TDS TDS Pets thread vs. now with added SCOMFF!

He looks so happy. I loooove beardies for their very dog/cat like demeanor. They are so personable. Probably one of the best pets for a person with pet constraints.

There is about to be a complete and absolute photodump occurring in the following NSFW tags. BEVAREEE!! I haven't synced my pictures with my computer for a while ;).

star, my boyfriends mom does wildlife animal rehab..she gets coons and what not all the time..they can be very nice and oh soo cute!!

^Holy crap, that is really cute! :)

At my old place there was a raccoon living near our dumpster. I used to be so terrified taking out the garbage and got quite good at tossing the garbage safely from a distance so I wouldn't get mauled by a raccoon lol. If garbage tossing was an Olympic sport, I think I could have a chance at winning gold from living there for a few years. :D

Spork LOLOLOL garbage toss at the olympics. I just literally died laughing.

But holy crap too much cuteness coming from these raccoons. You people must tell us more about their personalities and traits!!

Ok let me clear a few things up.... They r super cute...when they r babies thru about a year. Now he is cute when he wants to be, but the first year is heaven. I am not in wildlife rehab, but i have worked at pet stores since i was 15 its something that is natural to me i love animals my friends call me josh corwin somtimes.i knew what i had to do to "rehabilitate" him but I just didnt have it in me to leave him completely alone because thats what u have to do when u "rehab" because that entails that u will release which isnt that easy raccoons r territorial if u drop off a coon in another coons territory it will come lookin for it 50% of released coons die. So i went against what every raccoon educated person told me. if u r interested look up remos page on google. Anyone who has raised raccoon will tell u that first cuddly year is heaven, but sexual frustration can be a bitch, so during january and february i just go into his area and give him a scratch and that is about all. its not like hes mean u can just tell he wants to b left alone cause they have a mating season but they go back to normal in march. He is challenging to say the least, but also very rewarding you have never been kissed until u have been kissed by a coon lol. You have never been pissed until u have been pissed off by your raccoon. One night he unlocked his cage (ya they have aposable thrumbs its so annoying those stupid little fingers !!!) so he get out while i am sleeping and decides he wants to know whats in my drawrs so he procedes to open my dresser and throw cloths everwhere. He found my snack drawr and litteraly ate all of his favorite things. Which r gummy worms and slim jims.i never heard anything cause i sleep with earplugs because he likes to make jungle noises at night. So then he starts climbing my nightstand knocks my brand new 500$ iphone4 onto my tile floor cracking the screen and dumping my glass of soda on it and my pride and joy....my temperpedic matress OMG i wanted to kill him. He keeps life interesting. Did u kno they have an I.Q of a 4 year old i didnt really believe it until one day when he picks up a circular ring and set it on my head and tried to push it down it was like watching a toddler put the triangle block thru the triangle hole, he amazes me everyday. I miss that first year when all he wanted was me, noone els nothing els he just wanted to suck on my neck, that and his bottle he would just sit on my shoulder and watch tv *sighs* those were the days. But i could talk about him for hours but if anyone finds a baby coon take the advice that i didnt, and either leave it there for nature to take its course or take it to a liscenced person if possible. I live in cali i face major fines if i get caught with him and if i could do it over i dont kno that i would do it again not cause its challenging but because he deserves a forrest not a 6x6 room( his room not mine he is having a whole room renovated and made coon proof then no more cage).

And stardust my pitty zoo lol ya my white pitbull has horrible horrible allergies and he has to eat science diet food with the limited ingredience diet that has only lamb and rice periode its 50$ for a 40 pound bag. I had a test done at the vets cost me 800$ but they gave me a list of everything hes allergic to. Cause before that he would turn bright red and het horrible hives and b miserable, but thats not all the allergies make him super prone to ear infection so he is on an almost constant dose of zyrtec for allergies and perscription eardrops. He goes to the vet all the damn time.

Awwww, Josh, you sound like a true Dad reminiscing about your ornery teenager's infancy LOL. I have always thought that it is good that I've never found a baby raccoon because I know I probably would have done exactly what you did. Truth is I am scared of the big coons around my neighborhood--they kill chickens, rabbits, ducks, kittens and even one small dog. And the worst screams of pain I have ever heard were from one raccoon male beating up another.:( That said, I am as susceptible to that cuteness as the next person. Could there be a cuter face? (well, maybe an otter!).

I LOVE pitbulls. I have never had one myself but have been friends with many and their owners. They are some of the most loyal and intelligent and SOULFUL dogs I have ever met.Yours are beauties! That sucks about the white one's allergies. Vet bills can kill you.

How does the raccoon relate to the dogs and vice versa? Also, would it be possible to have the raccoon neutered? Oh wait, I just answered my own question--you can't legally be the owner. That's ridiculous considering the situation. I understand the law and think it's there for a good reason--not every abandoned baby raccoon would land in heaven like yours did; but still, it would make both of your lives much easier it sounds like since he will never live in the wild.

Don't be worried about inundating this thread with more pictures. There are quite a few animal fanatics here in TDS and we love to ooh and ahh over each others animals LOL.:) So, more raccoon and pitty pictures!<3

Ya i couldnt leave that cute little bastard but if i had seen him in the wild i may have left him u kno, i believe u should greet death as an old friend, but somone els had found him and they had him for a day or two he was dehydrated and they were feeding the one thing that could hurt him, cows milk like really noone thought to use google i mean seriously, so i took him and raised him up, as for the dogs he grew up with them he likes to play with my white dog mortis and with my grandpas chijuajuas.as for the subject of pitbulls they r my all time favorite dogs. But i liken it to this: pitbulls are very powerfull, energetic, fast and beautiful like a sports car, but you probly wouldnt buy your kid a ferrari as their first car somthing will go wrong. I dont believe that the first dog u ever own should be a pitbull( although there is a good chance it will work out). Pitbulls need stucture and discipline like any dog but with a fine attention to detail the first year is an investment, when u go to somones house and they say let me put my dog up, that is from lack of training during a crucial part of their developement, my dogs are spoiled in a sense but they have never tasted human food so they do not beg they do not come near the table when we eat. My point is that as a pitbull owner you have the responsibilty to make sure that your dog is well behaved so that we can kill this vicious stereotyp that plagues the breed they need to punish the deed not the breed. And i will keep the pics coming i have a senegal parrot too i need to get pics of him up im glad u guys like them.

Fatjosh that story about your coon is so awesome. He sounds so funny but oh such a handful. ..and I think dogs are a handful sometimes. :P

I hate to preach but I have to because I've researched a lot about dog foods. And I despise these money hungry brands especially Science Diet for being so expensive but so poor in quality. I've spent a lot of time researching online that people don't like to do. (forums are my friend). Science diet is crap and vets like to push it because they get spiffs (commission) that or they're just uneducated about dog food. The ingredients are extremely poor even in the limited ingredient version.

Look into Orijen, it is the best food you can buy your dog. It contains 80% meat and 20% canine digestible vegetables and grains. They are a canadian based company that doesn't spend any money on advertising. All meats used are human grade and when you look at the ingredient list you'll see not just the first ingredient as meat but the first 5 ingredients being of meat source. It isn't much more expensive than science diet. Do your own research and don't completely believe vets, they like their money ;). Trust me when I say Orijen is worth looking into.

It can be obtained online pretty easily from petflow and shipping is free on the big bags. Other notable high quality brands include: Fromm, Canidae, Taste of the Wild, Evangers. Below these brands are Bluebuffalo and Wellness. (if you aren't able to find the better brands in any local stores and don't want to order online). Wellness and BB both has a limited ingredient list similar to Science Diet. The reason they are better quality is because they don't use corn gluten meal as the main filler.

I did notice Science Diet stepped it up a notch with their "advanced fittness" (yes I read dog food labels regularly I'm a freak) formula and have included meat as the first ingredient but their secondary ingredient is still corn gluten meal. Corn, especially corn gluten is not nutritious or digestible. It's very cheap filler. And adding "chicken" as the main ingredient isn't accurate either since chicken contains approx. 70% water, when they dehydrate the food it falls much lower on the ingredient list. Foods such as Orijen and the brands I listed above use "chicken meal" which is the predryed version of the meat prior to dehydrating the dog food keeping it at the top of the ingredient list. (also I'm using chicken as an example)

I can talk about dog food all day. If only there was a Dog Nutritionalist job I'd be set. 8(

One of the saddest thing around where I live is how many people that live on the street have pitbulls. What happens is that the owners cycle in and out of jail or psych facilities and then they lose their dogs and since they are pits with no training (and no structure usually) they end up at the shelter unadopted. It is heartbreaking to me. I've often thought that one of the best things that you could do for homeless people is offer foster care for their pets when they are institutionalized. I feel bad for both the people and the dogs but truthfully more for the dogs because they have no say in it.:(

I grew up with an African Grey parrot named Niger. He was amazing. I can hardly wait to see pictures of your parrot.:)<3
