The Big & Dandy First-Time-Tripper Thread

Well there are pro's and cons to reading trip reports. It gives you a picture of what to expect of course, and the more you read the better you can estimate what the scope of possible results is: if all goes extremely well you can have certain magical and special experiences but the worst case scenario can mean ending up in a police station or hospital (this is just an example true for perhaps some substances in some situations). Reports can keep you from making mistakes others have made before you. The same goes for reading threads on a forum, but the upside to that is that often it gets less specific.
The downside to reading trip reports is that you risk experiencing similar themes that others have just because it is suggestive. It can hold you back because if you are waiting for something to happen that you read about it can keep you from discovering original themes and experiences. Actually, I think the best experiences are a result of going in with a mind free from expectation and no will to steer it. Just letting it happen as you go along and having a sense of wonder because it's all so new to you.
Probably the best thing to do is read enough so that you won't get any unpleasant surprises but don't read so much that there isn't much surprise left. Even so, you can read as much as you want about some substances and it could never prepare you for what will happen (e.g. DMT).
Try to pick up not what to expect but how to handle certain substances and take certain stories seriously like salvia being very strong even though it is legal. If you aren't ready for being blown into oblivion, take that as a lesson. But after that, try to forget every detail you have read about and realize that the exact content of a trip will come from your own mind so there are not clearcut rules about your experience being followed. That is the wisest way to learn by the way: after each lesson, integrate it and then let it not occupy your mind anymore to prevent believing in too static truths.

that's what I was trying to say

Cool, I'm sure I noticed that!

By the way, whatever you do I think it's impossible to prevent something negative from ever happening. You can't make tripping foolproof - everyone should realize previously unimagined things can and will present themselves eventually. It comes with the territory and I wouldn't have it any other way. Not celebrating harm here though, but the reality is its called harm reduction and not harm elimination.

If you want predictable, go to McDonalds.

synesthesia and eating

soo... i'm planning my first acid(edit) trip (whenever the heck that's gonna be) and i was wondering how synesthesia with eating is? should i buy some skittles or jelly belly beans so that i have a plethora of different flavors to try?

Well if its your first trip I recomend excercising caution, to achieve synesthesia you usualy would need to take a little more of the drug in question that is recomended for a beginner.

heh, fun stuff.

tobacco's taste WAS the COLOR of sand, and SOUNDED like the word Kaasthmuuth

it can get pretty crazy. pancakes and syrup alllllll over the place.

go wild man.

Gets some real nice dark chocolate...some oranges....and a bunch of other random delicious foods that make you feel good
A nice hot chilli pepper is crazy...I had one that I had grown a couple days ago while tripping, that was a crazy experience

Shrooming for the first time

taking half an eight with my bf tonight after work :]

any suggestions on fun things we should do?
what should i expect?

!!

Expect craziness and amd fits of giggling!
I dunno if your time will be as crazy as mine, because of dosage.

But expect fun! Lots and lots of it. Dont do anything too major, like drive cross country. Walk through a field or simple stuff like that.

Enjoy

Make sure no one sober is in the room with u and also have music and fruit juices or water near hand. If u get bored being in one place then go outside in nature its awesome:) Have fun:)

First time on Cid - avoiding a bad trip

Bumped into a guy that is selling tabs around my area and thought it would be a good opportunity to try a drug that Iv always been interested in doing.

I smoke a fair bit of weed and have taken E a few times too. Both went well. I dont have a problem with being under the influence its just that when I think of LSD, I instantly think of the abillity to have really bad trips. Alot of this comes from my mum who has taken LSD in the past and told me of her experiences. She is quite lenient on drugs and not one to spread lies or propoganda either.

Im planning on taking a tab with two of my friends, maybe someone that wont be on anything as well. I was just looking for some tips to ensure that neither myself or my firends have a bad trip. Is there anything we can do?

Thanks

As long as you mind set & setting, you should have a good time. There is plenty of information out there on how to have a good time on psychedelics, you might want to check out Erowid and read some trip reports. Also, you might want to check the big & dandy first time tripper thread.

Good luck and have a wonderful first trip <3

Well if you take enough, your probably going to have to go through the introspection on the comeup.
But if you manage to allow it to pass by and pay attention as just an observer, about 3-4 hours in you will be happy you did.
Dont get attached to your personality flaws when they arise, we all have 'em. That much is universal.

Recept has it covered really (thanks Recept :)) as there is plenty of information, suggestions and advice in the those threads which should cover much of what you want to know - well worth a read through. On that basis I'll move your question over to join them. Happy tripping :)
