A 24-year-old Ashgrove man will appear in court to face charges of drug trafficking and possession of 10,000 ecstasy tablets, caught in a four month long operation between Queensland and New South Wales police.

The arrest follows a four month long operation between State Crime Operations Command’s State Drug Investigation Unit and New South Wales Police Force focusing on cross border drug supply.

Detectives intercepted the man driving north along the Pacific Highway on Saturday, November 17 and allegedly located dangerous drugs and drug related items in the vehicle. Approximately 10,000 pills were seized with an estimated street value of $350,000.

Further investigations were conducted which resulted in police executing a search warrant at an Ashgrove address that evening resulting in additional dangerous drugs and drug related items being found and seized.

Detective Superintendent Brian Wilkins from State Crime Operations Command said it was extremely pleasing to be able to stop the distribution of these drugs.

“Seizures of this magnitude make a huge dent in the distribution and supply of drugs such as ecstasy.

“We continue to urge the public to come forward with any information they have about the production, distribution and supply of drugs,” Detective Superintendent Wilkins said.

The man is expected to appearing again in Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 19.

Also related to this investigation, police arrested a 20-year-old man after intercepting a car on the M1 at Merrimac on September 28. It is alleged 5000 MDMA tablets were located in the car.

New South Wales police arrested a 25-year-old man in Brunswick Heads while a 31-year-old man was arrested in a carpark at Byron Bay.

Pair jailed over $300,000 ecstasy haul
ANDREW DOWDELL, COURT REPORTER
November 29, 2007 01:35pm

TWO ADELAIDE men have been jailed over a major ecstasy haul worth up to $300,000, after being arrested in an undercover police operation.

Joseph Carbone, 25, and Salvatore Lupoi, 32, were arrested in December 2005, after an ongoing covert police operation.

Carbone and Lupoi were found with more than 11,000 ecstasy tablets and $24,000 in cash when their car was pulled over by undercover police.

Lupoi had earlier handed over the ecstasy to Carbone, unaware they were being watched by officers.

District Court judge David Lovell said the ecstasy had a potential street value of between $200,000 and $300,000.

Judge Lovell said Carbone had turned to using drugs months before the raid, after breaking his wrist in a work accident.

"You ran up debts for the drugs that you used and to pay off those debts you fell for the lure of making easy money," Judge Lovell said.

"It appears that your first few steps into criminal conduct were very large ones."

He jailed Carbone for six years with a non parole period of three years and two months.

Judge Lovell said while Lupoi had played a lesser role in the ecstasy deal, he had also been found in possession of cannabis worth up to $26,000 and methamphetamine worth up to $80,000 when police searched his Rostrevor home.

He said Lupoi had been a hard-worker and an "inspiration" for a friend who became a quadriplegic after a car accident in 2001.

"That speaks volumes for your character," Judge Lovell said.

But he said the drug offending was well organised and jailed Lupoi for seven years.

He will be eligible for parole after serving three years and eight months.

Carbone's former girlfriend, Rochelle Kemp, was given a suspended three-and-a-half year prison term.

Judge Lovell said 20-year-old Kemp was "naive and impressionable.`'

"I accept that you were swept off your feet by an older man ... and that you were trying to impress Mr Carbone."

Kemp must also perform 200 hours of community service.

A man tells a court he wanted to clean his game figurines with a liquid which it is also alleged can be used to make illegal drugs.

* Map: Wayville 5034

A man charged with importing an ingredient that can be used to make the drug fantasy claims he bought it to remove the paint from game figurines.

The commonwealth prosecutor has argued that the man could have used household products, such as nail polish remover, instead.

A court has been told that Andrew Michael Page ordered 700 milligrams of 'Magiclean' from a United Kingdom-based website last year.

It contained gamma-butyrolactone, the main ingredient of the illegal drug GBH, or fantasy.

The man has told an Adelaide court he knew a permit was needed to import the liquid but had paid $200 for it, planning to sort out any customs problems after its arrival.

Customs officers raided his house in the Adelaide suburb of Wayville and charged him.

Page, 28, says he wanted the substance to clean rust from his weights and a bicycle and to remove paint from tiny plastic and pewter figurines from his game Warhammer.

Page claims he is allergic to other chemicals and they had not proved effective.

The case continues.

Police seize ecstasy, fantasy

Update....

December 03, 2007 01:00am
Article from: The Daily Telegraph

* Deals allegedly made at ARQ club
* Police observed woman during sting
* 'You've got me', she allegedly said

A 47-year-old woman has allegedly been caught with more than 80 vials of the party drug fantasy and 182 ecstasy tablets in a police sting on a well-known Sydney nightclub.

Paula Ann Riley, who has also used the surnames Williams and Murdoch, was seen making a number of alleged drug deals at the Flinders St nightclub ARQ on Saturday night, a court heard yesterday.

About 9pm (AEDT), police saw Riley sitting at a table in the club, where she was approached by patrons, Parramatta Bail Court heard yesterday.

"On each occasion the person approaching (Riley) would have a short conversation with her before handing her a quantity of money," police documents tendered to the court revealed.

"She then reached into a brown handbag on the table ... then discreetly removed items and handed them under the table to the persons who had given her the money."

In one instance, a man without a shirt was allegedly seen to purchase tablets from her and then return to a group of fellow male patrons.

"These males put these items into their mouths and appeared to swallow," police allege.

"Police believe that these were drug transactions."

Shortly before 11pm, Riley was seen to leave the premises, and she was arrested outside.

She allegedly said to police: "You've got me, I'm not going to run. I've got pills in my bag."

Two men aged 29 and 33 were also charged after allegedly being involved in a drug sale.

It is claimed Riley had 182 ecstasy tablets, 84 vials of fantasy, 3.4g of cocaine and 0.3g of ketamine powder. She was charged with supplying a commercial quantity of drugs and possessing prohibited drug.

She denied all charges.

Applying for bail, her legal aid lawyer said Riley's son could provide some surety, she had lived in her Leichhardt housing commission home for 20 years and did not have a passport.

Magistrate Kevin Flack remanded Riley to appear in Central Local Court on Thursday.

Police sniff out offenders on highway
03.12.2007
By Samantha Healy

MOTORISTS were reportedly in high spirits yesterday as police waved them towards the Random Breath Test van, but some were probably left wishing they had cleaned out their car.

Cannabis, vehicle defects and at least one driver who had had one drink too many, were discovered during the all-day operation, which involved uniformed police, detectives, highway patrol officers and Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) officers, who all joined forces for the first of many operations to be conducted in the lead-up to Christmas.

Dubbed Strike Force Banglelong, police hit the highway early, setting up at the RTA check point in the southbound lanes of the Pacific Highway at Chinderah.

[-=|Picture will be insertered here later|=-] <- scanners fucked!

Cars were directed to the side road where drivers were breathalysed, their vehicles scrutinised and checked for defects.

A single police drug detection dog, which made the trip up from Sydney, waved its well-trained nose throughout each vehicle, looking for any traces of illegal substances.

Inspector Owen King of Tweed/Byron LAC said the two-day operation was set-up to target drug and traffic offences along the highway, but was not a response to recent reports of cross-border drug trafficking.

"There was no specific intelligence. We run operations like this when we have the resources to do so," Insp King said.

"And it coincides with the unofficial end of schoolies but we are also looking for any movements of drugs, drink drivers, defective vehicles, and traffic offences."

Detective Senior Constable Gary Ponting said the mood of most motorists had been positive, with frontline officers saying drivers were happy to see them out on the roads conducting operations.

But while some were happy to see the thin blue line, others would not have been quite so eager.

"We have found small amounts of cannabis and one driver with a low range PCA," Det Snr Const Ponting said.

"We have found a lot of traffic offences however. Mainly license and registration offences and a number of unroadworthy vehicles."

"But we will know more when we look at the figures."

Strike Force Banglelong will continue today, with police conducting operations until 8pm in accordance with a search warrant.

6kg of coke found in plane toilet

December 04, 2007 07:20am
Article from: AAP

ALMOST six kilograms of cocaine has been found dumped in an aircraft toilet cubicle at Sydney airport.

The Boeing 747 was searched by Customs officers on Sunday morning after arriving in Sydney from Los Angeles.

Officers and specialist dog teams found 12 blocks of shrink-wrapped white powder in a garbage bin in one of the toilet cubicles.

The powder was later confirmed as 5.7 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $660,000.

Customs manager Gayle Brown said the drugs had been handed over to the Australian Federal Police.

"It's pretty obvious that whoever planned to import these drugs got cold feet at some stage," she said.

Ms Brown said Customs officers focus on checking passengers but also regularly search international aircraft.

"This latest detection provides another good example of why we need to continue carrying out these physical checks."

Brisbane - Monday, 3rd December 2007

Joint Media Release - Australian Crime Commission (ACC), Queensland Police Service (QPOL), AFP and the Australian Customs Service

A joint law enforcement operation targeting the trafficking and supply of heroin in Brisbane has culminated today with the arrest of a further 12 people for serious drug offences, bringing the total number arrested as part of the operation to 29.

Operation Darsham / Delta East was a joint multi-agency law enforcement investigation involving the Australian Crime Commission (ACC), Queensland Police (QPS), Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Customs Service (Customs). The operation closed earlier this morning when investigators apprehended 10 men and two women at addresses in the southern and south-western suburbs of Brisbane.

Today's closure follows the first stage of Operation Darsham which took place at the end October 2007 where police arrested 17 people during dawn raids on more than 50 homes, businesses and blocks of land in south-east Queensland. The operation was code-named Operation Delta East in Queensland.

From this phase, police seized $135,000, believed to be tainted property or the proceeds of crime, as well as a small number of notes suspected of being counterfeit, and quantities of heroin, cannabis and crystal methylamphetamine.

Those arrested and charged from the final phase of the operation today are a:
A 35-year-old man from Inala charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court at a later date.
A 26-year-old man from Brisbane City charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court at a later date.

A 28-year-old man from Doolandella charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court at a later date.

Investigators have issued a notice to appear to a 30-year-old man in custody at Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre. He will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court at a later date in relation to trafficking in a dangerous drug.

ACC Chief Executive Officer Alastair Milroy said the closure of Operation Darsham comes after more then two years of investigation by the ACC, Queensland Police, Customs and AFP.

"The combination of resources and intelligence from the participating agencies has disrupted the activities of a significant criminal network which will no doubt reduce the flow of heroin onto the streets of south-east Queensland.

"Operation Darsham has once again illustrated the importance of working closely with our partner agencies and we are committed to this partnership as we continue to fight organised crime," Mr Milroy said.

Detective Superintendent Brian Wilkins from Queensland Police State Crime Operations Command, said, "We will continue to aggressively track those involved in drug production, supply and distribution. Drugs like heroin are a cancer in society and the Queensland Police Service and other law enforcement agencies are absolutely committed to combat this hideous crime.

"These criminals need to know that we are constantly monitoring and targeting their activities. We will continue to target these networks, aggressively pursue their assets and profits derived from crime and actively prosecute the individuals involved," Detective Superintendent Wilkins said.

"A great deal of the information we act on comes from the community and we continue to encourage members of the public to speak out and help us in our fight against drugs. Anyone with information about drug activities should contact Crime Stoppers on XXXX XXX XXX."

Dope fuels drug bust in fake LPG tanks
December 06, 2007

POLICE believe they have smashed a major drug trafficking operation in which cannabis was smuggled from South Australia to Queensland in fake LPG tanks.

Nine people have been arrested in the two states over the operation which involved transporting cannabis across the country hidden inside the fake tanks on the back of utility trucks.

Police found 13kg of the drug, equal to more than 4,300 street deals, when they arrested a 39-year-old South Australian man on the Gold Coast yesterday.

He was charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and was expected to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

His arrest sparked a search of various premises in Queensland which resulted in the arrest of three local men, two aged 43 and one aged 39, who were charged with a range of offences including possessing cannabis, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of cash and possession of tainted property.

They were bailed to appear in court at a later date.

In South Australia police arrested a 39-year-old man and charged him with trafficking in a commercial quantity of cannabis and reported three men for growing cannabis.

A fifth man was issued a notice for growing one cannabis plant.

Superintendent Linda Fellows said the latest arrests followed the seizure of more than 55,000 street deals of cannabis from the same drug syndicate.

She said considerable effort had been taken to hide the cannabis.

"This was quite a sophisticated operation," she said.

"They (the fake tanks) were well-made and done with the intention of hiding cannabis from the authorities."

Supt Fellows said police would allege the syndicate had been operating for several months and was engaged in growing cannabis in South Australia for transport and sale in Queensland.

"This is, without doubt, a very large syndicate involved in organised crime," she said.
