The Big & Dandy Psilocybin Mushrooms Thread

cow farm shroom pickins

I live in NC and it's been raining here the last few days. Usually the weathers been 60 degrees to 100 degrees throughout the day and night. Right now it's fairly chilly outside and really damp from all the rain. I'm not sure what kind of conditions shrooms need, but was just throwing that out there so I can get some help. There's a cow farm not 5 minutes from my house and I was thinking about heading up there one night to do some "farming" of my own. From the weather patterns do you think it would be worth a shot to go check it out? Also, is there anything I should be worried about.. You know, other than an angry farmer with a shotgun? Are there any other type of mushrooms that would grow on cow poop that could kill me or seriously harm me? Any and all info appreciated, thanks.

Let's just say this.

You have a better chance of scoring active Psilocybin mushrooms on a cow pasture than you do anywhere else.

It still doesn't mean that every Mushroom you find will be active and/or safe. Which means you still will need to have them identified by Shroomery.org

If you don't have a camera, then don't bother.

Plus, don't you have to go through the whole process of drying them and stuff? I heard with fresh shrooms it takes a shit load of them to trip.

1 gram dry = about 10 grams fresh

Yes, but even so fresh shrooms have always been much more intense for me. Also you have to consider the fact that drying always destroys some of the active alkaloids from the shrooms (mainly psilocin).

Therefore, 30 grams fresh shrooms is equivalent to about 4-5 grams dry ones, depending on the drying method.

^ hey i live in NC too and yea its been raining a ton but ive never found magic mushrooms here even on farms. I think they are much much more prevalent in the new england or west coast areas. the carolina's jsut arent a good enviornment for many psiolocybe species. If you find anything though please post pictures id be really interested in any types of magic mushrooms that are farily widepsread in north carolina.

honestly its best to go out with someone who knows what theyre doing and knows what shruums to pick in ur area. Even tho I could tell you what a cubensis looks like and pick those in my area, it might not be the typical shroom in yours. you can find info on how to properly identify em tho, just look around, google man. Humidity plays one of the biggest factors with shroomin, and it cant be too cold either. Down here the farmers caught on and started putting this salt in the cows food to prevent fungi from growing, dont know how it is up there tho. peace man

Very true. The Gulf states being the main area. When I lived in Houston in the early 80's I had a process for shroom hunting. I'd wait until just after heavy rains and search the cow fields that were on farms owned by people I knew. But before I met some friendly willing farmers I'd take a dog leash with me out into the pastures. If I had been caught trespassing I'd say I let me dog off the leash when we were walking and then he took off. I'm so sorry for being on your property but I'm looking for him. But that only works BEFORE the baggie of fresh picked shrooms are in your hands. One time I found a shroom as big as the palm of my hand. Very big. Usually they are medium to small. And usually they are found on dried out cow pies and are hidden by grass.

^That's pretty ingenious lol

My question to you though is how successful were you in finding active ones, and separating them from the non-actives and poisonous? or you just "winged it"

^ I winged it. I was shown by someone who knew what they looked like and then went out on my own. I had lots of pictures too. Generally a white and golden shroom sticking out of a cow pie was what I was looking for. Some had the typical bluish bruises aslo. All seemed active. Very active. In fact one time I thought I had died but was really tripping hard. At that point they were the same thing in my mind. :)

A funny story, when my friend took me out to a pasture the first time we found about 100 beautiful mushrooms just behind some cows and bulls. As I went to approach the shrooms the other guy starts slapping a bull in the balls. He thought that was funny. Sort of like an alternative to cow tipping. So he's slapping the bull's balls and finally the bull had had enough and starts charging us. The guy screams "RUN" and he's laughing. I didn't have time to grab any of the shrooms and we ran and jumped back over the fence. This bull had smoke coming out of it's ears. Then I asked when can we go back and the guy tells me "dude, that bull is mad, we ain't getting those today". What a bummer I thought and then I cursed him for being an a-hole to the bull. Easy come easy go.

I do recommend positive ID before ingesting anything. Know what you are doing. Have someone who knows show you.

^General rule of thumb is if they bruise blue, they're good for you lol but that's not a positive ID method so, if you don't have someone who knows, or a way to do spore prints. Then Shroomery.org is your best bet.

Like mentioned though, Cow Pasture is where you're the most likely to find active Psilocybin Mushrooms.

Just ask this guy, he keeps a cow on hand all the time... did I mention he and his cow are Blue? ;)

Help with mangy-looking mushrooms

So me and a friend were suppose to take a mate out for a mushy trip for her birthday.

We bought the mushies last Tuesday, 6 days ago. They have since been stored in a plastic ice-cream container (doh!)

The mushies are starting to grow mycelium, and have also turned quite dark.
The most damaged mushies are quite moist - but not "gooey", but maybe that's just due to the fact they're quite crushed? They crumble quite easily in your fingers..

There are a few mushies which appear to be fine.

Anyway, we're cooking them up in a tea now, whether we drink it or not depends on what we find.

Cheers!

Are they fresh or dried mushrooms? I am assuming dried if they crumble easily.. Also, did you store it at room temp or in the fridge? If you stored it in the fridge that would explain why they've become moist.

Probably they're fine to use if you're making a tea. Perhaps do a few pulls and filter out the plant matter just in case. I find that most of the alkaloids dissolve after the third pull anyway. You can easily discard the solids after that and drink the 3 cups of tea. Your stomach will like it more this way also.

EDIT: Yeah they look a bit weird but not too worrysome IMO. I say go ahead and make the tea. Don't forget to report back how it goes, and have fun of course :)

Thanks for the reply!
They're not dry mushies.. And they were stored room temp just in a plastic container.
They container had a slight mist around it, like condensation?
Im aware it's not the healthiest environment to store them in, seeing as it contains gas emissions etc.
