the guitar players megathread

(I have to say I woulda picked thurston's though--love the f*ing fat singles!!)

Yeah, I think most people seem to think I'm crazy for going for Lee's version. But I don't care. I like my humbuckers.

All my stuff's entry level as i decided to pick guitar up on a whim last june.

Which reminds me, I really do need to learn the viola.

I like a lot of post-punk. Very rhythmic based with scratchy guitars and lots of shouting and screaming. But then I grew up right where Gang Of Four recorded their Entertainment album, and Delta 5 recorded Mind Your Own Business (they the studio down some years ago and built a fuckin' ASDA on top of it! :X).

you got a last.fm?

Of course. :)

what do you think of burns guitar like this one?
vibraartist800.jpg

Some of them are nice, but some of them are kinda fugly. I'm not so keen on that one. But then, I don't really like gold hardware. I kinda like this green one though. Though in terms of the technical side of things, I know nothing about them Aside from the fact that they seem to have an awful lot of unnecessary switches.

Your influences' influences are really important. I think Tribal Girl said the same thing, but you can learn a lot by following the timeline of music back a few decades. A lot. It's fun and it gets you listening to a much wider variety of music. I really hate answering the question "what style do you play?" Or "what type of music do you like?" as I'm sure any musician could relate.

i always though jazzmaster were amazing and i suppose i still do but, the other day i tried one in the guitar shop it was like £1300 and the saddles were all buzzing and it played like a piece of shit. whats the deal?

Unfortunately that's one of the problems with Jazzmasters and Jaguars alike. Oftentimes there's a lot of buzzing going on. Which is why I replaced the bridge on my Jaguar with a roller schaller bridge, and the Jazzmaster has a Mustang bridge. It's the screws. If you don't know what you're doing, they tend to get a bit buggered. Too much fiddling involved for my liking.

I guess the one you tried was buggered. I would have asked them to adjust it just for the sake of it. It only takes a professional a few minutes. But if you randomly tweak you can make matters worse, believe me. They're nice guitars though. I always prefered Jaguars, but I'm warming to Jazzmasters a lot more these days.

this took along time given my noob status as a photographer and photo editor, but here is my guitar:

what a shitty upload system...whatev

edit by TG: I made it a bit better. Try using photobucket to upload pics in future, that attachment thing is pretty rubbih. Also, what's up with that scratchplate?. Is it metal?

forgive the multiple posting; my setup:

That Ibanez is a POS...not bad if you leave the volume at a neighborhood courtesy level though.
Crank it and it sounds like it's coming apart at the seams...$25...totally worth it for a starter

The pickguard.
A girl I dated did an art project for me--pretty cool I think.
I've got another one in the works.

I took a picture of me playing too...but decided against putting it up out of prudence.;)

1941 D45??

Mmmmmmmmmmm....Martins.

I really want a good-quality Martin, but I've been drooling over this Breedlove for awhile now:

That monitor hole in the side of the guitar really lets your hear what you're playing. Not to mention that it plays extremely comfortably and sounds smooth as butter.

oh nice.

ive never seen a 'monitor hole' on a guitar, looks like an old trick;-)
i bet that thing sounds smooth as butter and rings as loud as you want it to.

i could of played a D45 once but i was young but new my hands were shaky soooo.
heheh - i asked the owner to just play it.

my guitar i bought off amazon new for $40,,, lol. a cut-away acoustic, the resonance on it can get carried away but i like that now(harmonics everywhere), i dont use a pick so i mute often anyway. the thing will sit for weeks sometimes and only slightly go out of tune.

:)

i used to have a martin d16gt but i ended up selling it for drugs.

at the moment for acoustics im rocking a yamaha fg-335 its like 30 years old. i think its decent.

yeah that monitoring hole is a crazy weird great idea

yamaha acoustics are always quality ive noticed, from the cheapest on up

I wish I could say I wasn't jealous...especially since it was basically just given to him :\

Hey Fixed! I like Dave from Minus the Bear too,but that`s not where I first heard him. Have you listened to Botch at all? Totally different sound from Minus the bear.
I think a lot of people consider Botch to be one of the originators of "math-core" or math rock. What ever the hell its called. Don`t get me started with all these sub-genres. Any way it`s heavy, fast and aggressive. When I want to rock out I like to listen to them.
On the subject of being bored with playing guitar or feeling stagnant,I feel the same way every now and then. For some reason playing bass with a heavy fuzz pedal really gets my creative juices going. If I`m playing with a clean tone some times I`ll feel lackluster and get tired of it(not all the time but sometimes). But when I stomp on that Muff pi or any other one of my fuzz/overdrive/distortion pedals I have a blast!
Maybe you need to go out and get a new effects pedal to play with and inspire you. I warn you though, collecting cool effects can become addictive. And pricey.

Multi-effects pedals can also be useful for getting that creativity flowing. You have a huge selection of effects and settings and options right at your fingertips. GRANTED, the effects aren't gonna sound as good as a dedicated effects pedal, but it'll let you figure out what sound you're really striving for and direct you in sculpting your perfect pedal board.

This is the one I used for awhile:

bass with fuzz is great; ever tried bass with tremolo, or delay...
