I had reservations about XBMCBuntu replacing the PS3 which now graces a forgetful epileptic's front room. But I'm pleased with the outcome.
I downloaded XBMCBuntu and installed it on an HP Compaq dc5750 PC. I put 4GB RAM, an NVidia low profile card with HDMI, and a Bluray drive in it. And a 1TB SATA HD.
I have access to ALL of 4OD, in far better quality than on my laptop or my original PS3 (sorry a.s.!) and ooodles more. With NO ADVERTS. My media collection, shared over NFS, plays without hiccup, glitch or other incident. Youtube is all there. And hunners of other shit. Documentary sites, al jazeera, blah blah blah.
My music library plays beautifully, gaplessly. I wasn't happy about having my TV on all the time to listen to music, but the screen-blanking feature means it's consuming minimal power. I.e. it's not getting hot.
It is a thing of goodness. I've got SuperMeatBoy playing on it with the my XBox 360 controller, and AndYetItMoves, though it takes a tweak or two. Happy to divulge for interested parties.
But the sound quality is the best bit; so much better than the output from my laptop with it's little digital singalong in the background. Silence means silence!
Haven't got Bluray disc working yet but it's in the pipeline; main thing is it plays all those BDRIP files without any problems at all.
Happy
