The Alcohol thread...

So alcohol hangovers leave me feeling less anxious, more motivated and a generally better outlook on life. Does any one else get this?

i used to for awhile when i was younger, i would wake up mildly hungover but feel kind of productively manic in a good way, and had a mild afterglow from the previous night, but then it stemmed into abuse and the feeling would end up turning into anxiety and a weird spacey, speedy like feeling, which i guess was mild W/D. ended up having mind fog and minor hallucinations. no surprise considering the states i used to get in. these days my tolerance is high, cant seem to get like that

cant recall having a heavy come down for a few years now, usually cos i mix booze with stimulants... my alcohol hangover has been replaced with a shitty few-day come down
 
Try Cascade lights . $24 dollars a case. .8 std dinks per beer. No hang over and you usally do not drink too many as you end up going to the toilet to much.It really has worked in cutting down my drinking as you nearly drink the same in lights as you do heavies and feel a lot better the next day.

The Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) Annual Alcohol Poll (2011) has found that more than five million Australians have been affected by alcohol-related violence, including 2.6 million who have been direct victims of such crime.

Alcohol-related crime is estimated to cost Australia $1.7b, with $750m alone spent on policing the problem.
The Alcohol Education Rehabilitation Foundation’s Range and Magnitude of Alcohol’s Harm to Others report (2010) estimates the cost of harm caused by someone else’s drinking to be $36 billion dollars annually (more than double previous estimates)

The National Drug Strategy Household Survey Report (2011) suggests that while daily drinking rates appear to have decreased, in particular for those aged 14 years or older (8.1% in 2007 and 7.2% in 2010); the consumption of alcohol at ‘risky’ levels has increased.

While the drink of choice among younger people has moved away from pre-mixed drinks and so-called ‘ready-to-drink’ products (7% change since 2007), the 2011 research shows an increase in poly drug use and the mix of alcohol with other drugs or substances such as energy drinks.

The Alcohol Education Rehabilitation Foundation’s (AER) Annual Alcohol Poll (2011) found 37% of Australians perceived alcohol as the most harmful drug, compared to tobacco and illicit substances (compared to 31% in 2010). In 2010, illicit substances were perceived as the most harmful drug.

In 2010, there was a statistically significant decrease (since 2007) in the proportion of Australians drinking daily from 8.1% to 7.2%.
The 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey found one in five people (20.1%) aged 14 years or older consumed alcohol at a level that put them at risk of harm from alcohol-related disease or injury. The number of people drinking in risky quantities increased from 3.5 million in 2007 to 3.7 million in 2010.

Research conducted by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (2010) indicates that 40% of Australians aged 20-29 years continue to represent the highest prevalence of risky drinking in the community.

The 2011 AER Annual Alcohol Poll found on average, Australian drinkers consume alcohol two days a week, while 29% consume alcohol three days a week or more.
The same poll indicates of those who consume alcohol, Generation Y is most likely to drink more in one sitting, with 20% typically downing six or more standard drinks, compared to 11% of Generation X and 9% of Baby Boomers.

17% of all drinkers admit to drinking to get drunk at least once a month, with 10% drinking to get drunk at least once a week.

80% of Australians in 2011 believe the community has a problem with excess drinking, an increase from 73% in 2010.

The AER Annual Alcohol Poll found 75% of Australians do not think it is okay to mix alcohol with energy drinks, 13% think it is okay and 12% are unsure.
The 2010 National Drug Strategy Household Survey found that 22.4% of recent drinkers aged 14 years of age or older put themselves or others at risk of harm whilst under the influence of alcohol in the last 12 months.

The Australian Institute of Criminology Drug Use Monitoring in Australia (DUMA) program suggests those charged with disorder offences on Friday and Saturday nights were more likely than those charged at other times to have consumed alcohol in the past 48 hours; and attributed alcohol as a factor in their actions.

The NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) reported a 25% increase in the level of alcohol-related offensive behaviour in the Sydney LGA between 2005 and 2009.
A survey of 2500 consumers by research group, Canstar Blue, this year found the average Australian spends $31 a week on alcohol, with New South Wales drinkers spending the most at up $39 a week.​

Years ago I got to wondering if there was a common 'peak innebriation' effect that all drinkers felt. I worked in dry countries for a decade but found expats who took their drinking very seriously indeed. For the most part we made our own wine or paid huge prices for black market liquor that never really stretched very far. Otherwise we bought 100% assay grade ethyl alcohol imported for lab work. We had to water it down and anyone who has ever had an eth and tonic on ice will tell you it is difficult to tell a 100% mix from one that is cut. Subsequently a lot of people (me
included) had some severe and often short-lived sessions on eth and one thing we all agreed that we experienced was the feeling that the ceiling is spiraling away when you crash out no matter whether your eyes are closed or open. I find the feeling very uncomfortable but was surprised by a few of my more hardcore mates who said that was the thing they craved when they tied one on. Eth is brutal but predictable depending on the care of the cut and these guys could gauge very accurately how much they needed to knock back in a fixed time to get them there. They were impact drinkers who functioned in a variety of jobs on a low-level buzz and ramped it up after hours every day in company or more often alone. Tragic really, and there were a few notable tragedies in the hunt for this odd, debilitating effect.
 
Alcohol has hundreds of years of documented research and, has been part of human history for a very long time. Fuck the police.

havent had access to drugs lately so been drinkin also been lonely... this combo = lots and lots of drunk dialing

btw altitude makes alcohol much stronger fun stuff...

and my new fav drink... rum and coke vanilla zero ... yum

this has probably been asked, but this thread is long... what are your hangover hangover remedies?

mine is:
- stop drinking at least an hour before sleep.
- water
- drink some milk cause its an anti-diuretic, allowing the body to retain water.
***morning***
- water
- banana
- one of those rehydration sachet you get from the chemist
- 1 tsp bicarb soda in water. the theory is excessive alcohol makes your body acidic, so the bicarb, being alkaline, helps to rebalance PH.
- shower
- valium
- cannabis
- TV
- water
- periodic light exercise. such as strolling.
 
^^ I would say just plain onld water and one or two shots of vodka at about 11am or whenever your hangover has really kicked in usually 2 hours after waking up for me. Only works if you have the discipline to stop at that and not get pissed again.

Also I would only do this a last resort as to me alcohol is much more of a drug, especially quality hard liquor 37% and up. Once I realised i could fix a hangover pretty much instantly with water and 2 shots of vodka I started using piss in much the way I used heroin/opiates. Also it fixes it for a only a few hours and depends on tolerance but after those few hours have passed the hangover seems to be pretty much gone or weaker.

Not sure if this is the best advice but just putting a short term fix out there, Doing that long term or daily and your on your way to alcoholism, however if you are a person with very strong self control and can not get wasted again then the method has saved me a few times.

Mine is: few pints of water inbetween drinks, something to eat before bed and water mixed with re-hydration powder,

When i wake up: many more pints of water mixed with pure fruit juice and re-hydration powder, healthy food, a valium, sleep. paracetamol if my head hurts too much, but dont like taking it after drinking because of the added strain on liver etc
 
I've been loving James Squire 'The Chancer' Golden Ale lately, my new fav beer. The bottleshop up the road from my last place had sixies for $15.50 too, awesome.
