The EADD Mental Health Support Thread

PolkaDot: Interesting(ish) theory that there fella has, but even in those two paragraphs it reeks of snakeoil. Fish oil does not cure depression, schizophrenia and - most certainly not - criminality. Sounds like a flat-out nutjob and/or charlatan tbh. Based on all of two paragraphs reading ;)

He's also wrong on the grammar thing - that also exists in other species' communications and is one of the prime reasons it can be effectively deciphered -true language requires some form of grammar otherwise it's just pointing at stuff in vocal form. To convey complex meaning grammar is kinda fundamental and is certainly not restricted to human language.

And on the other thing, I tend to agree that talking therapies are massively superior to drug treatment for many mental health issues - especially depression and related conditions. Sad thing is that the only talking therapy most GPs offer is CBT which just doesn't do a damn thing for me. Leaves me cold in fact. Does work a treat for a great many peeps though and would certainly recommend trying that at least twice or thrice before accepting SSRI treatment.

PS: Going back to the evolutionary leap bit, I definitely favour the McKenna (and many others') idea that it was likely to have been psychedelics (most likely psilocybin fungi) that were the bridge between "big-brained dum-dum" and modern man. Just have to look at the artwork and artefacts really - how many fuckin' mushies and swirls?!? Also explains the birth of religion rather neatly too, PolkaDot ;)

Mr Shambles there have been tons of studies concluding that EPA fish oil relieves depression. Some also that suggest it has a postitive effect on bi polar and schizophrenia. There were also several prison experiments showing that fish oil made prisoners less aggressive...

If you insist i'll pull them up for you but not now I'm off to my pit.

For anyone desperate to look at the evidence google mental health and EPA fish oil experiments.

Love, light and lampshades xx <3

P.S

MOP there is a church called The Union of The Plant in South America that uses a DMT tea in its services.
In 2006, the group won a U.S. Supreme Court case regarding its members’ use of the tea.

Moppy: It's quite widely accepted even amongst Christian academics that Revelation was the product of those fine, fine mushies that are virtually the only edible item to be had on Patmos so you can hardly blame ol' Divine John for getting somewhat... eccentric in his Nero-bashing really.

I'd definitely concur that a direct connection to the (peceived?) divine via the use of psyches is infinitely superior to rhetoric and dogma. Not to mention childrape.

PolkaDot: Didn't say there was no correlation between fish oils and certain behavioural issues - just that it certainly doesn't cure depression, shizophrenia and especially criminality. The review you quoted suggested the author considered it more or less the answer to solve all ills rather than just basic nutrition.

There are also prison experiments which show that painting cells pink massively reduces inmate-on-inmate aggression. And studies which show that LSD reduces recidivism rates by up to 75% or so (from memory). Promising stuff in both cases - much as with nutrition being a promising possibility for helping to alleviate certain Bad Things. You know what they say about extraordinary claims though...

Classic clip, PolkaDot <3

You seen the whole gig? Perfect demonstration of how to confuse, abuse, alienate and run comedic gold rings around a deeply confused and hostile audience <3

Such a shame he went when he did cos he was just getting interesting... <3

When did you fire off then MOP lol? Was it a cuntfest? :D

Um ..It just seems more chilled MOP. I prefer night to day actually. Maybe its just that I feel more chilled in the middle of the night.

Someone wound me up online once a few years ago and I threw the laptop down the stairs. Fucking stoopid.

I'm not proud of that either. Although its kinda retrospectively amusing. Its far cooler to stay cool. %)

Right chaps n lurkers I'm 'avin a snout* then off to bed.

*talking hard because im a laptop chucker.

That is why any release of any kind is important whatever it is.
Imo as long as it is not hurting anyone else who the fuck has the right to say it is wrong.

In my experiance my problems start when I'm A: told my release is wrong and there is a better way for me(which ends in disaster) B:Punished for maintaining a system of release because A has failed C: Find myself in a whole world of shit as my need for my perfectly harmless need for release has forced me to practice it underground and therefore in secret.

I hope I made sence there but if I didn't you wouldn't see the need for A anyway

yah I think I know what you mean me love.

The reason I'm staying up is because I had a really shit mentally dark mood yesterday. I suffered it until about 11.30 when I folded and took about 700mg of pregabalin. It filled me up with comfy niceness which was such a relief. I wanted to savour it because it really was a trying day. So its been nice to mooch gently about the house and have a peaceful chat. Tomorrows another day. I fucking hope it wont be such a battle.

What dont kill you makes you stronger though ay. It all builds muscle i spose.

I'm off to bed darlin' nn

I would like to edit this after a few replies. So please do not quote the post properly. Quote this.

I have an old friend in a very similar situation, excepct psychs and stims.

My wife tells me that if I really cared, I'd contact the Community Mental Health team, and tell them the honest situation, and they SHOULD visit him to make an assessment.

I really don't know though :(

For me if I had someone who was a serious harm to themselves and others, I'd take some action. Deciding where that harm line is drawn is the hard call. Suicidal, death-wishing, nearly causing accidental death, making decisions that damage them, causing ill health and injury to themselves - repeatedly, disregard for self and others wellbeing. The list goes on. If you're that concerned and asking here you're coming near the line.

Tough love.

I don't think mental health teams can do anything unless you are definitely a harm to yourself or others. Is there evidence of this?

In my very limited experience, not many people who get sectioned ever feel it is justified, and most feel betrayed - especially because it is so often someone who was close to them who had to make that horrible call. You know them better than I do though, they might be one of the really objective types who realises there is a problem and takes their medicine.

Most of the time people who have pushed themselves over the edge with drugs/life just need a break from drugs and stress to get better again. Is there any indication of what the underlying condition is? Or is it straight up psychosis?

What MSB said.

Someone close to me went through a similar situation. Sectioning them did them no good at all and there was no follow up from mental health. Haringey ftw. 8(

Someone would have to be dangerously criminally insane for me to even think about it.
