Do most people here agree that smoking the fumarate salt is fine or should one try to make the base?

I suspect that the risks of smoking the fumarate salt are likely overblown, especially if you nebulize instead of pyrolize. That said, freebasing is likely to be much more efficient and liable to produce way fewer combustion byproducts.
Smoking the fumarate salt out of a crack pipe is possible, but a lot of it is likely to get burned (which is likely not great for your health.) I tried it in ceramic coil vape pens several times long ago, and I didn't have great results. Freebasing it (or nebulizing it with a good vape juice, perhaps PEG400?) might be less potentially harmful as well as more efficient. All in all, it was underwhelming enough that I didn't keep chasing after it to try to optimize the experience. It always seemed like it was close to going somewhere incredible, but it never did.
