The Engagement/Wedding/Honeymoon thread

this was a BLR's wedding I was in a few years ago.... It was nice and simple and wonderful.

This would definitely come down to investigation. I'm not giving my money to charities that support X, Y, Z, etc. on principle, but if I can find something a bit more moderate than this could really work. I love helping with aid/relief effort if I can. I would hope that there could be some form of tangible component to this (aside from a piece of paper showing that I donated $X), though.

Thanks for the quick ideas. :)

i understand. Kiva.org is my favourite charity I've ever been involved with, I don't think I can donate to anyone else ever in my entire life. The idea of microfinance loans is a little iffy -- but they give complete credit info about all their partner banks in the other parts of the world, and they've even suspended all their India loans re: microfinance scandal. I've only invested 25$ in it, but made all of it back, reloaned it 3 times, and helped 3 people pull themselves out of poverty. <3 it's the best.

amy, that dress is gorgeous <3

Busty & CS -- i'm never going to Maui

^ Thank you!!! I'm going to have a single layer veil with fairly small beading on the edges. Obviously the dress has a lot going on so I don't want to have too much else as a visual draw. At the same time I want to remain somewhat traditional. :)

Here is an example of something I'd buy (haven't done so as of yet):

lol, I can understand your concern. But the wedding starts at 5 and everything (minus a few pictures) are inside the same, well air-conditioned location (wedding, cocktail hour & reception). :) Oh yeah, and everybody gets a shuttle so you guys can get sloshed. Hooray!

^ Thanks girl! Your wedding sounds awesome. We're working hard trying to figure out where we're going to honeymoon. It's kinda hard because we're not paying for it and we haven't exactly been given a solid budget.

Here's my gown (minus the black belt... couldn't find a pic without that belt)

Here's a close-up of the way it's fitted.

Beautiful!!
You're going to look amazing!

How exciting! I recently got engaged and we're still in the process of setting the date - that's if we don't elope when he head off to New York in a couple of weeks! I'm gung-ho about a winter wedding.

What beautiful dresses and wedding pics here - lovely :)

I didn't post much about our wedding last October 23rd, it was a low key very much family and close friends affair at a castle (http://www.lawcastle.com/)we rented for the whole weekend. We had a Humanist Ceremony (http://www.humanism-scotland.org.uk/) a non-religious ceremony, that was just amazing and so personal for us as a couple.

Being that bit older I didn't do white, I went for a purplish / merlot colour which was much more flattering for my skin tone / hair. We didn't go for a lot of the traditional wedding things - no favours, no big cake etc. Cletus did the photography as he's excellent at pics and we had all our guests give us their photos too, the mad after party ones were especially excellent. Being in the castle lended itself to a much more "quirky" do that was very us :D

What I wanted to do and never found the time to arrange it was instead of a guest book of comments, was to do a thumb-print tree on a large canvas where each guest makes their mark as leaves on the tree and writes a wee comment around it.

I love being married to Felix - it's a personal agreement between us about how we want our relationship to be and the commitment we've made to each other as we go into our later years lol. It was all about us and we were quite selfish about that, after all it was our big day ;)

So I'm all in for non-traditional, quirky to suit the personalities weddings!

^^ Your wedding sounded particularly fun and very personalised. So happy for you both :)

Congrats on your engagement doris delay!! <3

My sibling's weddings have all been very different, but all amazing, of course.

First we had my older brother's wedding (my sister-in-law is catholic):

Then two different beach weddings (for both of my sisters):

My oldest sister is a cricket fanatic :)

I have no idea how I would like my wedding to be. All I really want is it to be small/low-key, to wear a pretty dress, to have beautiful photos, and for me to sing :)

the only other wedding i was a part of was my older sister's:

she got married in our grandmother's house, it was nice and low key, i guess, it seemed like there were lots of people there, but it was a cool setting and everything seemed to fit just fine (it was a buddhist wedding, which was interesting in it's own way)

amy, i promise not to get loaded in front of your mom <3

One amazing thing that my sister-in-law, brother-in-law and dad did for us was to gather photos of both of us from baby until now, then all of our 'together' photos, and have them made into bound books for us. The 'us' album was then passed around the reception and people signed it (yearbook style). It is absolutely wonderful <3

Every wedding that you have all posted about (including my own lol) sounds so wonderful. In my opinon, there is no one 'right' wedding - in my not so humble opinion, as long as the wedding oozes you as a couple, and is filled with love, laughter and happy-tears, you did good. :D

We'll hopefully be getting our wedding vid back soon, so i'll post a link to it as well :)

Kate: Your wedding was a week before ours - we wanted to get married on the 23rd, but the place we had our heart set on (and our budget allowed) was booked on that date - so we went with the 30th, still a wonderful day - but we got engaged on the 23rd October, so now that whole month rocks (my birthday is on the 3rd) =D
