The Alcohol thread...

It would probably burn your veins, hit your heart and do something pretty bad I imagine. I have no idea.

what would happen if one IVed alcohol? (vodka, rum)

God-damn. Imagine that burn going through your veins. I know it's possible to "smoke" alcohol, and I think it has to do with a quick procedure involving liquid nitrogen, but I could be wrong. I only looked it up years ago.

Not good, drinking alcohol gives your body time to process it properly. It can take up to an hour for your body to completly process a few standard drinks.

If you IV it, it's in your bloodstream instantly. So it's very easy to overshoot your hit.

Plus if its not 100% pure you be getting impurities.

just for the record - plugging alcohol is extremely dangerous as well as it bypasses first-pass metabolism and allows a lot more alcohol into your bloodstream as a result.

so do not go plugging alcohol anyone. plus it will burn and irritate the hell outta your rectum :|

Heh, yeah I've heard about this plugging of grog.

Don't know how true it is, but I was a bit spun out about a year ago, a mate told me teen females in the USA were plugging alcohol to avoid being caught by their parents, something to do with having no alcohol breath. There may have been deaths involved.

Geez, takes the majority of enjoyment out for me if it doesn't hit my taste buds.

I heard they were soaking tampons in vodka and putting those up their vag. Kinda sounds like media hype and also sounds, painful

interesting, im gunna soak my missus pad in vodka and see what happens, she doesnt drink so should be eventful.

Is that serious, do you have a source that sounds like it would be a funny read. The things you do when your kids. We used to hit the butane and nangs together so I guess I can't really be critical

google 'tampons soaked in vodka' a fair bit comes up.

I was trying to figure out how they would get the vodka out of the dishwasher after the cycle. LOL

That does look interesting though, I wonder what other spirits this would work with. Is this specific to vodka or would something like white rum work just as well? I imagine it would.

You gotta think with vaporizing alcohol, it would be tough to smoke a whole shot, just look at how long the water in a humidifier lasts before you have to change it. seems like you'd have to hit it for hours to get even a few ounces into you.

I've I'vd all sorts of spirits including goon... For any effect you need to do a few shots(IV) like a shots worth. I never done that much as it burns like fuck (vodka), but hits u nearly instantly.... There is a huge danger tho of possible stroke(ish) type side effects and also a huge risk of internal bleeding..

For proper lager yeast you want temps even lower, 9C-14C.

If you used the yeast that came with a can of extract (coopers maybe?) then it will most likely be ale yeast. Even if the can says "Lager".

Ferment temps kept low will give a cleaner, fresher taste. (well im guessing thats what your after, some people arnt).

Yeast creates byproducts at all temps while fermenting, they can change a beers flavour dramatically. If you ferment at the temp suited to the yeast you will get less weird/funky flavours.

Back when I was home brewing weekly, I found that once I got a temperature controller for my fridge, all my beers started tasting a lot better. Never threw a batch out after that.

Most of the companies that do wort-extract-cans think the common person cant control their brewing temps, so they go ahead and say that you can brew between ridiculous temps (ie 21-27C), of course anyone can do that, and of course there beer wont taste as good. (Unless using belgian or other specialty beer yeast, wont go there now).
I think they do it so people go out, buy the whole kit, get home make beer, then it tastes like its not worth the effort. But at least they've sold you nearly $150 worth of shit.

They create their 'own' yeast packs too, mainly containing ale yeast, but to trick a certain person they put a small amount of lager yeast in there too. Hoping its enough to get a 'lager' taste without putting too much in to get weird tasting byproducts of high temp fermentation.

Not long after I got my temp controlled fridge I started using separate yeasts, threw the ones with the can out.

sorry for the late reply dude, havnt been only in a while..

and thank you so much for the advice, greatly appreciated!! I'm taking it all on board... and yes, you are right, Im using the simple coopers extract cans to begin with as I currently have very limited experience with brewing.. so what would you say would be the ideal ferment temperature when using the yeast out the cans? my budget is very limited at the moment and Im just tryin to get the best out of what I can afford to work with.. Im guessing something slightly under 20 degrees?

I'll PM you once I'm a bit further down the track n we start experimenting with different yeasts n what-not as you have an amazing amount of knowledge on the subject :)

thanks in advance dude

EDIT: by the way, out first batch turned out really nice! a couple of longnecks had that strong homebrew favour but most of them had a really nice crisp, lager taste which was really surprising for a very first attempt!! I have high hopes for our next batch :)
