Grandmother writhing in pain, do not know what to do. She has an aversion to ER's and doesn't want to "miss work" tomorrow, but she is literally all curled up and crying. My grandfather is soon to be home, but I am just worried. I have seen her in migraine pain, so I can judge she is in a ton of pain, which she says is "all over". She has been complaining of transient lower back pain, abdominal pain, pain in the urinary tract, pain when making bowel movements for the last few months, as well as muscle tension and migraines as usual. The doctors say maybe kidneys, maybe this maybe that. I just don't know, and am really concerned. On top of all these maladies and this acute state, she is a benzo and barb addict, although that would be the last thing on earth she would admit. She has also been using tramadol recently for these pains. Today she seemed really out of whack earlier, fell alseep quickly (I presume), and when I came home she was in a very deep sleep. When I did rouse her she didn't awake startled like she normally does, she seemed rather stuporous in fact. Sometimes I can see the effects of her drug use, but today she was in a really odd state for her. There was amnesia, astasia-abasia, and signifcant ptosis. She has "perked up" a little, but again really bad pain has set in, and her mood is more labile than usual. What the fuck is wrong with her? I am seriously concerned with her barb addiction (Fiorinal), and have a feeling she took just too much of her meds today or whatever, but then why is she in so much pain? Is the ER even a good idea? I just need to get some feedback on what might be the cause, I know we're not doctors here, but I just want to know if you have any guesses as to what this might be?
