Social The Delphic Oracle - Know Thyself: P&S Social Ampitheatre of Doom

announcement - i'm back at work on my Confessions of a Weirdness Magnet project. for the longest time i was locked out of it, because i keyed it to a hotmail account then forgot the password, but today, because my peeps at Coincidence Control Central have a mission for me, i randomly tried and somehow got back in.

I went to see my niece today. She sure is growing up fast. She's lovely, but sooo sensitive and delicate.

I think I have enough in raising myself :). But my sister is a great mother and was born for this kind of thing.

Thought I'd bump this despite having little to say...

Well. I'm gonna try quitting tobacco again. I smoke about 5 rollies a day, could be worse, but it still worries me. This will sound superficial but its mainly my teeth that concern me, I spent a lot of money getting them repaired/whitened and was told to be careful about gum recession. I really don't want to lose my teeth, I had to get a few really damaged ones removed, cost me over 10k for root canals, etc. I also need to wear my mouth guard to bed more regularly, I grind like mad at night. Terrible design, teeth...

yea my teeth have taken quite the hit from coffee, tobacco other miscellaneous foods, beverages and substances. as i get older it bothers me less but still sucks- also never had 10k to spend on them. :(

why do you choose rollies? ive been planning on either quitting or switching to vape or possibly pipe. a lot of my favorite people from history smoked a pipe!!

Rollies are more flavoursome imo. I like the act of rolling... They are cheaper too. In Australia, a pack of 20 Marlboros cost over $20...

i thought $5 was high...when i started smoking a pack of marlboros was $3 now its about $10. i live with someone who smokes, i honestly can't remember the last time i spent my own $ on tobacco.

Oh thank goodness, P&S was getting a bit lonesome. I personally enjoy the act of smoking, but I HATE commercial cigarettes due to the chemicals. It isn't really a good idea to smoke cigarettes with 400 plus chemicals, and especially not at 15. So I like to smoke socially, and when I do, it's a Natural American Spirit.

I haven't thought about rollies, maybe that's a better option.
Largely, it is the chemicals in cigarettes that cause cancer. Just buy reputable organic tobacco and roll em.

I doubt you need to quit to keep your teeth okay, just cur back to say 3 instead of 5 and brush regularly. Whitening strips etc.

I hate waking up at 4 am.

*cough* no price discussion *cough*

Good luck quitting though.

Shit yeah, forgot about that. Oh well...;)

Thanks :)

I do it all, brush, floss, salt water rinse. Paid for whitening and structural support for my molars. Had to get 4 of them removed as they were raping my face. I guess I am vain because I don't mind all of this now that they are nice and white. I am vain I suppose. My teeth (sidenote, when I typed teeth then I, in Freudian fashion, intially wrote death) are/were fucked from a variety of things such as night time grinding but also malnutrition during my opiate/addict days. I used a fair bit of meth to during that which can't have helped. I have receding gums which is largely from smoking 'things', all my molars are essentially flat planes. Not that handy for chewing. Why we did not evolve focused cutting lasers instead of boney teeth I do not know. Each laser would have a retractable mirror to avoid sending the laser beams into your brain. You wouldn't even need to chew.

If laser beam teeth are impractical, why not digestive acid ducts in our mouths?

Having bad teeth is something that deeply bothers me. You would think that possible cancer, strokes, early death would be enough inspiration. Well, its not and never has been. :\ Smoking causes gum recession and that can cause your teeth to fall out. It is an irrational but potent fear of mine, I do what I can to offset it.

I hate waking up at 4 am.

Do you do this purposefully? I actually love getting up early, on a non-work day I will usually arise at about 5am. I like the idea that most humans around me are as close to dead as possible. :sus::p %)

I apologize for being a pedantic piece of shit, as always, but I can't help but notice this. What you're saying is largely untrue. Tobacco itself (organic, whatever) contains lots of different compounds (aka chemicals), which may or may not be carcinogenic. However, it is mostly the products of incomplete combustion that are harmful and carcinogenic. Nitrosamines and polycyclic aromatics among other things.

Industrial tobacco may contain additional nasty stuff, but who in their right mind would put as much shit into their product as possible? Besides, there are regulations in place as well.

I assume you're referring to the fear-mongering ads which show how cigarettes contain benzene, gasoline, rat poison, cyanide, arsenic, enriched uranium, ebola and AIDS among other things. Well, nobody would put "them" in there on purpose. Most of "it" is already there in tobacco. Of course it's a good thing if it stops you from smoking in general, because you shouldn't really be smoking at 15. But on the other hand, you shouldn't assume that organic tobacco is safe.

I love smoking aids. Ha.
I prefer smoking HIV, personally :)

Yeah, I noticed when I arrived here in Sweden how much cheaper smokes were in the stores. They are like between $5-10 per pack. Plus one can buy snus and e-cigs straight out of a tobacconist.

The freedom of choice here seems comparatively alive and well, which I find quite strange to say, considering Australia most often feels like one of the freest countries on the planet, in my opinion

Yeah, I hope to never smoke a cigarette again.

Joints are cool, though ;)

Tis organic tobacco really that bad? I was under the impression that the only thin wrong with natural is that tar still exists, as wll as carbon monoxide and nicotine (nicotine, oh nicotine).

Smoking tobacco isn't safe in any form, I just think if someone is to do it then organic is better. Keep in mind that I hate cigarettes with a purple passion. I love vaping, on the other hand.

Aww b_d, u aren't pedantic.

And willow, I enjoy it on weekends when I get rest, butvai'm aterrible insomniac and despite how much melatonin I take it doesn't seem to work as needed. I'm at 100 milligrams.

In Australia, you are free to do a very narrow range of whatever you'd like. :\
Yeah, the government does a good job of ruining our fun, for example, Casino Mike...

It is certainly the best country to be from, though, in my opinion.

There is nothing like returning to a lovely, hot beach with awesome waves to catch, followed by a shower in fresh water after spending some time abroad in neighbouring developing countries where one has to buy fresh water to drink and there are turds floating in the water.

Smoking tobacco is harmful whether it's organic or not. It's plant matter, and upon combustion it creates a lot of nasty stuff. You just can't get rid of that. Nicotine is, actually, not that harmful by itself, and I'm surprised at how even a lot of people in academia do not know that. There is something on the subject in the scientific literature if you're willing to search and read. Cannabis smoke appears to be slightly less harmful in this respect, even though it contains more tar. Tar is not the only player, those pesky reactive substances like nitrosamines are also important.

Also, there's been a few articles suggesting that vaping tobacco isn't safe either, because the liquids are poorly regulated and as a result manufacturers have put more nasty stuff in there than would be ideal.

Bottom line is, smoking is never going to be healthy, and vaping is a rather unexplored area right now. So if you want to use nicotine, I would stick to using snus and the like.

Could we extend that statement to read "Smoking is harmful whether it's organic or not"? I'm not sure the lungs are really designed to inhale any smoke. I know that mullein has been recommended as 'good' for you to smoke but I cannot believe that the by-product of setting something on fire is a good thing to inhale.

I wonder how bad smoking weed pipe resin is? I don't think I would ever do that again. I remember doing it about 4-5 years ago, I took a medium hit and seriously blew out smoke for what felt like hours afterwards. I did get stoned though, IIRC.
