effie: pizza and tea? Tea pizza? You've lost me.

@thread: TDS = the anti-lounge. Fewer lulz, but way more awesome people. It's true: suffering builds character. :)

Some english people refer to dinner as 'tea'. It's usually a northern thing though and I thought Effie was from the south.

Weeeeell yes, sometimes. Personally I always say breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I think in the colonial era 'afternoon tea' was a light meal that fell between lunch and dinner, so in some places it kinda shifted to tea being the last meal of the day and dinner becoming lunch.

To be honest though, it depends where you're from. I have a fair few friends from the states and it's always hard to get across that for a country that's smaller than a lot of US states we have massive variation in language, accent and slang. You could start off in Sheffield, which has one set of slang and a strong Yorkshire accent, drive an hour or so and be in Manchester - completely different accent and slang. Drive another hour and you'll be in Liverpool, and another completely different accent and use of language.

Also the english are best at destroying and reusing our own language. A friend of mine who's big on etymology tells me this is a common thing, language undergoes faster evolution at it's point of origin, and is actually better preserved in areas where it's spread to.

So true mate!! Us Aussies are the same :D

Also, just for the record, a lot of Aussies say "tea" for dinner as well, but it's kind of bogan/chav/redneck to do so ;)
I just say breakfast, lunch and dinner. No two-ways about it! :D

^ I thought "Brunch" was a universal thing in the west:\

Am spewin... got thru the shower and cleaned up by midday, 2nd brick down, have to wait for Plumber the fuckin toilet is broke and leakin:!
Will get to see my lovley g/f soon though shel drag me out of here later after this guy gets his shit done:)
The language differentials between short distances in countries and between states both here and in tha US i find facinating, Language and the way we use it, could go on for hours:D

Sheffsam.. I lived in Sheffield for a while :D but I got it from my parents, they always say tea..

And yes, by tea I meant dinner, hehe.

Hey badfish! How are you? I'm tired bit can't sleep..

^^ This guy knows what's up ;)

Oooh badfish you've changed your avatar! I didn't recognise you for a second =D

I got my early indoctrination about meals and what to call them from Winnie the Pooh. You know, "time for a little something." It's an all purpose name for a meal that is quite adaptable at any time of day or night.=D

^ very sensible indeed Herby :D

That's two people referencing Winnie the Pooh on here in two days! This is why TDS is the best =D

How are you today? I'm sleepy but snug and have a free day ahead of me, it's not a bad way to be :) especially with all the running around I seem to have been doing of late..

Badfish I demand you return your nyan-can avatar to us right now! (Only joking, I like your new one a lot <3 )

Hum dum dee dum, hum de dum dum, i'm so rumbly, in my tumbly...time to munch an early luncheon, time for something sweet :)

I can play the entire musical score on piano :D

You ever have one little thing that upsets you a lot? You know, like there's a situation that upsets you, and there's one thing about that entire situation that basically makes you upset with the whole situation, and through that you find everything else about the situation that makes you upset.

You ever have that one little thing thrown in your fucking face when you're desperately trying to cope with it in a healthy way? Doesn't really help.
