A 24-year-old Ashgrove man will appear in court to face charges of drug trafficking and possession of 10,000 ecstasy tablets, caught in a four month long operation between Queensland and New South Wales police.
The arrest follows a four month long operation between State Crime Operations Command’s State Drug Investigation Unit and New South Wales Police Force focusing on cross border drug supply.
Detectives intercepted the man driving north along the Pacific Highway on Saturday, November 17 and allegedly located dangerous drugs and drug related items in the vehicle. Approximately 10,000 pills were seized with an estimated street value of $350,000.
Further investigations were conducted which resulted in police executing a search warrant at an Ashgrove address that evening resulting in additional dangerous drugs and drug related items being found and seized.
Detective Superintendent Brian Wilkins from State Crime Operations Command said it was extremely pleasing to be able to stop the distribution of these drugs.
“Seizures of this magnitude make a huge dent in the distribution and supply of drugs such as ecstasy.
“We continue to urge the public to come forward with any information they have about the production, distribution and supply of drugs,” Detective Superintendent Wilkins said.
The man is expected to appearing again in Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 19.
Also related to this investigation, police arrested a 20-year-old man after intercepting a car on the M1 at Merrimac on September 28. It is alleged 5000 MDMA tablets were located in the car.
New South Wales police arrested a 25-year-old man in Brunswick Heads while a 31-year-old man was arrested in a carpark at Byron Bay.
