The Big & Dandy Music on Psychedelics Thread (Track #1)

FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON! Seriously... maybe some 'Liquid' Jungle would be good (chilled and ambient subgenre), purely jungle though, not more up-to-date drum and bass. LTJ Bukem made some wicked tracks.

All great ideas Spllitz... FSOL's I.S.D.N. sounds really awesome tripping, very intricate hallucinogenic sounds - kinda shallow emotionally, but soooo beautiful to the ears, and when tripping your brain fills alot of depth and meaning in.

"Liquid" jungle stuff sounds awesome, and yea, LTJ Bukem is fantastic, great suggestion.

OH! I'll add to that: Luke Vilbert. He's also known as Wagon Christ, and I have VERY outstanding memories of the latter's "Throbbing Pouch" while tripping extremely hard. Search for several full tracks on YouTube

Nightmares On Wax - especially the "Smoker's Delight" album. This record has such a great great flow, and is so trippily laid back yet full of wonderful beats, I really cannot recommend it highly enough, especially letting the whole album play in order front to back, it'll take you on quite a voyage.

Here's some really sweet full tracks if you never heard this classic Trip Hop record (NOTE listen in HQ - 360p - mode for best sound)

NoW - Nights Interlude [Quincy Jones "Summer in the city" ]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ix5Pjob5jG8&feature=related

Now - Pipe's Honour (beautiful! 8:53)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLV3ruGp7f8&feature=related

NoW - Stars (very out there... superchilled)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PI_mQwCT0I&feature=related

NoW - Groove St. (Funky! quite intense)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj8EMXXk620&feature=related

NoW - Bless My Soul (REALLY GLORIOUS! Let it get going)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3OLlSaDDBk&feature=related

NoW - Rise
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObpXofD3Vn0&feature=related

This one from NoW's Carboot Soul album has such an intense "Everything's gonna be alright" vibe its just awesone, might be good to help calm someone down if anyone is freakin out on too much acid or shrooms:

Now - Fire in the Middle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0t8nvFUvqI&feature=related

Now - Ease Jimi (also from Carboot Sol, with some real funky horns)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEyktxOyWuQ&NR=1

lessee.. this leads us to Amon Tobin (early was known as Cujo)- lots of brilliant stuff.... check out his extensive writeup at Wikipedia:

search YouTube for plenty of full trax:

thanks!

so you like Jump Up too? I forgoten about Callide,it would be sin not to remeber him, real badman

Not yet but I suspect I will, hence the thanks. I'm familiar with DnB, but have not yet heard of this new genre (been sorta out of the loop lately)... I love the name, Jump Up... I am intrigued. Hows it compare to DnB?

I found the wiki page about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump-Up_(electronic_music) The term seems to apply to 3 or 4 different styles, popular anywhere from mid 90s to today. Hmm... thats a confusing article.

So... if you had to recommend 3 of the "best" current examples of this, that you like best? Any youtube links with a good modern example? What are "amens"?

Well, not sure if it seems like highly appropriate Trip music, more dancefloor music, so off topic anyway I guess.

I took two tabs of decent WoW a few days back and had a weird effect. When listening to music I could selectively slow down songs for a few seconds at a time. I was listening to Herbaliser, Method man "Tical", firt Gravediggaz and other shit. Dropped acid somewhere between 10 and 15 times before this, often in bigger doses, but never noticed this particular effect. It was like playing a record and holding one of my fingers on it to male it spin slightly slower and drag the tune out, if anyone ever did that.

Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Balún ~ Be Careful When You Walk

The Mars Volta.
Tool.
Simon Posford,
OTT
shpongle

i sometimes try to promote ego death, by playing the sadder more, ALIVE!!?!?!? kind of songs by TOOL
during the come up so by the time i'm on the verge of emotional collapse i can be filled back up again by tremendously beautiful trance.

The mars volta has an electric energy that seems to know to cascade forth and take you through new dimensions.

Air -Moon Safari

This album is IMO one of the great overlooked masterpieces of psychedelic music. I don't care much for the rest of their work, but this one is magical.
Air is excellent :)
You should try 10,000 Hz...

Obviously Psychill like Shpongle etc

Ghost
Sunn O)))
Boris
Keiji Haino
Arthur Brown & Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come
The Flashbulb
John Frusciante
John Petrucci
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble
King Crimson
Rodrigo Y Gabriela

Most psychedelic rock or ambient is great too.

Lots of good music in this thread.

Some of my regular tripping tunage-
Soul Position
Blackalicious
(older) Lyrics Born
Latyrx
Yes
Gong
Earth
Return to Forever
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Headhunters
Medeski Martin and Wood (especially if Scofield's involved)

And a special mention for Vince Guaraldi's "Linus and Lucy" because that song is my safety blanket during trips.

Edit-lol just read the very first post, guess this was just supposed to be techno, sorry OP, guess the thread evolved a little bit in the last 2 pages.

I don't get the Shpongle hype in the psychedelic community, at all. I actually like the native music traditions they borrow from to spice up their repetitive electronic tunes. But I rather listen to original throat singing from Tuva or wherever than Shpongle. It's sounds meaningless sober and some sort of auditory disneyland under the influence.

Beach Boys. Download Pet Sounds and Sounds of Summer and you are set.
Also, "SMiLE" by Brian Wilson, post-beach boys.

Michael Jackson is awesome.
"erection" by the faint is an awesome song for both rolling and tripping..
TV on the radio's "return to cookie mountain"

and last but not least, if you haven't heard of the band "YEASAYER", download their album "oddblood."
best album out this year.
