The Deep thread

Really cool. Too bad intelligent drum & bass never got big in the 90s like liquid did in the late 2000s. Liquid does sound a little more commercial...

I think intelligent drum & bass was big in the mid-late 90s, but it was more 'coffee table music' than club music (i.e. 'trendy' people would have an LTJ Bukem CD on their coffee table, but would never actually go clubbing).

That said, Bukem has played in big clubs in London for years and years (he used to have a monthly residency at The End, until The End closed down). Shame on me for never having been to one of his nights!!!

Well since we started discussing intelligent drum & bass, I have to post this track:

PFM - The Western

This was probably one of the first D&B tracks I listened too, back in high school. Still one of my favorites. Perfect mix of ambient sounds, psychedelia and drum & bass.

Would love to hear more iD&B tracks not related to Good Looking Records!

That was awesome!!! - sounded like Shpongle making a drum & bass track. The vocal actually reminded me of this track:

A Guy Called Gerald - The Nile

As for non-Good Looking intelligent d&b tracks, definitely have a listen to some more Aural Imbalance, e.g.:

Aural Imbalance - Perfect Sense

Aural Imbalance - Proximity Alert

Aural Imbalance - Low Pressure

Portofino - Raymond Scott

I think I posted a remix of this song on another thread, but I found the original, and all I can say is... damn. If you want to ride a wave of beautiful sound back in time, listen to this.

Seriously, I wouldn't pass this up if I were you.

What's interesting about this track is that it's actually a part of a set of 3 LPs called "Soothing Sounds for Baby" composed in the 60's.

I reckon with those pure analog sounds i might just be able to make a sick drum n bass remix of this myself with a backdrop to some evil dope beats hahaha :) Portofino (zamo remix) here we come!

lulz
