Is there the same hate levied at Blair and Brown for the letting the banks get away with it? Nope. It's an anti-conservative thing, people forget the whole Welfare state thing was a Conservative creation in the first place.

Churchill started it :) Before 1945 when many think it was. I'm well read into it. I'm a history buff. You could argue it started even earlier than that with the Liberals even.

Well under the Tories from 1979 to 1997 real term disposal cash per head per week went up from 150 to 250 pounds. that's a pretty important part of peoples lives. So not every aspect is bad.

Arguing a single date for the 'start' of the welfare state is largely impossible. The welfare state did not just come about with the start of the NHS in 1948, there were the (liberal) welfare reforms before WWI, and campaigns for public health and state involvement in welfare go back to the Victorian period.

Having said that, I agree with what you're saying about Thatcher.

Yup with the liberals in early early 1900s and all that shit back in Victorian times like you said, completley agree. The Welfare State thing that come out of the Beveridge Report was hugely supported by Churchill who started the wheel as he held all the chips, and even before that report came out it is well documentated the disgust he had at how we looked after our own nations people.
