^^ Check out King Crimson! the album "In the Court of the Crimson King" and the album "Red" are some of the best. Robert Fripp and Bill Bruford are muscial geniuses. Listen to the last song on "Red" called "Starless" on LSD. The ending is so epic, it's orgasmic! I urge anyone who likes some of the classics to check those albums out.

Love king crimson and a lot of similar bands from that era, though this type of stuff can often get too weird for me lol

Ah but Shammy, you're British so your defualt psychedelic band is Hawkwind!

Complete with the lovely miss Stacia dancing ;)

I actually just read Lemmy's autobiography (White Line Fever) and I was always a Michael Moorcock fan growing up.

I just so happened to have taken a little bit of something I hope is what it was advertised as and do believe I am going to seek out some Hawkwind.

It's hard to believe I haven't already.

This may sound rather odd since the music is actually metal but if you havent listened to the band Neurosis I think you will be very pleasantly surprised. Its very slow melodic and atonal with heavy psychedelic influences. Very thought and image provoking.
They also have a side project called Tribes of Neurot that produces alot of dark ambient style music.

Together they have a joint release of two albums Neurosis Times of Grace and Tribes of Neurots Grace albums. Both albums are very good releases on their own but they are actually meant to be played simultaneously together. They combine perfectly to create essentially a whole new album.

The Eye of Every Storm is also a superb album to trip to. I would highly recommend checking them out.

Here are some personal faves for the traditional tryptamines...

GHOSTFACE KILLAH "Ironman" - The first GFK CD has a great flow from song to song, vivid imagery in abstract lyrics, and RZA's production with that trademark grimy psychedelic edge. In fact, I would recommend many of the albums produced by him.

SAINT VITUS "Born Too Late" - Old school doom metal with a heavy psychedelic edge, and great lyrics. This is the kind of CD I can just get lost in and appreciate so much more, just letting the mind melt into the guitar solos and such...

MASONNA "Inner Mind Mystique" - Form derived from chaos / beauty in chaos. 'Nuff said. Everything by Masonna is fitting. PLAY AT LOUDEST SETTING :)

VELVET UNDERGROUND "Loaded" & others - No description needed...

I recently had a fantastic LSA trip (I honestly cant beleive that people say HBWR aren't visual! They've obviously never had one of MY trips =D), the first trip i've actually sat down and actively listened to music. And it was fantastic.

Here were my favs from that trip:
Grateful Dead - I absolutely "get" the dead now, wonderful stuff
Sigur Ros
Animal Collective and Panda Bear
Akron/Family
Mumford & Sons

I think my next trip will involve some of my audiophile friends' equipment :)

Edit: almost forgot one of my favs: Andy McKee.
Check some of his stuff out on youtube, unbelievable guitarist

I listen to all the basic essentials on psychedelics, but so far nothing has beaten Shpongles new album "Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland" in terms of trippyness and "otherworldly" music. of course their other work is pretty good too!

taste differences aside, one word:
SHPONGLE

Ugh, no, we cannot put taste differences aside here. Shpongle sounds like crap to me when I'm tripping ad otherwise.

The same goes for the vast majority of flavorless electronic music I've heard.

I've heard a lot of Pink Floyd while tripping, I like the band but it's my friend who always has it playing in his car while I'm tripping. Occasionally I get flashbacks from listening to Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It makes me happy.

PS

I take a lot of psychedelics and I think Shpongle is garbage. No amount of acid could make me enjoy bad music.

Screamadelica by Primal Scream.

This album perfectly captures the essence of a psychedelic trip. Every songs compositional pieces timelessly mimic the peaks and valleys that one encounters during a trip. The lyrics are beyond mindblowing. Screamadelica is definitely a timeless psychedelic album.

If anyone's remotly interested in what I have to say here I know some amazingly good music for Psychedelic's; me and a friend tripped the other day on about 250mcg of acid each and this music pretty much made the trip, definatly worth looking up/blogspot.com trawling/downloading:

Pocahaunted Warmest Knives - Spotify
Sun Araw Horse Steppin' - YouTube
Sunwatcher

There were times where I forgot that music was playing atall and it simply merged with my body, brain and surroundings. This music is the best I've heard while tripping full stop.

Psychedelic music list

So, I'm thinking that I want to compile a list of wondrous psychedelic music, and see which ones I am most interested in. And... as most people seem to jump at opportunities to influence people with their favorite music, I figured I'd ask bluelight.

If you're feeling up to the task, enlighten me with the best of the best psychedelic music you can think of. Stuff that's just awesome. And if you're feeling extra peppy, add a youtube link with your favorite song of that particular artist.

i find that any Israeli trance can be very trippy..

Rebirth is a program that lets you play 1,000s of songs for free and each song is only like 25kb.. many, many of these .rbs songs are trippy! Rebirth is free because it was discontinued after years of service in the music industry - www.rebirthmuseum.com

MOD songs are another free source of VERY trippy music - they are 'modules' - they contain patterns (the score) and a set of samples (the instruments) - these songs are all free ranging between 50kb and 3mb or so - smaller than MP3, but they can be higher quality.. get the player at www.xmplay.com - and get mods at places like www.scene.org - www.modarchive.com - some of the links on this page are dead, but the ones that work are GREAT!! - http://www.goatrance.de/goacidia/goacidia/SOUNDS.html

www.traxinspace.com is another source of very cool music direct from the artists.. psychedelic/goa trance and acid included..

i was just listening to Electric Universe - anything by them is very psychedelic.. Scooter is an awesome european techno act into the psych vibe for sure.. Infected Mushroom, Shpongle, Antiloop, Ministry of Sound Trance Nation 2 i find to be trippy.. Astral Projection..

i make music myself - sometimes on psychedelics.. www.noahcohn.com
