if you've never tripped with the ozric tentacles, then you're missing out on something truly fantastic.

pink floyd always sets great moods and has so many great albums....i prefer david gilmours music more than roger waters

hell yeah! david was really the heart and soul of the band at their finest.

vibrasphere!

"lime structures" was amazing on shroom come-up.
it got a little too intense around the peak, and had to be turned all the way down, but those first 2 tracks or so will always have a piece of my heart.

beatles
dios
olivia tremor control
fiery furnaces [if I am in the mood to be goofy]
castanets
brian jonestown massacre
brian wilson/van dyke parks/beach boys
society of rockets

LOVE [I get chills just thinking about the LOVE]

Yeah, said, "It's alright, I won't forget all the times I've waited patiently for you, and you'll do just what you choose to do, and I will be alone again tonight with you..."

Yeah, I heard a funny thing - somebody said to me, "You know that I could be in love with almost everyone, I think that people are the greatest fun, and I will be alone again tonight with you..."

I die and live again every time I hear LOVE.

Martin Medeski Wood-Farmers Reserve Sounds really disjointed and wierd sober, tripping it becomes cohesive and melodic (or just sounds that way)

Mark Farina-Mushroom Jazz series

Any Orb

Sun Ra-Magic City as well as several others....

all my experiences seem to appreciate psytrance, so groups like shpongle, hallucinogen, younger brother, the alien project, the infinity project, and other TIP dj's work great. Also, grateful dead/dark star orchestra, disco biscuits, elemental harmonics, yonder mountain string band, and some other jam bands are great.

Like stated above, a lot of it depends on the setting and what i really feel like listening to. But mostly if there's intricate structure and real smooth flow in the music, I'll more than likely like it

I agree with alot of the OP's musical tastes. I listen to alot of Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Vibert, Boards of Canada, Shpongle, ect....

I also really like listening to D&B, like Photek, Teebee and Pendulum while tripping.

And never forget Primus and Mr. Bungle!

Basically if it fucks with my head and makes me feel confused and lost in my mind, I like it.

However if I feel like I need to be found or grounded a little bit, then it's time for some Pink Floyd.

If I can actually get into it, playing music on my bass guitar is amazing while tripping.

and/or Gangsta Rap

I usually hate gangster rap while I am tripping. However, once I was tripping and a friend of mine put Wu-Tang on, and it sounded fucking awesome!

Lightning Bolt
Zappa
Beatles
Ozric Tentacles (WOW insane)
daft punk
i lsten to tons of ska and punk, but not really while tripping.

Bad religion

one of the few "punk" bands I still like... but tripping? no thanks. Though I'd prefer it to "gangsta rap" any time.Thjat's some negative shit. In fact, whatever music gives me the creeps while straight doesn't do me much good when wired. Olivia Tremor Control... now there's good music :)

I dunno, seems to me this is a pointless thread. It's like asking the social question "what kind of music do you like?" ... ok, there's specific things I am more inclined to listen to when tripping and others less, but on the whole this thread is merely an enquiry into people's musical preferences.

I like to take the weirdest experimental albums off my shelf and check them out when tripping... often stuff I never really take the time to listen to when straight.

My music-while-tripping motto: "If I can't listen to it now, when can I..." ;)

Umm, drugculture?

But, Minimal Techno --- my blog with lots of links to DJ sets, tends to be what I listen to while tripping.

I also like ambient and soundscapes, stuff like Biospher, Pete Namlook, etc.

Which, also happens to be the music I love listening to while sober :)

and psychedelic era beatles are pretty fantastic when your trip gets mellower.

Oh man, loads of it. I'll name a few highlights I suppose. I also tend to go through stages, and a lot of my more recent trips (in the past few months) have been with no music, just listening to the music of the world. I've just gotten a lot of new, obscure CDs from a friend, so in the future I will probably be adding some new ones to my list. But anyway (this is in no particular order at all)...

For deep, closed-eye trips:
Shulman
The Avalaches (only heard "Since I Left You")
Shpongle (haven't been listening to much electronic lately, it's gotten redundant)
Infected Mushroom (same deal but even longer)
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Classical piano performances

For a happier, more energetic time:
Live Phish
Pink Floyd (some)
The Beatles (the effect their studio production work has is pretty magical and unique for sure)
Assorted classic rock selections
Assorted underground hip-hop
Blues!
Assorted jazz/funk (for example, Miles Davis Bitches Brew (the 4-disc full set), Herbie Hancock, etc)
Practically anything else

Don, I really need to find some My Morning Jacket because you seem so obsessed! ;)

Psy/Goa trance of all types...
as listed above, Shpongle is awesome.
Can't believe no one mentioned JUNO REACTOR.
Some other darker artists you might dig...
Naked Tourist
Scatterbrain
Psysex
