The Big & Dandy 'Nausea and Psychedelics' Thread

Addiction should have nothing to do with physical dependence- since it seems largely unrelated to the habit and more to the substance.

How often were you using?

It's worth noting that Zofran is a 5HT1a antagonist (I think)

According to the PDSP, it has no 5-HT1a or 2A affinity, only 5-HT3 blockade. It's curious that it seems to potentiate psychedelics. Next time I use mescaline, I'll do the experiment myself.

i puke almost everytime i take a psychedelic. (whether it be MDMA, 2c-anything, or LSD)
I see it as a way of "expelling the demons" so to say.
Its a cleansing.

Once i puke im ready to go where the drug chooses to take me, and i do it with no nausea.

But if you're real scared of vomitinng maybe dramamine might help.

Everytime I eat 2ct7 i get extreme nausea and throw up, however 2ce is fantastic and I have never puked on it.

Likewise, even small doses of LSD (60-70mics) can make me vomit. I like to think of it as my body completely voiding itself of physical matter that will hold it back on the minds journey throught the stratosphere... Its quite a rush and an unbelievable relief when it happens. Nausea only really makes me anxious when it isn't going to result in vomiting ie. anxiety stomach.

5-HT3 antagonists and psychedelics

I usually get nauseas on the come up of all psychedelics. Recently a friend gave me a bottle of ondansetron to help me cope with opiate withdrawal (still don't know if it will work, I'm slowly weening myself and haven't had to be sick without opiates yet). I will still have some of these left and I was wondering if anybody has tried it. Does it affect the trip in any significant way other than combating nausea? Are there any contraindications with any psychedelics I should be aware of? Thank you.

you should read my post. haha. i will warn that it seems possible that it acts as a mild potentiator. Im not entirely sure of this, and i dont want to make any statements with assurance at this point, but go carefully with your psychedelic dose. there are otherwise no harmful interactions to speak of. the selective serotonin antagonists are some of the safest drugs known. there have been no reported interactions or side effects from trials or from clinical use.

I've had good luck with phenergan and metaclopramide for psychedelic nausea, but I have not tried with zofran so I cant really compare, yet...

It would make sense if it potentiated serotonin agonists/antagonists. Less binding to 5HT3 means more chemical left to bind to 5HT2A and whatever else is responsible for psychedelic action. Shouldn't be that dramatic, since most psychedelics have a stronger affinity for 5HT2A, but certainly noticeable.

I'm not a neuroscientist, but from what I understand of such things, that seems perfectly reasonable.

I know for a fact that Zofran in the U.S. is extremely expensive. I was given it in the hospital to overcome the nausea from all the Hydromorphone (2mg IV at a time with no tolerance) until I got a tolerance plus I was really sick. Right before they gave me an injection, of which I had already had several, the nurse told me they are over $50 an injection and I now have the $25,000 pharmacy bill to prove it, though there was a lot of other medicine I was on. She said that a lot of nurses swipe them to use when they are sick or hungover.

outside the US, they're probably less than 1/100 of the cost here.

How long do the effects of Zofran last for in your experience? Do you dose twice during a mescaline trip or just once?

Generic is available in the US.

Does anyone know if there is somethying comparative that I can get in Australia that has a similar function to Zofran? I use Chamomile tea and ginger but none are as effective as I like. I throw up on acid badly whenever I take > 3 tabs which is a shame.

mescaline addict, thats rich. I suppose its possible though on the same level a person can be addicted to anything including a spoon or fork. Most psychedelics have no physically addictive properties though, especially since tolerance increases so fast. Would u use mesc daily or was it like a once a month kinda thing?

Regarding psychedelic addiction, no one is trying to equate it to opiate addiction or anything. But I think a lot of people experience it... I sure have. It's just a state of mind where you use psychedelics more and more, as enhancers. You start thinking "hey, this would be even MORE cool on mescaline (or whatever)". it progresses to "I'm going to go hang out with friends, better take some mescaline to help me feel more social". And it might end up "I'm bored, let's take some mescaline so I can be excited". That's how it was for me (except with AMT and various phenethylamines). Tripping 4 or 5 days out of the week was not uncommon at one point for me. And at that point it's not full on tripping anymore but just a pleasurable and exciting drug effect, like taking speed or opiates, really, except without physical addiction and with more redeeming qualities to fool you into thinking you're not addicted.

Addiction is primarily mental, not physical. And I find that psychedelic addiction involves a good deal of self-denial, usually for quite an extended period of time, because it's not physical and because it feels so right. Psychedelic addiction is why I haven't tripped since the new year. I was starting to feel like I couldn't enjoy things fully without beiong on a psychedelic. If that's not addiction, I don't know what is.

I bought some ondansetron (generic) a while ago to try using as an antidote to psychedelic related nausea, but for some reason never got to trying it with my mushrooms.

Maybe because I had a strange effect after mixing it with pot. At some point, I would stop feeling my jaw. Not a numbing feeling, just a sudden feeling for a few seconds that I had no jaw, when I had my eyes closed. It was kinda uncomfortable and prevented me from relaxing (actually, just saying I "didn't feel my jaw" is a simplification of how it felt, it was hard to describe at the time, much harder after over a year). Anyway, I haven't used psychedelics in a long while, so maybe that's the real reason I didn't try this nausea antidote.

By the way, what was the dosage and method of administration used for the mescaline nausea?
