The Cigarette Thread

^ Smoke and chew nicotine gum? Or smoke and chew Extra or something?

If the former, then you are getting an increased amount of nicotine and it could potentially make you sick.

If the latter, I don't see what difference it would make. I used to smoke and chew gum a lot when I was using MDMA, LSD, etc... and I never noticed any difference except in taste.

Cheers Mr Blonde, I was talking about the latter.

Just found this:

Chewing Gum opens all the pores in your mouth just as eating does to release saliva and help start the digestion process. So when you chew gum your mouth thinks its eating and opens the pores for saliva to be let out but at the same time let anything else in. So chewing gum and smoking at the same time highly increases your chances of not only getting tongue cancer but all forms of mouth cancer.

Patches give me itchy arms and bizzare dreams.

Chewing Gums give me heartburn-like feeling.

Those Minty lolly types suits me fine.

Just remembered something that might be usefull 'HR-wise' - if anyone out there really wants to quit - full stop, try reading The Easy Way To Stop Smoking, by Alan Carr. It didnt work for me obviously, BUT IT DID WORK for a few friends.
Its a no-nonsence, quit right now and never smoke another ciggaette cold-turkey and feel great about it style approach, that might work for some

Like i said though, you have to REALLY WANT to quit for that to work - but i kinda like the idea of gettting rid of them once and for all - withought having to spend money on some nicorette gum/patch/tampon/champix/hypnosis/ritualistic sacrifice or whatever would be the most rewarding way of going about it? Dunno everones different i suppose..

No bullshit, a collegue of mine has been hooked on nicorrete gum since quitting smokes for over 10 years now. That shit costs more than ciggies themselves!!
Well mabey, not these days..

Do you have a link for that source? I can see what they are getting at, but I'd like to see actuals studies done on any increase in risk given that smoking already greatly increases your risk of developing oral and throat cancers.

Besides which, I could just as simply argue that the vasoconstrictive and anorectic effects of nicotine would counter that dilation of 'pores' in the mouth.

I found the question i asked on Yahoo Answers, and the above was an answer that one of the users posted :\ I tried searching for studies done on the topic but nothing interesting came up.

Drinking alcohol is far more of a contributing factor as it changes the permeability of cell walls that allow the carcinogens to enter the cells and cause the tumour. Entering the saliva pores wouldn't make a difference in my opinion as it requires action within the nucleus to cause cell division.

Ive smoked for 14 years now. Always buy a different brand each time just to mix it up. A friend who is a flight attendant was getting me cartons of Marlborough Lights from Malaysia on the cheap. Anyone developed a sore throat from asian ciggies? Found them rough as guts and ended up giving them away. I delay my first ciggie until nightfall and wow what a way to end a day. That gorgeous nicotine rush will never grow old. Its a time to think and relax and go over the days events.

For those who have or are quitting, drinking and other drugs must make it harder to resist a smoke, right?

Like you, Mr. Blonde, I too usually start my day with two cigarettes and coffee (sometimes two coffees) in the morning, but I've been on Champix for a week and it really seems to be nullifying my desire to smoke. It's almost like some bizarre genie that is slowly stealing all of the pleasure from smoking - its action is indeed interesting.

As for things making it difficult to resist a smoke - yes, unfortunately all of the things I did with cigarettes make me want to smoke: with coffee, beer (been staying away), after food, after a joint (been staying away from other substances), waiting for transport/friends - whatever! Champix seems to make physical withdrawal much easier, but breaking the habit is still a real bitch.

I still love cigarettes, but it's like a really negative love for me, kind of like a childhood obsession that leads to a broken heart, or in this case, a diseased heart.

Twenty-five (for ten years) to three a day at the moment.

Man, I shouldn't have read this thread. Mmmmmmm cigarettes.

its so nice to finally see some austrulasian input on this topic...every single forum i seem to see is filled with americans raging about marlboro reds and djarum blacks or something similar....

i love port royal kentucky bourbon (the blue one) and JPS red's, which are the cheapest smoke currently availiable in new zealand. although i have to say if i have some extra money to spend or i just feel like a treat i always get peter stuyvesant red's.

I have to say it and a lot of people will be outraged, but i cant stand the flavour of marlboro reds. they taste too sweet for me tbh. I also cant handle Benson and hedges of any variety..i dont know why though. which just goes to show expense isn't indicative of quality hahah
.

They are kinda rough hey. They probably like it like that? Ive seen asian visitors at customs trying all they can to get their 3 month stay worth of cigarettes for cheap and cos they hate the usual displayed aussie brands

Smoking is good times for sure. On current medication I don't enjoy it, which is good I guess...but otherwise light me up.

I miss the smoke breaks, meeting interesting people who share the habit and relaxing after work with a beer. Drinking/smoking, coffee/smoking, sex/smoking combos were so good.

I started smoking after refusing to touch one for many years...even toked marijuana cigarettes before I tried a smoke.

Think I was about 16-17 when I started smoking packs of Benson and hedges gold? I think that's what they were called.

Moved to roll-your-own pretty quickly for the cash money savings, Peter Stuyvesant was first, came with a free leather pouch that I've still got around somewhere. For some reason these were known as 'homo ciggies' and avoided getting asked every 5 minutes to 'roll me one bruz' because of this reputation :D

Moved to Dr. Pat pouches eventually, after trying some off a friend.

Got tired of Dr. Pat so changed to Drum original. I remember my decision was party to the fact that it's cured/packaged in the Netherlands...was always hoping that somehow a nug would get packaged in by mistake. One time I found a massive bud of good weed in my pouch...was convinced it was from the Netherlands but now I figure I'd probably put it in there and forgotten about it.

Main kind I settled with was champion ruby (I swear we're long lost twins mr blonde) I won't turn my nose up at other kinds though, and always like trying something new.

Cigarettes remind me of my first proper girlfriend, and the awesome parties during the non-MDMA drought years.

Haha that's my tobacco memoirs :D...got lots of different tobacco related stories that are kind of entertaining but I'll give them a pass for now.

Anyone find it hard to smoke tailor made cigs after smoking rollies for a long time? They just taste a bit off to me these days and I find the throat hit isn't right.

^ I like going back to tailors every now and then, but amongst smokers I know I seem to be an exception.

I swear we're long lost twins mr blonde

Ha ha, maybe you and my brother got mixed up at the hospital, I always suspected he wasn't part of the family. ;)

I grew up hating smokes, use to 'accidently' bump into my dad at the footy to bump his dart out of his mouth then 'accidently' step on, until i finished high school and started my failed trade, the break isnt called smoko for no reason, id literally sit there with my sandwich look to my left and a mate is putting a dart in my mouth, and i was like, ey this aint too bad.

Just got back from thailand with 60 packs of Dunhill Blue, managed to handball the cartons around mates so customs didnt crack the sads. Cant say they are the greatest but for $15 a carton im not gunna argue.

Regularly im a Winnie Sky Blue man but when im out ive noticed when im pinging i actually feel like cigarettes are healthy for me lol, so smooth and delicious, is that normal?

Oh and i forgot to mention im a pe teacher haha, just a little bit hypocritical, telling the youth not to smoke then going for one.

I smoke champion golds which is pretty easy on the wallet since it will last me around two weeks

love smoking just when i get up on the porch and when the sun's setting before bed, especially with a beer/cold drink

Been smoking for only a year. I love them sometimes, hate them others but have at least a few a day. Only smoke rollies, tailored are so expensive!

^ From the limited reviews from people I know who have tried those inhaler sticks... they aren't so good. I haven't tried them though, and I like the gum whereas a lot of people seem to not like that.

They aren't so bad if you have a toke when you're really craving. Much better than the gum in my opinion.

As for the Gudang Garam's originating in Bali, my dad smokes a pack a day and they are nothing short of putrid. He has been a 30 year + smoker though and i guess thats how he gets his 'hit' as he steers far from any illicit drugs.

I smoke Champion Ruby Yellows by choice, but won't say no to a tailor when offered.

Being a joint smoker, i always prefer pouch tobacco to tailor tobacco as it burns slower and gives you a better 'mull' taste.

good topic mrb.
