The Big and Dandy Basic LSD (acid) Questions Thread (First archived 10-31-07)

Merged in a thread about acid and nausea. I don't believe LSD- the chemical- causes nausea (in the sense the mescaline or ayahuasca do), but the ensuing emotional rollercoaster can cause a nervous stomach, which can lead to vomiting. Usually, if you've kept your stomach relatively empty, but well hydrated, you should just vomit water.

I get slight nausea almost every time with mushrooms, in fact I get nausea with almost every psychedelic, except for LSD and DOx. The only way those can make me nauseaus is if the visuals are so intense that I get motion sickness from them.

Smoking weed helps a great deal to prevent or alleviate nausea, but as said earlier, it can greatly intensify the trip and add to anxiety, confusion, and paranoia.

i have a silly question. i asked a good friend of mine that used to do acid sometimes what it was like, he simply said "it's confusing", nothing else to it. another person i asked said it makes him really happy and stuff, but he's a fucking mental case as it is.

is the acid experience ultimately just confusion? it seems as if it would be, i saw someone on it once too and they were just talking utter rubbish that was incoherent, acid to me seems as if it would just be weird and confusing, would i be right in assuming that?

^ Acid experience has potential to be confusing but so does any psychedelic. I personally find mushrooms way more confusing, but then again I've never really done very high doses of LSD. At lower doses, I find it rather euphoric and fun when used in a social setting, but when I do it alone, it tends to get very introspective and analytic. I generally don't find it very confusing at all unless marijuana is added into the equation.

Acid is usually extremely clear, unless you add other drugs of course. But you can get confused if you try to figure something out :)

Some people get confused by psychedelics, and some people find that they become much less confused about a lot of things. it depends on how you take it and what you get out of it.

ok thanks. another question; would a low dose (half a blotter probz) be bearable in a social situation, bear in mind it'd be my first time.

There's no consistency in terms of dosage vs. amount of paper with acid. Half a hit of one kind could equal ten hits of another.
For your first time especially (for me, anytime) do not be around sober people. They will really bring you down. Being in public isn't necessarily that bad, but trying to understand the logic of a typical sober person will only make you frustrated

ok i see.

and well, if half the blotter i decide to take is equal to 10 hits, i'll be glad i only took half.

half a blotter would be seen as a low dose, wouldn't it? obviously there's no way to judge, but if you want a low dose you take a small amount don't you.

I wouldn't recommend trying psychedelics for the first time in a social situation, unless you're with close friends who are also tripping or at least know and are comfortable with you tripping. "Half a blotter" is no indication of a "safe" dosage in any case, always remember that set & setting are VERY important (much more so than you probably realize before you start tripping).

Edit: half a blotter is probably a safe startup dosage, but make sure to take it in a controlled setting.

Hey, im a big fan of lsd, and i have had quite a few trips in my day. Anyway most of my friends are convinced of the legends that about if you do it 7 times it will make you go crazy, blah blah blah. And one is even convinced that it makes your brain bleed into your spinal cord. Now i understand the effects from reading this and erowid and whatnot, and i really just want to stop getting crap from them for me doing lsd. If i show them a site like erowid or Lycaeum they will just say that it is a hippie website which is too partial to drugs. Does anyone have some medical papers/ "reputable source"s that say the truth about the physical effects of lsd? And i know that this has been asked before, and sorry i couldn't find it.

sorry, i just hate when people try to tell me what im doing is killing my brain, when i know its not. I'm aware of the risks, i just hate it when people create false ones.

If you're gonna take acid just know that trauma can happen. Don't expect it, obviously. But don't expect something even remotely light-hearted. When I first took acid, I was told that it was nothing but a flight of fancy, a silly little light show. I ended up having probably the worst experience I will ever have in my life. But I've taken acid a bunch of times since and those trips were magnificent and wonderful.
if you flow with it it will blow your mind and your life will continue on a much, much more grand scope - that is worth the risks I believe, but only if you are relatively clear of major psychological issues

There's a huge coverage at the erowid's LSD fault, check out all those links (both on-site and off). I'd say you don't have to prove anything to people who are stupid enough to believe those ridiculous rumours, what truly matters is what you believe yourself. If you still insist on proving anything to them, just read up as much as you can on LSD, you'll find plenty of arguments against those stupid myths.

you're right, i think ill just continue to take their shit. It just really bothers me when there is something that can do so much good for the world that is taken and turned into a devil. I mean your brain bleeding into your spinal cord? i mean really, WTF?

^ Unfortunately, that's the world we live in right now. Politics is the name of the game that invented this "war on drugs" that still has a huge impact on the members of western society today, which in turn provides continuos food for political agenda. It is a sad thing for all of us who know and love psychedelics, but I don't see things changing any time soon.

Just laugh wisely to yourself when asked these baffling and bizarre questions- your not alone, I cop it alll the time from wizzed up smackheads...

how quickly (roughly) will a sheet of geltabs lose potency if they are stored in tinfoil(still kinda summery out so it gets to 70 degrees F. outside.)

I'm not looking for an answer of.. your gels will be useless in 6 days 14 hours and 12 minutes... unless someone can give me one...

I'm looking for more of an answer like: you should be good they're gone within a week. or you should get those to the freezer asap.

thanks.

^ It's hard to estimate how quickly they lose potency, but my guess is it will lose some if not kept cool enough (LSD is sensitive to heat so can degrade if not kept in the fridge). Since you have it isolated from light and air (LSD is very sensitive to those as well), I'd say it's relatively safe, but to ensure maximum potency, I'd move them into the freezer if I were you.
