The Cheatin' SEC (and USC)

Im actually all for College athletes getting a lil bit of a kick back....Shit the coaches and NCAA make millions upon millions off their work and name....There's video games out with them on the cover and they wont see a dime...

I have secretly thought the same thing for years. a lot of fans buy jerseys with the names of the most hardworking players on the team, and the players don't see a dime. while a part of me thinks that a little bling bling is the last thing some college athletes could use, at least it is what they deserve.

and Ohioans may actually despise Florida's program even more than Miamians. however, I wouldn't necessarily ever call them a "pussy program." pussy ex-QB, sure ;)

Basketball article, but still....

What's wrong with college basketball?
...
To get the answers, ESPN.com went to the sources. During the EYBL Peach Jam last week, we interviewed 20 high-profile head coaches, representing each of the six power conferences. With the promise of full anonymity, we asked them to tell the truth about their sport.

And they did.

...

Which league is the cleanest? The dirtiest?
Congratulations, Jim Delany. Your league wins in a landslide. Of the 20 coaches surveyed, 11 said the Big Ten was the cleanest in the country.

...

As for the dirtiest, despite Mike Slive's best efforts to clean up the image, the Southeastern Conference was perceived as the worst, with three coaches partnering the SEC with the Big East and another tossing in the Big 12 (one coach went league-by-league, counting up schools). All in all, the SEC was named by 14 of the coaches.

...

Do you have faith in the NCAA to monitor and control college basketball?
Sort of.

All but three coaches thought the NCAA was at least trying to get a handle on the problems of college basketball. The catch? No one thought it could succeed.

"They're trying,'' said one coach, echoing the sentiments of the majority. "But no matter what the rule, people are going to cheat and the problem is, the best of the best, you're never going to catch them.''

...

Where do u get all your top secret HS football insider knowledge? You some some super secret double recruiting agent or something?

You act like you and Randy Shannon are on a first name basis or something....

Anyways...As for who cheats and who doesnt....I believe CFB kinda works like this 'If you're not cheating, you're not really trying"

I know a guy who knows a guy. I'm actually privy to very little inside information and most of what I've posted comes straight from the mainstream media. Most of what I post is shit you should already know about your program.

The fact that I know so much about LSU and their boosters is a testament to how bad they are at doing this, and how I know that they are going down eventually. I don't know shit about Florida or Alabama paying any athletes to go to their schools, they may or may not but I really don't know about it. As far as I know they don't. Meyer and Saban are very smart, so if they were going to do it they would do it right. Les Miles is a fucking moron.

Do people just like to hate on SEC because its the South, and they hate the idea of the South pwning so hard? And really, if you live in Louisiana, football players are saints compared to the local elected officials. :/

meh, it's more that people hate teams and conferences that have talent and win. take it from me, besides Notre Dame, Ohio State might be the most hated football powerhouse in all of America. the college football psychological collective is so full of hatred - and that is why I enjoy college football so much, perhaps.

at least if fans hate your team you are doing something right (again, the exception is Notre Dame ;))

I think the words "infuriatingly good" and "Florida" are going to get a divorce for the next couple years. thankfully

At least you (and tOSU fans) will get to hear it two more times in the near future :D

Florida-tOSU Basketball rematch

Florida is due to release its 2010-11 schedule some time in August.

But one major non-conference game already has been announced. For the second straight season, Florida will face a Big Ten opponent in November. The Gators will host Ohio State on Nov. 16 at the O’Connell Center, a marquee matchup that will serve as part of ESPN’s 24 straight hours of college basketball coverage.

.....

As part of the contract, Florida will return play at Ohio State in 2011-12.

is FL's basketball program back on top? I thought they were struggling. OSU should have a good next couple seasons despite losing some talent. they have brought some big names in.

and congrats on your recent success. my thoughts above are more of a wish to the football gods, than a sure thing. at least it's a reasonable thought these days (the Gators football talent will be hard to replace)

Our football talent is just getting better - though that's after watching youtube vids by Gators for Gators hyping the incoming class....gets me pumped for the year after this one. This year? We'll see :\

Basketball.....I'm hoping to have a team that can be ranked 18-27 roughly ... at some parts of the year, and make it to the tournament. I just don't have all that much faith in Donovan since the Orlando Magic fiasco, since he seems to have had attrition every year for various reasons, and while he seems to be getting some decent players, there's never enough to really get a good nucleus going. :\ I'm hoping we can beat tOSU, but tbh I don't have a clue what talent Thad has these days.

throughout they years of Matta, I've realized he is sorta like the Ron Zook of college basketball. he gets the talent every year, and players want to play with him because they know they can put in two years of work and (regardless how good they are) they will at least attempt to go into the NFL draft.

however, his coaching abilities turns mediocre during the test of mettle aka March Madness :(

Also, I'm glad you've finally found a reason your team sucks compared to mine-- its because mine cheats and yours doesn't. 8(

Calling Georgia better than Miami? lol.

I really bumped your post to point out the double-edged sword that is cheating while recruiting (what I was alluding to with LSU and not connected with agents paying NFL-bound players, which serves no actual benefit to the school). For every kid that is enticed by the $30,000 or so dollars that a particular school puts on the table for them to come there, there is another who is disgusted by the practice. In fact, I would say the ratio is better than 50/50 in favor of the non-cheaters, but shitty parents and advisers are often the ones who put good kids into positions they otherwise would have refused.

However, most kids, regardless of their socioeconomic status, either get offended by the offer or are too afraid of the potential consequences. So no, not cheating is no excuse for Miami not having played up to Miami standards the past few years. You run your program how you want, with class and dignity (Miami under Shannon, Oklahoma under Stoops), or you run it with a ruthless disregard of the rules (LSU). Neither approach will actually lead to more winning than the other.

Fulmer Cup enters "Lightening Round" for remaining few days run off between UGA and MINN. Though, it appears UGA may pull this one out in the end. And only 2 yrs after Richt swears to tighten up on the program and get things going in the right direction.

I'm still looking into why FSU has 16* points :\

plus, they've mistabulated the points, and it turns out we're at 18, not seventeen, plus ealey just did a hit and run, so we're a clear winner. ;)
