The Cigarette Thread

I used to smoke quite a lot but only irregularly (intoxicated weekends) then during a trip i was smoking a tailor and i swear it felt like i could taste every single one of those chemicals that government advertisements like to tell me are in cigarettes. It's been over a year since I've had one now, but when I get high and mighty about it my friends remind me of my liking for 50/50 spin ratios ;)

So, I love nicotine when it's mixed with mary (and in fact would rather not smoke herb if there is no spin available) but i absolutely cannot stand cigarettes by themselves, i am probably the worst kind of hypocrite.

I actually prefer my nicotine fix when its mixed with buds and I smoke cigarettes.. :\ I also would rather not have a session if theres no spin

Been lovin the winnie blues lately...

LOL I practically don't smoke ciggies anymore because I get so much nicotine when smoking my weed, 50/50 spin ratio is a bit much for my liking though and I will still toke green on the occassion theres no ciggie to add.

Ciggies are mainly for out in public and shit for me but since discovering a fondness for joints as well as bongs recently I am smoking even less. I am definately one of those that would much rather get their nicotine fix right alongside their THC fix. :D

How can people not want to smoke choof just because of no baccy? That shits like crazy to me, I mean personally I find nothing wrong with weed on its own I just prefer to add tobacco, but even if you don't like it that seems a lot to me like not taking codeine coz CWE tastes like shit, or not shooting up heroin because you get a little sore spot on your arm. It is sometimes worth a little discomfort for a buzz in my view. Like in most cases you aren't taking the drugs to enjoy the ROA (although a fondness for ROA's does obviously develop) but to enjoy the effects, so a little unpleasantness in administering your drugs shouldn't be a great deterrant.

^^ yes but smoking greeners makes me cough my guts up like you wouldnt believe and the buzz generally puts me on my hole :p

plus the nicotine fixed from smokin a bong with spin in it is too good

I enjoy smoking most after I start feeling a CWE start hitting me or when I am drunk. I want to give the habit up but am struggling... I have considered talking to my GP but the last thing I need is more meds, but seriously reconsidering it...

I smoke Holiday or Winfield blues. I enjoy smoking... I find it good for my mental health, as it helps me to relax and settle down my thoughts. Unfortunately the New Zealand government are increasing tobacco taxes which is eventually gonna make it unaffordable for me. I think cigarette prices are due to increase by 20% in another couple of months.

I smoke Winfield Gold. I hear if they introduce this plain packaging the cigarette companies are going to retaliate by reducing the cost of cigarettes.

^ I hope they do! Fucken government... they'll miss their revenue from tobacco taxes once people can't afford to buy it any more!

^ I sure hope they do. :)

I'm a smoker, and a heavy one, and I know that the habit will probably have serious health consequences. Having said that, this plain packaging idea is ridiculous. I honestly don't think that the brand logo and colors are powerful enough that removing them will deter many people from smoking and will lead to even fewer numbers giving up on that basis.

I know that it's important to try and dissuade people from it and to offer services to those wanting to quit but the plain packaging is a step too far.

^ Whilst I have always thought that the packaging had little effect, market research must show otherwise or I doubt the cigarette companies would choose this of all times to take a stand. That said, these measures to "prevent" smoking are a joke.

I believe they don't want to stop smoking all together due to the tax revenue, but the aim is to reduce smoking while increasing the tax paid by die hard smokers who keep going. I reckon there is a good chance that down the line all tobacco products will be manufactured by the government because eventually it will reach a point where further taxation will cause a revenue loss via reduced smoking despite the tax hike and the only way to continue increasing their slice of the pie will be taking over the industry.

I'd like to see the research they based this policy decision on. I've been to one of those 'research groups' where we all sat around, looked at a bunch of cigarette packs and rated them and answered questions about whether they would appeal to a certain age or make you more likely to buy them, etc. I think it was being done for a tobacco company though.

Anyway, it was one thing looking at a pretty package and deciding if it appealed to me and actually being at the store and having to buy a pack. I used to smoke tailors, and my choice was based on a cigarette that I liked the strength and taste of that I could also afford. That said, I also think about my cigarettes a lot more then the average person does. ;)

Well the companies have poured millions of dollars, over decades, into establishing their brand image. Of course they're going to fight this tooth and nail after most of their advertising rights have also been abolished recently. An interesting topic for sure, I guess you'll hear very different opinions on it from a range of interested parties too; advertising firms with monetary backing from the big tobacco firms, or the AMA, government, cancer council etc?

The cynic in me also has to wonder about the governments motives, if the tobacco companies reduce prices the government will raise excises to match. The less people smoking the lower the health costs the government has to front too. *foil hat time* %)

Well, of course, that's not tin-foil hat stuff, that's plain common sense. The whole point of public health initiatives is to lessen the burden on the health system, a wholly noble and desirable objective.

Cigarettes are a love-hate relationship for me... I hate that I love them. I'm 18 and have been smoking for 5 years, trying to scrape the money together each day used to be a mission in itself at 14 lol...

I really wish I really really WANTED to stop but I just don't...
I smoke regal filters which are harsh but smooth at the same time, cost a shitload though... About 50 pounds a week while I only make about 120...

just ok. not something i'd go out of my way to smoke. they are inexpensive though.

i've been smoking heavily since my move, blondey sets a bad example, and champoion ruby at that so couldn't really gauge how good/bad of a blend they really are.
