The "I can't sleep" megamerged insomnia thread

An over the counter medication called "Restavit" works excellent. The chemical in it is Doxylamine Succinate.

Seems to work a treat!

shals :D

try doing some exercise, i used to have massive probs falling aslepp, but exercise is working well for me!

Jack off, watch tv, lay in bed tossing and turning, or force myself to stay up by playing comp games mindlessly until I feel like I could die of sleep deprivation...Always works like a charm!

Things effecting your sleep.

Can certain foods effect how you sleep?

I always remember someone telling me not to eat cheese before bed, and i did the other night and had weird dreams. Is there anything in this? Are other foods bad?

hmm excellent question Gilly.. i've seen quite a few reports from others saying that 5-HTP before sleep makes for very lucid dreams.. i'm not really a dreamer and only remember 2-3 dreams a year.. perhaps someone else might be better qualified to answer.. :)

For better sleep

Foods to Avoid

Alcohol, coffee, tea and colas.

Drink plenty of water during the day to flush toxins from your body. Do not drink liquids 4 hours prior to going to bed to avoid having to go to the bathroom at night.

Protein foods without carbohydrates.

Protein eaten by itself can keep you awake due to amino acids that stimulate your brain functions. However, protein consumed along with a carbohydrates (potatoes, rice, pasta) changes the structure of the amino acids and promotes better sleep quality.

Spicy foods

Spices can stimulate your body systems and keep you awake all night. Avoid spicy foods after 3-4pm.

easy and Fatty foods.

Most people feel tired after eating a heavy meal... but for a good sleep eating these kind of foods for dinner is not recommended. They can slow you down temporarily but also can cause gas and indigestion which in itself can inhibit your sleep.

Foods for Sleep.

Fruit or Yogurt

A carbohydrate snack or dessert just before going to bed can promote a good nights rest.

Cookies & milk, fresh fruit or a light dessert.

A good tip here is to save your after dinner dessert for an hour or so before bedtime to help you to sleep.

Cheese & Crackers

An ever popular combination.

Tryptophan and Melatonin

These are dietary supplements that induce sleep. Over the counter supplements, they are available at most drugstores. Check with your doctor before using these suppliments.

Turkey Sandwich

The secret for a better nights rest is to blend a balance of both protein and a carbohydrate foods.

Protein Foods - include eggs, nuts, milk, cheese, meat, beef, chicken and yogurts.

Carbohydrate Foods - includes apples, bananas, oatmeal, cereals, muffins, cakes, breads and fruit juices

Great Bedtime Snacks - includes bananas, milk, apple juice, fruit juice and cottage cheese.

i strongly disagree with that. 5-HTP did not make me dream at all, in fact i dreamt less when i took it...hence i no longer take it, it's 4 depressed people or people that have consumed E

I think eating anything at all before going to sleep isn't good. Your body then does not shut down as completely as if you had already digested/eaten a few hours before going to sleep.
Too often I eat to close to when I try to fall asleep, and I have no energy the next day. I think like 2-3 hours before bed you're not supposed to eat anything. Not sure on this but that's what I've heard.

Other things affecting your sleep:

Stimulants: anything with caffine, or nicotine (and this may not apply to "directly" after you sleep. Persons who consume large amounts of caffine even in the early afternoon can have problems sleeping)

Physical Activity: if you don't get enough, people can remain wired awake. If you get too much in the evening or at night, you can be too pumped up to sleep.

Mental States: The current state of your emotions definately affect your sleep.

I would totally agree with that. 5-HTP an hour before sleeping makes me have incredible dreams. It also quickly refreshes me after sleeping so I wake up very alert.

I'm quiet a good sleep and dont have to many things which effect it, except maybe when I was withdrawing a lot of valium and or experience a lot of anxiety.

shals :D

5-htp has made me have some interesting dreams, but "goon" also makes me have extremely weird dreams.

I don't know what it is in cask wine that sends me all funny during my sleep, but most of the time the dreams are never "good" when I've been hammering the goon like a champion.

I have a really hard time sleeping if my stomach is full when I go to bed. I either can't fall asleep or when I do fall asleep I have night mares and wake up a lot.

I was told that it's best to not eat anything 4 hours before bedtime, so you don't gain weight and I feel that it's also helpful for sleeping.

Booze or weed tends to make me sleep.

Um. Otherwise, milk works, cheese too.

Had 5-htp today, as mother finally got sick of my week long comedowns from E and bought me some, so it'll be interesting to see how that affects my sleep and my dreams.

Bubble hash puts me out like a lite.

I want to try mixing opium into it.

Anyone done this??

SERIOUS sleeping problems

PLEASE HELP!!!

Lately, I've had a lot of anxiety because I'm preparing to take the LSAT next Saturday. This anxiety has been taking over my life to the point that I CANNOT sleep anymore.

I wouldn't call is insomnia because I have been falling asleep....it's just that I've been tossing and turning every night, sometimes for hours before I fall asleep. Then, I usually have some off the wall dream that wakes me up and I'm for another hour or so, until I fall asleep again...then I can't get up in the morning.

I've never had trouble sleeping through the night; and, I've never had trouble falling asleep in my entire life.

I do the typical falling asleep techniques: dimming the lights a few hours before I'm heading to bed, I sleep with the clock facing the wall so I cannot see it, I try not to keep books or electronics in my room (feng shui-these items bring energy into the bedroom that keep you awake), and I sleep in pitch black and rarely turn the light on in the middle of the night (which startles you awake).

Seriously guys, even sleeping pills aren't helping me.

Does anyone have any ideas (I'm not looking for a drug alternative) to helping me sleep through the night...It's absolutely crucial that I start getting the rest I need these next couple of weeks before this test...and I'm stressing about it, which I know is making the situation worse.

Please help me!:X
