My favorite would be Klonopin(clonazepam) followed by Xanax(alprazolam). Never really had valium, it isn't a very popular benzo scripted up here in Canada. Only had it a few times from friends who ordered online.

For panic attacks, xanax is definitely the way to go. A bar will put most people's hard panic attacks to a halt.

If you've got general anxiety though, and just sweat, get really nervous and shake and stuff, then i'd say klonopin or valium. They both calm you well down, last longer than xanax, and in my opinion, make you less sleepy.

shit! i was jsut about to say that exact thing and you jumped in and said it for me! nice man, you know whats going on.
peace

Best Benzo

Definitely klonopin (clonazepam generic). I've tried xanax and it zonked me completely. Didn't like the feeling. Ativan is good, but short-lasting and easier to abuse due to it's short-life span. Valium did nothing for my anxiety, except make me want to sleep.

Been on clonazepam off and on for fifteen years and it is the only one that really works for the anxiety and panic for several hours and doesn't make you particularly drowsy, unless you take too many, of course. I take 1 mg 2x a day and sometimes 2mg once a day, depending on the anxiety level and it just takes care of the anxiety so I can forget about it and do what I need to do. I have only needed to increase once, from 0.5 to 1.0 so my tolerance hasn't really built up. It can be abused but if it is used for anxiety and not recreation, it is a wonderful drug. I couldn't go into crowds without being completely held hostage by my anxiety until I was prescribed this.

This is just my experience. Other opinions may vary.

Good luck:)

god how i wish i could get xanax for breakthrough. but i cant ask, im already being handed 6 mg kpin a day, 75 8 mg subs a month, and 90 lyricas. so theres no way hed be willing to add anything else.....
except, i want to cut back on my benzo use, and i think i could do that by instead of having a 2 mg kpin mid day, if i jsut had a short acting like xanax then i wouldnt even mind if it was a smaller dose than 2 beacsue ive noticed that other benzos are still effective, whil kpin isnt. i mean it works, but nothing like the relief i felt the other day after taking a bar instead of my kpin. but yeah whatever. id say kpin, xanax, and valium are teh THREE ESSENTIAL benzos. kpin for methadone like benzo qualities. xanax for breakthrough and panic attacks, and valium for tapering off. thats all you need.

The combo that works best for me is 10-15mg of Diazepam(Valium) once daily for generalized anxiety disorder. Then I take 2mg of Lorazepam(Ativan) for an intense panic attack, I find the sedating effects to calm me down more than Alprazolam(Xanax).

Does anyone else find that sedating benzos are better for anxiety?

Ativan sublingual is perfect for acute anxiety (when an attack comes on) because it's so fast acting and works really well. But a longer acting benzo like valium or klonopin could also be useful for easing underlying anxiety.

that makes me wonder. what about switching from kpin 2 mg 3 x day to kpin mg 2 x day, and lorazepam 2mg once a day. that would drop my benzo use by one 10 mg valium equiv, but i think that the incomplete cross tolerance would make up for that and the ativan works so fast so i could take it the second i start to feel bad and wont have to wiat 2 hours for relief?
peace

well, lorazepam has a pretty short half-life, and won't tide you over the course of the day, so yeah, keep taking the kpin's. But if you're finding you still get acute anxiety, then lorazepam is really a good option. Pretty much no wait time; you put .5 or 1mg under your tongue and within 5min (tops!) the anxiety melts away. Great for immediate relief. :)

imma try and talk my doc into some. ill just ask for a few, like 15 2s or something for "just in case " you know. by the way i honestly dont abuse benzos.

thanks for the advice guys, i think i may decide between ativan or xanax for breakthrough anxiety, i also have GAD(generalized anxiety disorder), but im only being treated for panic disorder. i may talk to him about managing GAD too, since its kind of unhealthy for me. Hes put me on Remeron, lithium, and seroquel for generalized anxiety, but they dont do crap exept make me twitch ann get restless leg syndrome......well, wish me luck on my docs appointment on friday, and again, thanks for the advice! i could still use more though!
peace n love-

Ativan is a lot more disabling than Xanax. Xanax is great if you need to be clear minded or productive for something, such as taking it in the middle of work. Ativan slows you down more and is good if you need to chill out for awhile. I find the effects of Ativan closer to alcohol.

I like Ativan more, but is rarer, more expensive and not as strong as Xanax.

For me clonazepam dosn't take that long to kick in. I put 1mg under my toungue, let it dissolve and about 15-30 minutes later i'm feeling nice and relaxed. But then again it doesn't last all day, maybe for 6-8 hours.

Yeah but that combo I talked about earlier, clonazepam and alprazolam/lorazepam should work great in your case (GAD and panic disorder).

Ive found clonazepam to be the best benzo for preventing panic attacks and stopping anxiety. Ive been on it 2 years and it still works great for me. It helps anxiety better then any other benzo ive tried and it isn't sedating either.

I never got any use out of xanax because that is one benzo ive always hated it does fuck all for my anxiety. I don't feel ativan at all even at doses of 8mg's. If i have breakthrough anxiety i just put a clonazepam under my tongue and that kicks in pretty fast. But i rarely get any breakthrough anxiety unless i miss a dose or 2 of clonazepam or have too much caffeine.

Lithium for anxiety? WTF? Thats only used for bipolar disorder not anxiety it isn't even used off label for anxiety at all i don't think. That doesn't make any sense. Atleast remeron is used off label for anxiety and so is seroquel although i don't think seroquel works too great from what ive heard. Ive been on both remeron and seroquel (for bipolar not anxiety) and neither seemed to have any real effect on my anxiety levels.

I think that you'd want something short acting and more anxiolytic than hypnotic. Ativan and Alprazolam are the obvious choices. Whichever will work most effectively with the least amount of cloudiness and drowsiness is a matter of your personal neurochemistry. I don't think that a regimen of daily, long-acting benzodiazapines is appropriate for most people.
