Yes Monstodole I still plan to use paracetamol from time to time. It synergies with opiates so I hear. That and I will be on 600mg gabapetin. Plus I can tweak Morphine dose, but I'm only going to if I need to. No fucking around.


I hope others on here start getting sorted! My GP listened and talked to me like a human being! She doesn't want me to suffer......

Im happy, but not for you guys<3

Yeah, I used to do a lot, like 2 or 3 hours a day - was training for the national championships when I almost broke my neck at practice and that's when I had to stop, sadly. Clearly that's what happens when a 15 year-old girl is made to train with full-grown men. I really miss it though, such a fantastic sport. Dyou ever do any too then? :)

Well it sounds like it's desperately needed chuck! It would be rather unethical to be left to deal with the pain you're going through without proper management! :X Grrrrr anger anger rwarrrr! lol ;)
Wow that is a lot! Plus, that's a tad irresponsible to have you training with fully-grown, and likely black-belt, men.
Still, you must have been good at it to end up in such a predicament! :D
What level did you get up to?

And nah I never did any Judo. I did a bit of Seido-Kan Karate when I was about 13 but didn't keep it up for long. Besides, Shoto-Kan sounds like a much more effective style (I've got a good mate who is very skilled in it).
But apparently, according to said mate - and a few others who took up other martial arts - I was naturally gifted with the thought and consequential actions for fighting. I'm just too spindly and weak these days to do anything about it. But you never know, it's the best form of exercise, mental discipline and physical discipline so I may take it up again someday :)

Jeeez yea hun, it was horrible - Waking up to find my right leg locked in place and having to straighten it out (that REALLY fucking hurt) and just lie there with a hot water bottle on it for 3 or 4 days, hobbling about :|
But it's not happened again so far (touch mahogany) and, like I said, I'm walking a lot so yea - Hope for the best!

That's grand mate :) (loving the Monstodole too =D)
Paracetamol does give added help, as do Ibuprofen and Aspirin, so get some of those (while checking possible nasty interactions) when things are harsh.
I really hope it helps you out and that you can get into your physiotherapy with added benefits :)
It's so hard to find a GP who listens and actually takes action on your problems instead of just seeing you as a drug-seeker. It's fucking rare these days, and I'm really fortunate to have some that listen and help accordingly.

100mg tram, 900mg gaba - still in a lot of pain. Sigh...
 
Tramdol doesn't do a thing for me, hope you get put on Codeine and at a higher dose than 100mg a day!

Hopefully with time your situation will improve.
 
Thanks yeah I'm seeing a neurologist next week so will have some more answers then hopefully. Codeine I don't find to do anything at all for this pain. Tram does take the edge off though when its bad although doesn't make much difference on its own, only in combo with other stuff.

This is so true, and it's not just pain but disability, which may or may not come with pain. Being unable to do stuff has a terrible effect on your state of mind.
 
Woopwoop! Finally got a phone call from the pain clinic. Am at the top of the list (at last) and just been given a date. Not a time though. I do hope it's not too early cos is fukkin miles away. Bloody fuck. Just looked it up and it really is fukkin miles away. Nearer Liverpool than me. Fukkit. Didn't realise it was such a trek. Better be a decent script at the end of said trek :!
 
Appears to be bus and train options. Train being 2-3h each way. Bus presumably longer. Will have to investigate. Seems to be a train that arrives at 8am or thereabouts so should be able to make even an early appointment. As long as I'm up to catch a 5.30am train :|

Woke up a short while ago and now my left leg is having it's "fun" 8(

I can't quite remember if it's as bad as last time, but it's just fucking annoying. Infact nah it's slightly less painful at present.

Got my Hot Water Bottle on it and changing position as often as I can (of my knee and the HWB), had a larger dose of Codeine than my usual script tells me to and had one of those 400mg Ibuprofen tabs.

Going to try walk into town later as I need to.

Meh :(
 
Long-awaited pain clinic appointment came and went and just got back. Mixed results really. Was strongly suggested I won't be getting owt exciting but did say he'd switch me to DHC and (I think) more than the equivalent codeine dose I'm currently getting. However, I'm gonna have to taper down from whatever I initially get to an "acceptable" level. He thinks I'm in pain because I'm too used to taking painkillers. Hyperanalgesia I think it was he said. Basically fried pain wiring from too much binge and purge with the codeine. Hence (hopefully) being given an initially bigger DHC script (so it lasts the whole month) but having to cut down more or less from the getgo. Was hard to be sure of exactly what he was meaning cos he was a bit vague but sounds like I might just about end up with a slightly better script. At least for a while.

He also wants me to see a specialist physio and get acupuncture and TENS treatment. Problem being I'd have to travel to Wrexham regularly to get it and at £42 return and six hours travel time that ain't gonna happen. Said he'll try to work something out.

On the plus side, he doesn't want me to taper/stop the diazepam in the near future. Said he was happy with the doses I'm prescribed, doesn't see it as especially worrisome and is probably quite helpful due to muscle relaxant properties. Am probably gonna have to lose the temazis though :(

He tried to suggest amitryptaline (and got (politely) told where he could stick 'em for his troubles) and various SNRIs - Duloxetine, Venflaxine or Mirtazapine. Said I'd rather not and he didn't push it any further.

Kinda disappointing but more or less what I was expecting really. It's a foot in the door anyway. Maybe having pins stuck in me will actually help. Even though they don't come attached to barrels full of opiates these days 8)
 
Aaah, well. At least it wasn't all bad I guess? DHC is already considerably more effective than codeine when it comes to pain IMO - and IME since I got switched to that recently as well - and you never know, acupuncture & TENS treatment could work. I've heard the TENS machines in particular have a very high success rate, so don't give up :) I hope you'll be able to work something out when it comes to the travelling & costs etc.
Anyway at least you're now a patient there and will hopefully be able to get more regular appointments and help. Good luck <3
 
No Gabapetin?

I've been put on the Pregabalin, which means dropping the Morphine, just for a little bit too see if Pregabalin on its own will work. Which I'm not too fussed about. As its what the Dr would like, and the Pregabalin seems to be alright. But I will need something for the breakthrough pain for sure. So next week I will let Dr know what I think.

She said she would rather me on one drug than two. And the pain clinic recommended Pregabalin if Gabapetin had bad reaction. So she is following the advise.

Luckily it seems to be OK. But deffo not good enough. But I'm still to up the dose.
 
He didin't mention pregabalin or gabapentin at all. Not that fussed really cos pregas did shit all for me other than make me a bit wobbly. Is mostly musclar pain I have so pregas and the like don't really do owt for it.

Pagey: Ya. Have heard good things about the TENS machine. It kinda depends on if I can actually get the treatment though. Will have to wait and see if they can find a way around the travelling issue. DHC is definitely an improvement. Minor improvement but not complaining really. Will see how whatever treatment combination occurs goes and take it from there.

He was a very nice bloke though. Very understanding about the problems caused by chronic pain and how much it can affect every aspect of life. Was a long appoinment and mostly just talking about my life in general up until now. Had to tell him about the opi abuse but he seemed fine with it. Was pleased that I'd not gone back to habitual use of strong opiates for so long when I have every reason to really. Didn't seem to concern him - in the past and all that. Wish standard doctors where as good as consultants. They just don't have the time I suppose.

Worth going anyway. Am not unhappy with the result and will certainly give it all a go. There's always the fallback option of going back on opioid maintanence if it really comes to it.
 
I too have heard good things about the TENS machine, Shambles. A friend of mine has a degenerative disc disease and takes strong painkillers (oxycodone, I believe) and uses a TENS when the pain get particularly nasty. Seems to work pretty well for him, as it's allowed him to continue to lead a relatively normal life for a good five years longer than the doctors estimated.
 
^Have you ever tried tetrazepam for the muscular pain? Obviously I'm sure it depends on the kind of pain you have but it works really well for my muscle tension, way better than other benzos. Could be worth mentioning to your doctor if you haven't :) plus since it's the weakest benzo and really doesn't have any recreational value compared to the other ones, it'll sound legit.
 
I've never come across it nor tried it, Pagey. Consultant said he was happy to keep me on diazepam for muscle relaxation for now so will save the swapsies suggestion until the day comes when they change their mind. I actually find diaz does work well to help with pain. Has certain fringe benefits too ;)

Consultant was actually quite insistent that I wasn't to taper/quit the diaz yet. Was rather surprised actually. I said that I'd rather taper the benzos than painkillers but he said he thought that would be a Bad Thing as I'm on such a low dose anyway (prescribed 10mg a day) and had been for so long (20-odd years now - only specifically for muscle relaxant properties this last ten though). It's prescribed for both muscle relaxation and also for anxiety - two birds, one benzo... Which makes it sound like some dodgy pr0n flick :D
