Tattoo FAQ - please make separate threads for image ideas

The real way to get anything accomplished is to go to your local friendly tattoo guy, not the dirty biker one but the artist one whos prepetually on speed, and ask him to help you with it... of course you're going to need SOME idea of what you want, but this is what my friends have done and it works well

just make sure that you personally look the word up and know what it means before you have some stranger tattoo it on your body forever...you wouldn't want to find out down the road that it really means something different/ bad

do NOT go with a free translation. Try converting something to latin then back to english and you'll see what i mean. you're going to need it professionally translated, which will probably run you around $10-20.

uv tattoo?

i have a question, anyone know much about uv tattoos?

is it possible to get one in australia? specifically melbourne? or is it a purely american thing?

i didn't think they were legal in the US, but i am probably wrong. people aren't sure how safe they are anyway.

there are a few uv tattoos in the gallery. i'd suggest pm'ing those people directly in case they don't happen to see this thread. i'd be hesitant to suggest such a tattoo to someone since it is so new. has the long-term safety been proven yet?

i know people in the u.s. who have them. theyre cool under a uv light, but otherwise i think they just look like shitty faded tattoos.

There is one tattoo place in melbourne who does them. It could be Tattoo Magic but I can't remember for sure. Most places wont use that ink because it is not proven to be safe.

The ink itself does not hold up very well. I've seen a few people come into our shop (piercing) and after a few years you can barely see any line work at all.

Several UV inks are suspected carcinogens and allergens and at this time, but no research has been conducted into the possible side effects of long term exposure.

Hasn't one UV ink been approved by the FDA? However, it said it showed no side-effects in animals not humans. But then again, almost all things are first approved on the basis that they don't hurt animals such as rats and chimps but then again I am not sure if human studies are first required for all things.

I don't think a thorough ethical study could be done on humans in regards to uv ink. We may find out the safety of this ink in the next few decades if anyone does any studies on those who have had uv tattoos in the past, but i can't imagine it being an important part of science that will be properly investigated. Propper studies need funding and those who do provide funding on such things would rather their money go towards a more productive use.

Tattoo after care? Am i doin it right? How did you care for yours?

Sup yall? Got a question for everyone who been tattooed here, the search didnt really find what i wanted

I just got a nice lil one done about 5 days ago, maybe 4. So now im lookin for the best way to care for it but GOD DAMN there is so much conflicting opinions.

At first my skin took to it maaaad good, i didnt even get much redness or nothing like that. It didnt bleed like.....at all....I didnt see any blood come out the whole time, maybe just a couple little drops. when it got done, it layed flat on my skin for the first day or so and it was tender but didnt even really hurt.

Anyways, i started out w/bacitracin for the first 2 days and put it on whenever it seemed to be dryin out. which is what the artist told me to care for it with, for the first 48 hours. Now im usin Cocoa Butter which seems to be pretty good. Im at the stage now where my skin where the ink is at, is kinda lifted up a lil, "outdented" i guess. if you rub over my skin you can feel the tattoo. And it is flaking a lil bit, but every time it seems to get dry i put the lotion on it. I aint scratched it or washed it with a washcloth or anythig that would exfoliate it , so i been good with that.

but Im just worried of fuckin this up ya feel me? I hear so much shit "dont put lotion on it it will be to wet" "whatever you do make sure you keep puttin lotion on" and etc. Its mad confusing. I aint got no problem avoiding picking it and tht shit, and i know that is the number one rule, to not pick the scabs and whatever. My man got one the same day as me, and his got mad flakey and peeley and now its pretty much flat in his skin and totally smooth, and mines still kinda stickin up outta the skin, so im all paranoid n shit.

SO, tell me, how did you care for your tattoo after you got it, how did it turn out? And i know none of yalls opinions is a replacement for a tattoo artists opinion, but just outta your own personal experience, does it sound like everythings aight w/my ink here? I dont wanna do the wrong thing just want it to heal up and make sure i take care of it the best way I can. and nyone else feel free to discuss the shit that you did or experiences you had, this thread aint gotta be all about my shit so if you got somethin to say just holla.
