The Drugs and Music Mega Thread

Sigur Ros is prolly my favorite band; I can listen to their music under the influence of pretty much any chemical, and I love them enough that I have a Sigur Ros-related tattoo. It's a damn shame they are going on indefinite hiatus... :(

Cannabis enhances most types of music for me, but I absolutely CAN NOT listen to techno/trance when I'm high (I don't like it sober; but it gives me the fear if I'm too high) or tripping.

Opioids enhance mellow/prog-rock as well as folky music, jazz, and anything else relaxing with a good "flow" to it.

Pete Yorn (have you heard the duet album with Scarlett Johansson? it's interesting...)

Incubus (Aqueous Transmission: one of the best drug songs ever)

And, I'm not gonna lie, I find Lady GaGa music to be awesome to listen to when really high, and the music videos are crazy to watch tripping because she dresses like a nutjob. Still good. Make fun if you want... lol

listening to music on ketamine drives and directs my experience. if there's music on, it sets the mood, completely. I don't know how to explain it, I just get totally sucked in. for example, once I experimented by putting the 28 Days Later soundtrack on, my god, that was an INTENSE trip. rollercoaster of emotions, wondering if i'll make it out alive... damn, amazing!

on benzos, I crave the Dam Funk station on Pandora. I hate to admit that I'm a fan of combining coke and disco house, haha :/
I was introduced to the Mars Volta while on acid; pretty neat.
don't even get me started about rolling- if the music isn't completely out of my control (i.e., a dj at a party), I get super ADD and can't decide what I want to hear. it's pretty fucking annoying to me and everyone else. other than that, I'm not picky...

I have certain songs that hold a special place for me while listening to while high because they either intensified the experience or just were played at the right moment so i'll go from that angle:

LSD: the first half of the Cd 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts club Band' by The Beatles
DXM: James Holden- A Break in the Clouds
Ketamine: Bob Dylan- It's alright ma (i'm only bleeding) and Tiesto-Just Be
Ecstasy: Motorcycle- As the rush comes (Gabriel and Dresden Remix)
2ce: The Shulaman album 'In Search of a Meaningful Moment'
2cb: Shpongle- Divine Moments of truth
Mushrooms: Shpongle- My head feels like a frisbee
Salvia: Tool- Right in Two
Coke: Seeing Sound Tribe Sector 9 live

When i play guitar I think Marijuana and LSD especially, help the most with creativity and are fun to play on. Coke is alright to play on but it lasts so short and usually the playing abilities decline when the drug starts wearing off, which is frustrating. I have never played on amphetamines. Ecstasy is weird to play guitar on, because I can play pretty well but the concentration seems to take away all the euphoric aspects of the E and I don't feel i get to enjoy the experience much. Playing the Djembae on Ecstasy is amazing though.

Opiates always dull music and make it not interesting. DXM has a different effect on music everytime I use it, the first time music was so euphoric it was almost life changing. But as I used it more, music became somewhat distorted and distant. Marijuana has always made me love music, I can hear details not otherwise heard while sober. Shrooms make music too euphoric sometimes.

My favorite type of music while high is Trance. Always very calming and euphoric. Pink Floyd also rocks, as well as some nice classicaly music, such as Symphony No. 3 bu Gustav Mahler. The finale is just absolutely gorgeous.

I really only mess with psychedelics, i'm a big jamband guy of course (phish, the dead, cheese) but two of my all time favorites when on an intense trip are Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Animal Collective (namely the fireworks video).

Pink Floyd live At The Wall, man I love those marching hammers while tripping on Mescaline... <3

Also Michael Jackson live in Bucharest (The Dangerous Tour) with those green lasers (RIP MJ :()

-- Peace o/

I just listen to stuff that I like, and it sounds better. I don't listen to stuff that would typically go with any sort of high, but I still like it.

Burzum
Acid Bath
Arsis
Bethlehem
Tool
Nine Inch Nails
Destruction
Sodom
Decapitated
Depeche Mode
Immortal
Gorgoroth
Mayhem
Devourment

Just some stuff I like to listen to high or sober.

best taste yet, weird, I thought on a drug forum Sludge forum would be big for some ppl! :(

My tastes in music are diverse, to say the least. Here's some of the artists/bands on my "Top Rated" playlist on my iPod:

2Pac
All Shall Perish
Arsis
The Chemical Brothers
Cypress Hill
Dizzee Rascal
Eminem
The Faceless
Infected Mushroom
Insane Clown Posse
Iron Maiden
Lamb Of God
Metallica
Pantera
The Prodigy
Whitechapel

Meth and benzos are my two main drugs. When I'm on meth I prefer rap, death metal and metal. Hardcore stuff. When I'm on a large dose of benzos I prefer music that's more laid back, or more "artistic" like trance.

My favorite bands/musicians to listen to when I'm high are as follows:

Lydia
Bob Dylan
Tom Petty
The Beatles
The Velvet Underground
The Kills
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The Killers
Lou Reed
The Morning Of
Radiohead
The Postal Service
Queen

Best Drugs for Dark Psytrance

I've found that darkpsy, industrial trance, heavy dubstep, etc. can sometimes (but not always) be a little intense for something like LSD, but I personally think that dark theatrical trance often sounds epically good on dissociatives in particular. I'm curious whether other bluelighters share this opinion, and what other drugs people on the forum think mix well with dark psytrance music.

Thanks in advance for the input!

I'm not really a fan of darkpsy or industrial anything, but dirty dubstep and ketamine are a match made in heaven. I think k is particularly well suited to darker music because it doesn't leave me emotionally vulnerable the way traditional psychedelics do.

I remember hippy flipping to darkpsy at a festival in mexico. I think it was a pretty good mix. In fact, I think my favorite thing to listen to will on mdma is darkpsy.

This really doesn't belong in EMD, maybe I should send it over to PD. Not sure right now, i'll leave it open for a bit, thizz feel free to move it.

I find Mushrooms or LSD to be quite enjoyable with darkspy, particularly LSD due to the shear mechanical complexity of the music combined with the analytical thinking the LSD induce's. But i guess it doesn't mix well with everyone.

This. At least for that complex mechanical kind of darkpsy, maybe not so much for the more theatrical/horrory stuff... But even then, you just can't go wrong with lsd and music you love. <3

Dissociatives on the other hand never really did much for me in terms of music appreciation, the overwhelming distortion just becomes a tune of it's own. :D
