The EADD Sickness and Pain Thread ver Pain of the Wrist & Cock

Fragmin perchance? They always come round to stick me with that when I'm in hospital, 6pm on the dot every night. Stings a whole bunch more than the tiny needle suggests it might.

Yes that's what I had last time. Still got boxes of Fragmin unopened at home. Had to inject myself in my stomach fat each day for about 6 months last time. Stomach was bruised up all over the place.
Have got an appt at the hospital on xmas eve so will show them my leg then unless it gets worse before then.

I had to go and look it up as Fragmin didn't sound familiar, it was Clexane and it did indeed sting like buggery.

This last week I'm actually seeing some genuine improvement in pain, I suspect the lack of physical activity has helped my back recover but the post op pain is definitely subsiding. My consultant seemed happy enough with it but dropped into the conversation that I'm going to have to have all the metal work taken back out in 18 months because if it was left in place it would prevent the future knee replacement I'll inevitably need...something to look forward to ;)

I had a bit of an assessment at the physio and my left leg has less than half the strength I have in the right but it looks a damn sight straighter now so it looks like it will all be worth it in the end.

All the best to you Josh, hoping 2015 sees you go from strength to strength

Jeez Allein, it must seem neverending for you all these operations. I bet you can't wait for it all to be finished with.

Aha, the pain thread. I'm totally out of it at the moment but I bet I'll be posting here tomorrow.

I've got a to go for X rays and shit next week to check it's all OK, things are getting better and the physio seems to think it's not a bad job despite my knee sounding like its got a bag of gravel in it :D

Nerve pain seems to be an ongoing issue that is overcoming my Amiltriptyline, I'm fucked if I'm trying that Gabapentin stuff again though, i'd rather put up with the odd tazer like shock thanks.

This should be the last operation for the time being though, I've got to have the metal work taken out in about 18 months time because the bolts would obstruct the inevitable knee replacement but that shouldn't be a big deal and regardless of how straight or not my leg turns out I'm not letting them have another go at it.

@Josh, I saw your post the other night saying you were going in for another op and thought about you today (nothing creepy;)) I hope it all went well and that, in time your more comfortable

Quick update, had my leg checked out and they don't believe it is a dvt again but just down to poor circulation after the dvt.
Echocardiogram on Monday to see if my heart has improved, got worse or stayed the same.

Well done Josh... Hope you're smacking the crap outta that button and enjoying your tax payers opis... <3 ;) Get well

Apparently each button press is giving me just 1mg of morphine (not even fent like usual?), doesn't sound like a very big dose to me? Have to wait about 10mins between clicks and I'm on 38 clicks since 5pm ish last night, no pain in the bits that have been cut open, just bloaty pain because the stoma isn't active yet, and no painkillers touch bloaty pain.

Current state of play from my pov:

So long as you're not in to much pain but that does sound very under dosed. That'd put an equivalent codeine dose into micro grams :?

I don't follow?
Though I guess my last post made little sense.

A dose of 90mg Morphine induces recreational effects on me, yet I can still feel the pain while nodding.

The combination of our conversations does sort of confirm my 1mg dose is rather low, although that is IV and I get to repeat it every 5mins (not 10 like I thought before I got bored and started pressing buttons on the "driver" and found some more info out).

Josh, just remember that opiates also delay the intestine activity (bloaty pain)...
Try chewing gum or having a small drink to help with that (recovery of digestion, not pain). But you probably already k ow this too well...

Yeah, it's a tricky one to balance because the opioid also increase the nausea, which I don't need right now (being sick with that much wound on your abdomen hurts man). But I'm pretty sure if I didn't take any opioid at all, I'd still have no stoma activity (and a fuck load of wound pain, I've got about 3" from scrotum to the area that was formerly my arsehole as well as 8" and the stoma hole round the front) - an ileus for a couple of days after your small bowel has been handled is so common it's practically guaranteed, I'm just nervous because last laparotomy I had in 2012, it took about 6 long, painful weeks in hospital to shift. But I was nearly dead that time, now I'm just pretty sick instead :p

I was just gonna ask for pix of your shiny new operation scars but may leave those to my imagination instead under the circumstances ;)

Hope you're feeling much better soon and have a press or two on that button for me whilst you're in there <3

There's one of the other end on my Dropbox too but I'm saving that for when I literally stop caring about my dignity! Although I did ask a nurse to photograph my bare arse this morning and she agreed. Not sure if I should be ashamed or proud of that fact...
