The Alcohol thread...

It matters so much on the type of wine it is . . thats how it seems for me at least

Definitely. Especially if its a wine made by older methods. Apparently more traditional methods of winemaking don't involve as much flitration and so the extra impurities are what give you killer hangovers in addition to dehydration.

I've been smoking more cigarettes when i drink lately, and the hangovers are way way worse.

Publicans fear home keg another nail in the coffin

IT'S a great Aussie tradition but on-tap beers are under threat from the "stay at home" pub.

Publicans say a move by the nation's largest brewer to launch a mini keg - allowing drinkers to pour draught beer at home - is the latest blow to their struggling industry and will hurt sales of tap beer.
AHA NSW president Paul Nicolaou said the Australian arm of Japanese-owned brewer Lion recently briefed his organisation on plans to roll out "Tap King" nationwide. Tap King is a three-litre keg that sits in the fridge, offering drinkers draught beer at home.
The kegs work with a refill system. After opening, each refill lasts for three weeks before needing to be replaced with a fresh batch.

Six beers will initially be available for the Tap King - Toohey's New, XXXX Gold, James Squire Golden Ale, Toohey's Extra Dry, Hahn Super Dry and James Boag's Premium. Industry sources said the kegs would sell for $33 each, while a branded beer refill will cost up to $28.

"We have made urgent representations to Lion to highlight the dissatisfaction of our members with the proposed introduction of Tap King," Mr Nicolaou said.
He said publicans were concerned about Tap King hastening the slump in draught beer sales. Publicans are also angry that they are being asked to sell the kegs at their bottle shops.

beers on tap are too expensive.

last time i was out i paid more for a schooey of coopers pale than i did for a peroni. how the fuck does that work?

suppose to go out and pay a fuck ton for shit brews and then cause no one is allowed to drive anymore pay for a fucking taxi as well.

^ Probably because there is more beer in a schooner than a stubby and there is a 95% chance that your Peroni was the bullshit imitation that they brew under licence in Australia anyway like most "European" beers. Coopers isn't a cheap beer to begin with either.

Those kegs are a rip off though, 3 litres is only the equivalent of 9 stubbies or so (and thats calculating at 330mL a stubby, not the larger bottles a lot of those beers come in) so it works out to like 3.50 or more a stubby which is pretty much what it costs to walk into the bottleo and buy single bloody bottles. Basically double the cost of buying average priced beer in a slab.

Shame really, if it was a bit better value I might have considered getting one and refilling it etc.

Personally I don't see the attraction of the tap. Often tastes much better out of a bottle in my opinion. Maybe its the nasty pub pipes or dishwashers but it always tastes a bit dirty to me. The ambiance does improve the experience though- good company and good atmosphere does the trick.

Whoa im tottally the opposite, can/bottle tastes like crap compaired to a good tap pour.

Like emu export/vb from tap is a different drink altogether when compaired to can.

But yeah getting sick of having to pay 9 bucks for a pint then having to get a taxi. Home Pub ftw

But it will always be
Like emu export

I usually drink coopers which is bottle fermented that might have something to do with it. I prefer to never drink cans at all if I can help it but if it was 40C and I was in Meekatharra I wouldn't turn down a red one.

Could be.

They use dextrose to carbonate bottle condition beer, or a similar type of sugar. Whereas kegs are usually force carbonated with carbon dioxide.

Coopers is the only mainstream (very commercial) beer that I can stand.

Y'all should get out and support your local craft brewery.

Absolute favourite beer right there, but that liquid gold is 100 million times better from tap. Its got a whole keg for all the flavours to mix. Its good from a bottle (espescally longys) but dat keg flavour is where its at.

Denmark in WA has a pub wiv coopers vintage on tap and its fucking incredible. Cant find it anywhere else

Not if you're in South Australia. :-) A schooner is 285ml, a stubbie is 330ml or 375ml depending on the beer (375ml with coopers).

And yes those Fosters/Lion Nathan/Pacific Beverages fake imports are fucking crap.
