Obviously i could look this information up on any web site but i wanted some answers from people who've actually been there and can point out maybe other symptoms that show you're leading up to addiction, with the amount i take, though sparatic as it may be, I'm probably close to being there just don't notice anything yet. Any helpful information would be appreciated.

Constantly thinking about the opiate, hoping and wishing you could go back to that fuzzy dream for just a little while longer. Intense cravings, lack of interest in sex, and of course watching your money drift away from a decent wad to a couple crumbled up 20's (Unless you're just balling out of control). Insomnia is always fun too. :( If you have to ask about addiction, then there is probably reason for concern! Be safe bro.

"It comes like a thief in the night"

You dont realise how much your usage keeps rising unless you actually sit down and do them math.

^^^^pretty much spot on. I never thought I would have a problem, but I decided to step back and look at where all my funds go. I noticed everything in my life right now is compramised(sp?) so I have the cash for what I need...At first I thought I didn't need it...it was just fun, but I can't go without that fun..It's pretty scary at first when you realize that its got to this point. but the best thing is to just keep with people here at BL...there are alot of us who know what your going through..and what you will go through. Be Safe and Enjoy Life...Addiction is not a life stopping thing...just another hurdle for those who are looking to get off the track..

The ritual or preparing your dose will become thrilling. Crushing up that OC, dissolving that dilly, filtering thru cotton, drawing up your hit. Every aspect of administration becomes an obsession. The burn in your nose, the flash of blood in the barrel, THE TASTE!!

I was watching a documentary about Nico of the Velvet Underground and one of her lovers was discussing the life of a dopefiend. "You always have a goal."

Eventually, you'll incorporate your high into normal aspects of daily life. Opiates make everything more enjoyable.. funerals, cosmic blowling, etc.

Soon you'll begin to use even when you're doing something that you would naturally enjoy, but the drugs will enhance it. And forget about what these subsances are really meant for... killing pain. 200mg of MScontin helped me out a lot when i lost myt aunt and uncle to a murder suicide. 240mg of OC helped me thru 911... as pussy as that sounds

Right now, I'm dopesick... I've been a lot better lately, but I used 3 days straight, and i'm on the second day.. when it gets bad... and just that lingering thought in your mind that $5 worth of smack would set you straight, elevate your depression, make ou socialable... cure the rotten asshole you are to your girlfriend when you're dopesick. I'm ranting..

he main lesson is... don't use drugs to augment things that you love to do sober... because those passions can lose their luster

Well said, Ketamike. I tend to focus on the end-stage of my addiction, when dope was in total control, when it had stopped giving me any pleasure, when I could not live without it. But there was a long period before that when heroin worked wonders in my life, gave a weird kind of energy, relaxed me, helped me work, gave me social confidence, made me look better (I have the photos to prove it) I started using because it worked! I could afford it, I could get it easily with little or no risk. After a couple of years long frantic, manic, binge on coke, expending vast amounts of money and energy doing absolutely nothing, I was so happy to turn to a drug that seemed to work with my life and not against it. Boy was I wrong on that score, in the long run, but that's the thing, that's why we're all here on bluelight, DRUGS WORK.

HEROIN WORKS. THen eventually it stops working and try to kill you.

The first signs of opiate addiction are when you start coming up with excuses to use.

When you start telling yourself things like "I could do this and that better if I was high" or "I'd have more fun doing this if I was high", you're on your way to becoming an addict.

You start excusing the fact that you know you're using more often than you should. You know you shouldn't use so much, but you keep coming up with good reasons and exceptions.

Before long, you're using almost daily. And you might stop yourself.

But you know you're really in trouble when you stop yourself for a few weeks or however long, then go back to periods where you're using regularly. With a lot of people this happens a few times before they seriously get hooked. I went through on and off periods. Eventually that on period just never ended.

It took me a really long time to get seriously addicted. I was using weak painkillers like Percocet and Vicodin for years in the beginning.

My friends who jumped right in to OxyContin and within two months were taking no less than 40mgs at a time (usually a lot more) were completely hooked in less than 6 months, though.

Another sign is if you're taking more than one dose a day. If you keep redosing and do this on a regular basis, you're hooked. Maybe not that badly, but you're hooked.

If you don't want to become physically addicted and see that you're having to take breaks every now and again, you need to just stop. Especially if you're using large doses. And if you can't stop on your own, get some help. Or your next break might not happen until you royally fuck up your entire life and throw everything away.

well, if you are concerned you might be copping an addiction that would be my first clue.

mentally- you can think of nothing else, you become mentally obsessed to the point where its just easier to get high then have to THINK about it all the time (anyone know what i mean here)

physically- when your body wakes up in the middle of the night just to take a shot so you can continue sleeping comfortably.

but hey, don't wait to find out whether you have an addiction or not, it ain't worth it.

peace,

Love In Vein pretty much hit it right on the spot. Some really early signs of addiction would be if you haven't used Opiates in more than a day and you start to have a runny nose or pissing like a racehorse every hour... also stomach pains and irregularities... those are the first signs of an Opiate addiction, physically. Mentally would be the need for an Opiate because you just can't function without it. Depression would also go along with it... My advice would be to stop while your ahead and while your hole isn't that deep.

Good luck.

When you cant get it up, spend 15 minutes taking a piss, and shitting out things not meant to fit out of an elephants asshole(if anything at all).

thanks all

Thank you all for your advice and concern. I take it i should stop while i'm still just taking vics and percs before the heavy shit gets here. Thank you all again!

It's all about WILL POWER and wanting to have a normally functioning brain and sex, along with a penis will all erectile capabilities. You just have to tell yourself opiates aren't what you want in life.
Of course i am saying this having taken 300mg of Morphine today.:\

This may be useless to most people, but if you really want to quit and you have the option, move to a place where it's hard to score good stuff.

I would personally kill my mother for a nice opiate right now (or possibly even some decent weed at this point) but I've been mostly off the illegal stuff for a while now. Just can't get it without exceptional risk and expense :(

I will almost certainly be moving back into a hot drug spot soon, and will no doubt relapse to some extent. But I tell you, the time you manage to keep relatively clean you never regret, it's necessary to enter reality once in a while at least!
