The Big & Dandy First-Time-Tripper Thread

1st time trippin on ur own

Ok, heres a little background info. Ive been battling chronic depression for years and am on prozac.
Im currently doing alot of cardio so am feeling pretty damn good.

Ive done ketamin, weed, solvents, heroin, bzp, speed, mdma, valium, coke, ghb and salvia (which I hated/ basically bcoz i didnt know who i was)

Now Ive never done acid or shrooms, but thinking of doing shrooms this year in the hope of finding my inner self a sorta spiritual quest in the hope of mental enlightenment.

Anyway this autumn when shrooms come out Im thinking of doing some, but on my own in my house mainly because im on tag at the moment and not allowed to leave my house after 7pm at night. N I cant have friends over.

My 'rents will be on holiday so its allglood ill be home alone.

Now being my first experience with shrooms isit a bad idea to do it on my own?
If so why?
I can imagine there wont be any paranoia because your not around anyone else so surely this must be a stress free environment.

ur thoughts plz

Tripping on your own is fine but you can get more introverted and go deeper into yourself instead of focussing on the outer world. People around you make you keep paying attention to the world around you which is called "grounding" you. If you are self assured then being assigned to yourself should be all right, it also depends on if you are a socially dependent or independent person, I am more than averagely happy being alone which is why I have no problem with tripping alone.
If you surround yourself with people though, make sure that they are either also tripping or at least experienced so they know what you are going through. It can be frustrating if someone doesn't understand at all. It's also hard if people are freaking around and asking way too much of your attention. Grounding you is fine at times but don't babysit childish / immature people during your first trip.
It is also nice if they don't 'ground' you all the time but leave you in peace so that you can trip deeper and explore the corners of your mind. Then when you have some difficulties they may help you by changing the setting (place) or music that is playing.

There is no conclusive answer to this, you'll have to figure out if you can get the appropriate type of people to be around at the time and/or if you think you are strong enough to face whatever bubbles up inside of you alone.

The first psychedelic I did was LSA (Hawaiian baby woodrose seeds), and I tripped alone (at least for the first few hours). The trip was relatively mild, but beforehand I was confident that I would be okay with it. I am a somewhat independent person, and usually when I trip with people I go off into a separate room for at least half an hour to enjoy the psychedelia in full force. I also really enjoy my life, even in the hard moments, I have this positive force in my mind which keeps me pretty happy 99% of the time.

That said, you should have at least someone you can call if things go sour. I've never had a bad/difficult trip, but I've talked to people who have, so you definitely want to have an escape option if you need it. I would say you should trip alone if you want the trip to be an introspective one. If you are currently satisfied with your life, I would go ahead and see what the mushrooms can do for you.

This is exactly why I can only trip by myself. Most people don't know what a psychedelic state is like so they treat you all weird. They also get offended when you want to leave for a bit to reflect a little.

OP, once you get comfortable with tripping by yourself you may end up finding it better than tripping with people. Of course if you have really cool people who also trip to trip with then I guess the situation is different.

Just go with it, realize there's nothing to fear, have faith in yourself, you now; all that kind of stuff that's impossible to communicate with language. ;)

If someone else stepped into my mind this level of feeling good for me could be the worst day of any 'normal' persons life. If ya get me?

When I took salvia I absoloutely hated it because it made me lose all awaraness of who i was and it felt a bit too weird. Same thing with ketamin really dont like the fact it makes you feel out of your body sorta thing.

However someone mentioned LSA and i have taken that before and apart from having uncontrollable laughter I didnt really hallucinate or anything.

I just want to know if what I invision shrooms are like is what its really like.

Im kinda hoping I will be in a meditation like state in terms of thinking and clarity and everything will feel really good and I will be able to reflect on my self. I am on the right wave length???????
 
I'm all for using psychedelics for introspection and spiritual explorations. It can be hard to focus on those things when you're tripping with other people, sometimes nearly impossible. In my experience, when other people are involved and have taken the same substance you have, it often becomes more of a group experience and it's hard to separate yourself from it. While the group tripping experience can be absolutely wonderful and every bit as fruitful as a solo one, it's probably not going to result in the kind of experience you're looking for.

having said that, I'd highly advise against dosing completely alone for your first time, especially in your circumstance. Any psychedelic is unpredictable, even for people who are experienced with them and a lot of bad trips happen because somebody who is distressed doesn't have anybody to talk to. If you're set on being alone for the trip, you could have a friend (sober or otherwise, although a sober person is usually better able to handle a situation should one arise) that is nearby in case you need them but will otherwise stay out of your way. Why is it that you can't have friends over?
It's definitely not safe to assume that the lack of other people will result in a paranoia-free environment. Paranoia can be triggered by just about anything. The best way to ensure a stress-free trip is to make sure you're comfortable with your surroundings, have taken reasonable measures to ensure your own safety and peace of mind during the trip, and are in a good mindset beforehand.
But since a bad trip is never one hundred percent avoidable, and you don't know how you personally will react to mushrooms, I would be concerned about the possibility of you temporarily losing rationality and leaving your house after 7. This would, I assume, prompt the cops to show up; definitely a situation to avoid at all costs.

Needless to say, experiences with any substance, shrooms included, vary greatly for different people, different situations, and different samples of the same substances.

The fact that you didn't have any visuals with LSA doesn't necessarily mean you won't with shrooms, but it could. As i'm sure you're aware, describing the effects of a psychedelic to somebody who has never tried it is incredibly difficult. When I took psilocybin mushrooms (I assume you're referring to these and not a different kind of mushroom?) I had an amazing time. I was with two close friends and I could not stop laughing. Lights were somewhat colorful and I could see rainbow-like mist in places like the bathtub and ceiling. Doorways and other objects would appear disproportionately big or small. It was a really lighthearted experience for me, but a very bizzare one. I was too busy laughing to even think about introspection, which is one of the downfalls of tripping with others. If I were to do it again with that goal in mind, I would definitely pick a place where I could be outside if I wanted to. Shrooms felt very strange and foreign and visually crazy when I was inside, but somewhat mystical, wonderful, and almost natural when I was outside. Whatever you decide, I think it'd be a good idea to try shrooms once to become familiar with them before you decide to tackle a deeper level of understanding.

As a final note, I will say that I felt like I was experiencing increased awareness and clarity on shrooms. A lot of things just made perfect sense to me, particularly relationships. I wish I would have written down more than just a few silly quotes from the night.
 
If you have experimented with salvia (a horrible drug under most circumstances), you will love LSD or mushrooms. No worries man.
 
I wouldn't do shrooms for your solo first trip. Don't get me wrong, I love mushrooms, but they have a tendency to be unpredictable. Sometimes you can get stuck in a thought loop that can be very hard to get out of. And you won't necessarily get mental enlightenment, just a shitty negative trip. Of course, shrooms could also give you the most meaningful trip of your life...

If you do go with shrooms, try and taking a smaller dose.

I would suggest looking into LSA again. A lot of people dismiss it as LSD lite or something, but that's all BS. With the right dose, LSA can be just a psychedelic/enlightening/euphoric/empathic as LSD or mushrooms. Sure you tend to get less visuals on LSAs, but visuals are only the tip of the iceberg IMO. Especially considering that you are looking for an enlightening trip. Did you take MG seeds or HBW seeds for your LSA trip?

Another good benefit of LSA is that it's very easy to get. Something that you can't say about LSD and mushrooms (for the average person, not PD heads).
 
I started with mushrooms. Very introspective, yet not a hallucinogen which I can maintain a sober appearance in society. I can do anything on LSD. Even mescaline is workable.

Psychedelic use is not altogether easy, but you always come out of the experience a wiser person since your mind has gone to places it would not have if you had not dosed. <3

I definitely agree. Visuals can add a lot to any kind of experience, but they can also distract from the mental aspects of a trip. An inexperienced person dosing on shrooms is more likely to spend more time looking at the pretty colours than searching for enlightenment. Not that there's anything bad in this--I actually think that forcing an agenda on your first experience with a particular psychedelic would subtract from the sense of wonder and excitement that a first-time experience tends to have.
 
it's waaaaaaaay more fun to trip with a good friend or good friends (allways trip in pairs 2 4 6 etc...) so when you're into a deep conversation with someone no one is left out, everyone has someone to talk to...

especially because of your depression i recommend you

A: Trip with at least 1 very good friend
B: Have benzos or neuroleptics handy in case you bad trip (also i've heard chocolate makes you come down from shrooms but this could be myth, best be sure with the others)
C: Trip at home (somewhere familiar)
D: Take half a dose, you can allways redose an hour later
E: Be sure you're in a good mood at the time, the time must be right... if it feels off, then delay your trip to another date!

p.s. what shrooms are you getting? liberty caps (the ones thaat grow in the wild in the UK) or mexicans or hawaians? cause you got to get the dose right.. also its normal to vomit when you take shrooms so don't get worried about that, better out than in
 
First point of note: there's tripping, then there's tripping alone.
Second point of note: there's tripping, then there's your first trip.

I'll let you make your own decision here, but essentially when it comes to PDs the rule is generally as so: If you feel you are prepared and comfortable then you are ready. If you feel apprehensive or worried, then you are not yet ready.

Don't forget to prepare an environment before you start tripping. Think about whether you might want music to listen to, pictures to engross yourself in, things to sit/lie on, etc. first. Trying to do "useful things" whilst on PDs is just a bad idea.

If you want to enter a meditative state, you'd best be able to do it sober first. While you might "zone out" during your trip, without any experience holding a meditative state you'll likely simply snap out of it, kind of like when you notice you're dreaming and wake up as a result.
 
^ There's apprehensive and worried and then there's conscientious about what you're about to do, and wanting to do it right. I'll let bighooter be the judge of his feelings.

With a history of depression, I wouldn't say that mushrooms will make you depressed but it is likely that the reasons for it will surface in your mind and you can have a chance to confront them and process things that have been bothering you subconsiously for who knows how long. It's also possible that you will just giggle your hiney off. Mushrooms have the capacity to show you the whole spectrum of human emotion.
The first time I did mushrooms, it was like a fairytale madhouse fun fair... I had little to no control over the experience. And the first couple of times (actually quite a lot) on mushrooms things like thought loops were definitely among the effects. I personally would not take more than 2 grams (Thats for psilocybe cubensis, dried - the standard for dosing if there ever was one) the first time.
Be prepared for just about anything, you don't have to be scared! But psychedelics, and mushrooms certainly, are just... a lot / intense qualitatively. It magnifies every sight sound and second, making it a real adventure. Life has its ups and downs, so do mushroom trips only it goes much faster and the ups and downs are higher and lower.
My advice also is to get someone as a backup guide, phatass has a point. Though phatass... chocolate won't make you stop tripping, if anything it will potentiate it a tiny bit - I believe. Something sweet to eat can be helpful. Sugar is not necessarily an antidote for psilocybin but I have come to believe there are subtle reasons why it is comforting, which I will not go into right now.

I can definitely relate to this. My inexperienced friends usually goof around, do silly things and say stuff like "wow, you're so out there" while in fact me and my tripping buddies are sitting there, taking in and analysing every imaginable aspect of their behaviour and being very very very there in general.

On topic I would say listen to yourself, however hard that may be, and try to find out if loneliness is something you appreciate in itself - i.e. not just as a momentary contrast to social situations. If you tend to be uncomfortable around yourself, I'd advice you to trip with some very close friends if possible. It's not just about avoiding "bad trips" but also about utilizing the psychedelic potential to the fullest, IMO. Some people just aren't very introverted and don't experience mental growth from navel gazing.
 
decided im not going to trip on shrooms or acid for that matter.

Because I smoked some weed yesterday and tbh it made me think too much about everything and how fcuked up this world is.
I don't need that if anything I wish I was ignorant to everything in some ways.

I dont smoke weed often once or twice a year sorta thing. But its a powerful drug tbh. So god knows what i'd be like on shrooms.

After the first hour or 2 of intense paranoia and feeling like crap (for being a man with no job, no career, no high status in society etc) I finally relaxed and was nice n mellow then had an amazing sleep and woke up feeling good.

I think weed is my limit anything else would just mess me up.

I'm one of them. Psychedelic's are very smooth for me.. whereas marijuana will shred my mind into a million piece's, the paranoia is unbelievable.
 
Hey, bighooter, do you think it is funny to have a picture of some sick fuck who devastated my campus, shooting my fellow classmates in a building that I had classes in? It doesn't seem like you are a very happy person, maybe that's why you can think something like this is funny or something, but I just wanted to let you know, that every time I see your avatar, it makes me think back to that day, with ambulances flying down the streets and police officers with automatic weapons combing the campus, and all the blood on the sidewalks from the injured running out of the building. Your avatar sucks.
