The Big & Dandy Music on Psychedelics Thread (Track #1)

tripping with psytrance is the best route for mixed groups as even people who don't normally like trance music can dig it tripping. i recommend:

pleiadians - family of light
pleiadians - i.f.o.
man with no name - teleportation
astral projection - another world

as for extreme metal, i listen to death and black metal as well as psytrance regularly and i agree with bickoma. death/black metal can quickly turn someones trip for the worst. i can dig it tripping because it's one of my fav music genres but for someone who isn't into it, it can be pure hell on pyschadelics.

though if you wanna test their girth, mortician - hacked up for BBQ or dark funeral's - diabolis interium will shake them up. tell them what doesnt kill them will only make them stronger!

i like Bob Marley while trippin on acid... also some Hard House is cool too but stuf thats less vocal... umm, some Hendrix is good, anything really.... try making your own music, thats always fun, one time we had a bunch of us in a bathroom on acid makin music, i was tapping spoons on the sink, another person was turnin the enigine of the hot tub on and off quickly, another person was squeezing a sponge saying, "squeeze, squeeze squeeze..." over and over, other people were just makin other noises, good tune it was... although not much sense of it all ahaaahahaa Triiiiiiiipin

^ sounds like a drum circle without the drums. thats always fun if you have a couple hand drums and hard objects around and sticks/silverware

as for listening i like john frusciante's solo work while tripping (he is guitar player for Red Hot CHili Peppers). very creative stuff. his first album Niandra LaDes and Usually Just A T-Shirt is probably my favorite.

trance/techno is always pretty good. i usually find vocals to be boring in that kind of music so i enjoy just some nice beats with trippy synth on top and what not. i guess this would be considered trip hop/ psy trance/ chillout / lounge music.

edit: and GRATEFUL DEAD! i couldnt imagine how anyone could have a bad trip while being guided by the dead. get some live extended jams like Cryptical Envelopment (Hundred Year Hall is a good version) or Dark Star. Now that i think about it Grateful Dead would probably be my number one suggestion for first time trip. if you are at all into classic rock/jam bands that would probably be the way to go.

Tool's "Lateralus" album, Opeth's "Damnation," old King Crimson ("In the Court of the Crimson King" through "Islands"), Enigma (especially the songs "Celtic Dream," "Voices in the Dark," and "Endless Quest"), any Pink Floyd (though I tend to love "A Momentary Lapse of Reason"), America's self titled album, a couple Moody Blues tunes including "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon," along with some selections of trance including Trance Control, Hallucinogen, and Infected Mushroom are my favorite tripping music selections. You should check out some of those.

I also like some of the Tribal Winds (Native American flute) music, classical piano and guitar music, and Soulfly's tribal instrumentals.

..And if I'm really having trouble getting into a positive mindset, Tom Petty has never done me wrong.

Mushroom trips are very earthy and organic, so I try to stick with some of the more natural music. However, most music that you get really into normally fits well into a mushroom trip.

Be careful if you choose to listen to Tool or Opeth, as many people can't handle their "dark side." Of course I also listen to more extreme metal selections such as Morbid Angel's "Domination" and Novembers Doom albums. Once in a while I'll get into Death, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, and some other thrash when I'm wanting to connect with past memories, but anymore I am on a quest to make new memories.

I know you asked about some specifics that you had already chosen, but I thought I would add some suggestions.

I listen to mainly dance music, but I hate music made for tripping like psytrance or Shpongle. It tries too hard, isn't even buzzy. Just listen to what you really like straight, and you'll love it :)

While tripping, I usually listen to Acid Mothers Temple, The Byrds, Skullflower, The Doors, Ghost, Growing, Sunn o))), Love, or King Crimson.

Thoses are my favorites too listen to also,CAT Again.=D especially. Some of those certain Dark Star tunes can really send a person out there and back again. Here is a site that has them all by the way>http://sugarmegs.org/dsu/dsu.html
There's also a couple of others I listen to;
By Pure Mescaline > psilocybin mix
By Celtic Cross > Hicksville
By DJ Morlack> Lucid Dreams
By Pink Floyd > The "Pulse" concert
And the list goes on >>>----->

What music do you like to trip with?

I understand there is great personal variation across peoples' favorite trip music, but I'm interested in any common themes that may exist, as well as material that people might explicitly recommend to others.

Almost all of my music has some sort of electronic background. I'm still trying to refine the best things to listen to during a psychedelic experience, but I'm a huge fan of Boards of Canada, and discovered The Future Sound of London on my last candyflip (LSD-biased influence on that trip). I also enjoy Autechre, Aphex Twin, Orbital, and more recently, some psytrance bands like Shpongle.

What music do you like to trip with? It would also be worthwhile to mention the primary chemicals you like to experiment with, and perhaps even specific types of music for different materials or classes.

interesting, i too like electronic background music when trippin. mainly drum n' bass. has somethin to do with futuristic, dark sounds, rollin bass lines that vibrate through the body. imo it also goes real well with tthe visuals of LSD.. well a decent to heavy dose of L to really get those visuals going... the fast tempo n' sounds seem to disturb your visual preception n' makes everything(visually) seem to breathe/morph/pattern/melt at a fast pace... at least ot me.

i like to trip with my guitar
i like music i want to hear when i want to hear it
i mean i dont have a "special" music for tripping
so i like good music, and good is define from what i feel like at that moment

but i know what i like to hear when i feel uncomfortable; baka forest people
its a recording from a tribe in the forest, you hear the bird, the insect and the tribe signing

intricate music that isn't too abrasive. Preferably music that has the ability to take you places. I listen to a lot of psy/ambient stuff lately so my tripping preferences coincide with that, but as a general rule of thumb I think any music that can suck you in without rubbing you the wrong way will do the trick.

specific albums: infected mushroom - classical mushroom or converting vegetarians (especially disc 2....so sexy), shpongle - nothing lasts, orbital - middle of nowhere. Too lazy to compile a full list.

also, a few months back I ate some decent shrooms and listened to Skylab #2 for the first time. Put it on right after Skylab #1 figuring it'd be more of the same good shit, but it was incredibly different and incredibly bizarre. It almost annoyed me at times, but for the most part I was just intensely amused by how fucking weird it was. Really complimented the night now that I think about it. Has anyone else heard Skylab?

qtf.

i would like to add, however, that i dont really listen to much electronic based music when tripping (rolling or candy/hippy flipping yes). im a hardcore dead fan, so often ill put on a show and walk in the forest or some silly crap like that

although almost anything that i usually listen to will do, i'm particularly fond of the beatles and pink floyd while trippin... and i agree with you tripmonkey, the wall can put you in a weird place

pink floyd always sets great moods and has so many great albums....i prefer david gilmours music more than roger waters
