns all of your DJs, hands down. Who else plays live (and extremely well, I might add) on 3 turntables, using Final Scratch, Ableton Live, a Roland TR-909, a Red Sound C-Loops, an outboard effects mixer, two MacIntosh laptops, and a custom one-of a kind mixer that lets him control midi triggers with built in dual LFOs? Furthermore, no offense, but anyone who mistakes progressive house for hard trance is a fucking idiot. COMPLETELY different sounds. I agree that americans have nitpicked edm down to an incomprehensible number of subgenres, but certain differences are real. The difference between house and trance is quite stark. I would equate progressive house to tech-house more than anything.

Hey, opinions are like assholes - everybody has one. The main thing to remember is it's all dance music, right? Then we all should be dancing together, even if it's to a different beat.;)

I agree with Sid. Oakenfold is an overrated train wreck specialist. He is the most bad ass DJ in the "holy shit that is terrible" category, as well as being responsible for developing Goa. WHY.

Why in the world would anyone want to shut this thread down over a conversation regarding who the best artists are? That is perfectly legitimate. I am not calling anyone's girlfriend a whore and giving out BLers real names, now am I?
 
^^^i'm not going to argue..... its not my lifes dedication to defend djs..... but shouldn't you support the fact that he has made it so big???? i fucking hate d&b but i don't down it all the time..... i happen to like paul oakenfold.... sue me... not my fault i like "terrible" music...... i do however hate that operatic shit on that disc..... i'm with you on that..... but never tell anyone i buckled.....;)

IT"S ALL GOOD. This is a fun topic. I wanted to add "BT" to the list. Brian Transeau has never been given the credit he truly deserves. Not only is he a virtuoso pragrammer, but also an extremely gifted musician.
Lately I've been paying more attention to the people who write our music. I'm currently writing 2 songs using new software I was able to get from a friend. In the future look for tracks from " Biz N Gravy ". Yes, that be Me and Scott Z.
