The Big and Dandy Basic Mescaline/Cactus Questions Thread (Archive 3-19-07 - 4-12-08)

^If you want the worst tasting 'hash cake' ever you could try it. There are a bunch of recipes for cooking with San Pedro out there, if you'd care to look (google). I'd rather cook pollution myself.

i'm planning on buying a trichocereus cacti, either bridgesii, peruvianus, or pachanoi. I live in Nebraska, it gets pretty cold up here, so which of those strains is the most hardy? Also, if you have had experience with any two or all of those which do you think has a stronger mescaline content? I don't have enough money to buy lamps so would it just work if i just brought it in in the winter time and put it on a windowsill? do they really give that bad of nausea and vomiting? is it as worse as hawaiian baby woodrose?

Freezing pachanoi

I read about a recipe for San Pedro that involved de-spining the cactus and freezing it. This seems like a quick and easy method.

However, how long should I freeze the cactus for? I'd hate to be such a noob, but I may be able to get some Pedro, and I seriously want to do this right if I can do it.

Thanks :)

if it fully freezes in your freezer, this is enough time. once it's frozen, nothing more is happening (didnt read the post, assuming you're talking about freezing to break the cell walls down). on another related note: if you freeze and thaw multiple times, this strengthens the effect you're looking for (breaking more cell walls, that is.. not the effect of the mescaline).

personally i tried that method , if it's the one listed on erowid. i didnt get any effects from my cactus at all that time. i dont know if it was the method or what. these days i just grind up the entire cactus, freeze, thaw, and boil for 3-4 hours, adding water. this breaks down a lot of the slime and makes the stuff drinkable.

Ah! Thank you very much. What has been your success rate with that method?

that was my first time ever using the cactus, so it might have been weak and i might have just not done it right.

with the boiling method - i probably had success 40 times with it. out of maybe 65 total times. the other times i used gelcaps and powder

Oh. Hell, that's good enough for me.

Also, did you dry the cactus and then grind it? I'm assuming you put a live cutting in the blender and froze that.

And one other question: if I was to dry the Pedro, could I dry it in the microwave or an oven? Something tells me I shouldn't, but then again I don't have too much time to be drying cacti. I was trying to get the whole process over with in a few hours.

Thanks for your help Newmoon :D

this is the method i used, except i froze the entire cactus first. (put a cutting into the freezer). sometimes it was dried (shipped and ordered dried), in which case i proceeded directly to boiling.

drying doesnt really matter unless you're trying to gelcap it, which ends up sucking usually. drying is good for storage though. but if you plan to consume, just boil the hell out of the shit.

i also keep cactus tea for months in the freezer. i would *not* trust a refrigerator for more than a day.

have fun with your first cactus trip (if it's your first). it's the best psychedelic out there, in my opinion.

Trichocereus bridgesii

i'm planning on buying one pretty soon. basically i'm worried about the nausea/vomiting... i recently took some hawaiian baby woodrose and puked my ass off with mild to moderate nausea.how do the woodrose compare to cacti? do cacti produce more nausea? is the experience still worth it even though theres nausea?

^^ that sucks now i'm not too sure,,does everybody get nausea and/or vomit on cacti? the mescaline trip really must be worth if i wanna do it cuz feeling sick fucking sucks.

I hear ya on the sickness. A decent extraction that doesn't require ingesting large amounts of plant matter would probably help a bit.

^ are you talking about concentrating it by boiling it down, or are you talking about a mescaline extraction....please show me a link on how to do it.

I haven't tried mescaline yet, but in PIHKAL Shulgin writes that even with non-extracted, lab created mescaline people get the exact same nausea. It's the mescaline and not the plant matter, although that probably doesn't help. He notes, though, that if you spread your dose out over about 30 minutes you still get the same effect by bypass most all of the nausea.

Hope it helps.

Perfect! Thank you very much! :D I can't wait to try this.
Peace :)

That is the only reason i have not tried a cacti yet...anticipation of the nausea! Admittedly the anticipation is probably worse than the vomiting itself, but for some reason it's a major turn off for me.

I have puked off of high doses of mushrooms so I am never really afraid of the purge, the first tiem I ever puked was on shrooms and all I remember saying was "Woah look at the colors"..... of course I ahd taken 7g of mushrooms and was tripping out of my gord... shouldnt have had that taco bell before the shrooms

the anticipation is a LOT worse than the actual event. i always used to be afraid of the purge, but , after my first experience with the immense feeling of relief and cosmic "lightening" of the load that comes with puking, i quickly decided it was something to be welcomed.

seriously. I think your body releases a lot of endorphins after you puke, because I usually feel this extreme glow, and the nausea and body load usually evaporates.
