The Doof Thread

Yeah usually I would agree, but BOOM was an exception for me because besides the music they had so much going on from guest speakers such as the director of MAPS research, director of the spirit molecule documentary; both of which had Q&A sessions with the audience (in the most relaxed area, less then 50 people all laying down under a big tent)

Healing areas where they had daily yoga and meditation sessions, and it was quite spread out across the coast of a massive lake so there was never a huge concentration of people.

But that said it was the first big psychedelic festival I've been too, I haven't been to rainbow serpent or maetraya(sp?) in Aus.. I imagine it would leave some environmental footprint but what's interesting about boom to me is the heavy emphasis on everything been ecological, the toilets were cubicals that dropped down into a compost heap which was used for the vegetable gardens on-site and the generators for some of the stages were been run on vegetable oil. Bamboo was used extensively around the place also.

Don't know if I would do it again, it was an experience.. I do miss the smaller parties back in Perth though :P

wooooooow thats such a mad setup :D

Just got back from an 8 day, 30,000 people psychedelic festival in Portugal last month.. Which for me was the epitome of the scene, unreal!

As for back in Australia.. Beatings, Shotguns? The hell parties are you going too lol, sounds like fight club out there.. I guess it depends on the crew putting them on.. bit rough though.

lol dont get the wrong idea this was the first kind of agro i've seen at a doof. PLUR is the doofer motto :p :D those blokes had a good reason for getting kicked out n think they got off lucky for bringing that sort of attitude to a doof things could of turned out wayyyy worse for those mofo's. :)

^Is it going to be out in the wheatbelt again? I remember in recent years the small town coppers came down really hard on the doofers- searching every car and searching people left right and centre. Be very careful I would say.

oh yeah and i was misinformed about earth dance :( it IS ON but its not gonna be anywhere near perth so dont think i'll be able to make it.i need to get my shit together n get my licence :\

What's the best month for doofs in australia? I'm thinking of checking one out next year. Well, what I mean is, are there doofs every month? like ones that are mainly dark psy?

Each capital city would have at least one every month. Winter is a little slower in the colder climates but then in Queensland it is probably the best time. September/October and Jan/Feb/March are usually quite busy, particularly as Rainbow Serpent attracts a lot of international acts that often stick around and slowly travel around the country. Most long weekends/public holidays during the year will have a doof on also.

Crews come and go so it is hard to predict one year to the next. It might be quiet for a month then suddenly there are 4 or five in a row. Here in Queensland the next month or so is pretty much perfect weather of cool nights and warm days and there is at least 4 happening.

when its rainy n wet they cant really set up electrical equipment so in winter there is fuck all and it starts to pick up on the start of spring and it tends to get busyer n busyer as it gets dryer n dryer.i kinda like like the ones at the start of the season cus your cant still have fires during summer there can be fire bans witchs sucks ass fires make doofs!

will i see any bluelighters going to the doof on the 22nd???

edit: turns out to be earthdance!!! got the directions today :D

A bus makes sense, this sort of thing seems a bit harsh.
JS do you mean they have a permit to hold it and there will be a police presence?
When they used to have it at Fairbridge that was always the case but it was still awesome. I think it just depends on the purpose of the coppers being there.

Anything coming up in sydney area, like blue mountains or southern highlands?
