I think the best and most unique ones just happen. They are special names for a special person!! Often they are the most ridiculous too...one of the names I had for my ex was "Beluga." I'm not quite sure how I came up with that one, as he looks nothing like a beluga whale... though I do think they're super cute and I want to squish one!!! Must be because that's how I felt about him He would call me "Boogy" - derived from "booger breath." I don't eat my boogers though, I usually flick em somewhere; I dunno what HE was thinking

A few of my favorites that I use:

I also tend to mix it up from the usual "I love you" and use a different verb... "Adore" and "cherish" are two that come to mind.

&I personally LOVE being referred to as "sweetheart" for some reason. Babe/baby, not so much.

I use the word 'Treasure' a lot when talking to friends . This will get shortened to Treash. I also use the word Hon / Honey / love etc when talking to female friends

My pet name for my other half changes every now and then depending on what we have been doing, where we have been, what has made us laugh etc.
