The 2010 Winter Olympics Thread!!

man i was scared when Canada lost to the States...i thought for sure Russia would walk all over us.

I hope Canada n the US end up gettin a rematch

not cuz i want to see Canada get some redemtion but just because i think it will be a helluva rematch

PS The Rooskies got spanked :)

The other day on the news the local station was at a local ice rink and they were there with the Dallas Curling Club

apparently many people have had the interest peaked and are looking to get into Curling, i thought about trying it out muself, not cuz i have any illusions about "making it" but because it looks damn fun and its something different that I havent done before.

call me lame, but i'd take a date to the local curling club ;)

curling is fucking fun ...and there is usually a lot of drinking involved.

I wish I had the gumption to sign up. Its every saturday.

do most curling places allow alcohol in them?

not trying to be a total elitist (though i AM elite), but the torin olympics got me into curling. i raved about it for four years and people were like "faaaaag." i fought for it though! then along comes the vancouver games and now EVERYONE is sucking curling's dick! i know there are definitely people who already liked it before me and i know there are STILL people who legitimately like it and will even long after the games, but curling right now has become such a fad that it's annoying. funny thing though, for as many people as there are around here that "love curling" now... i seem to be the ONLY one who knows the rules and how the scoring works. which goes without saying that if i start curling... i'm gonna HAVE to be the skip!

dude, I think curling is badass too. I thought it was retarded until I actually sat down and watched a game with someone who knows how to play. the depth and amount of strategy that goes into playing that game is simply mind boggling.

agreed. i kind of accidentally got into it. i'd never even HEARD of it until torin, but i'd turn it on for background noise while i was on the computer night after night and found myself getting into women's curling because i thought 2 members of the swedish team were hot as fuck. eva lund and the other girl whose name i currently don't remember. i'd catch sweden's games as often as possible and ended up actually picking up on the rules and scoring. nowadays i consider myself to be pretty adequate when it comes to the game. i love the pace of the game, i love the creativity, i love the strategy, i enjoy the fact that it's a social game centered around sportsmanship. how can anyone not like it?

hahaha, this is awesome (the date part)! you have been a very very welcome addition to all of BL lately, HighonLife. for some reason, I don't think you are crazy, and that a curling date would work wonders for charm.

they should. curling appears to be like billiards or darts, a sport (side note: and they all are sports) that becomes more interesting and enhances the abilities of the players when alcohol is involved.

^ i love it because i play shuffleboard and it's like that but on a grand scale.

alasdair

well said! I lived to play shuffleboard last summer and it was such an intense, fun game. a true gentleman's game I reckon.

It will continue to suck balls until EA release a game for it on XBox ;)

just imagine Curling for the Wii 8o

anybody see the Canadian women's hockey team celebrate their gold medal victory over the U. S. by chugging beer and smoking cigars? that was rather hilarious. it seems that the Winter Olympics kind of got off too a bad foot (with the low degree of snowfall and the Georgian death) - and then kind of morphed into a circus.

^ they got in all kinds of shit for that. ostensibly it was because one of the girls was only 18 (legal age is 19 in BC), but that's a bullshit double standard. there is NO WAY this is such a big deal if it was the men's team.

^^ i dont see why anyone in Canada would care

in some provinces the drinking age is 18

i understand one must obey the laws of where they're at....................................sorta ;)

but who the hell cares, some 18 yearolds in Canada are allowed to drink and some arent 8)............big deal

No one in Canada cares. We're just glad we won.
