Super Important - Drugs and Driving

If you're at all concerned with his ability to drive, you should flat out refuse to get in the car. However the alternative shouldn't be to get the least tired person to drive, it should be to rest until at least one of you are not tired.

I drove home a little stoned the other night.....was fine though...i wouldn't do it if I was anymore stoned that what I was.....as for pills, will never drive on those.....I can't see myself making it a block let alone the entire way! :\

One day after I had been out all night, (I had consumed 4 pills, about 12ml of G, and some K during the evening before I went out) I decided that I was not in any state to drive... So I has a couple of points of speed and was fine, the moral of the story, always check your speed...

^^^ that is just stupid.

What the hell is wrong with all you people choosing this thread of all threads to share your stupidity in driving whilst high.

If you haven't read the first post and the first thread go back and do so.

What can ya say to that?

:X

this thread certainly does make me think about driving after having taken drugs. I used to think in terms of getting and not getting caught. I guess I always knew that there were certain dangers in driving after taking drugs. I think the best process for ensuring you dont drive fucked or tired is to think before you go out "how am I getting home?". This way there is no chance of making a poor decision when in a poor state of mind.

i've come too close for comfort.. and thank goodness I realised the dangers of consequence before having to read a story as tragic and sad as this one (with relation to both the victims, their families, and the girl who caused all the damage)...

Why aren't there action groups out there promoting safety in this respect.. I'd be happy to volunteer testing people to make sure they are safe to drive!

but yes.. drugs are not necessarily the primary cause for this sort of thing..

I too have driven SOBER with my eyes hanging out of my head.. I worked for 12 hours doing both physical and brain work... then drove 8 hours to my next destination due to time restraints... this was WORK pressure... I couldnt say no... so i did it.. just lucky to be here to tell the tale.

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but i love catching the train back after a long night of dancing your tits off and listening to great music.

Sure come down can be a bitch at times, and that walk to the station can suck, but it's when you finaly get there all tired, you still find the ability to chat with friend and random people about how much the night rocked. Ohh, and theres that thing when a train goes past you can still hear the beats and the doof and start to dance to the rhythm of the train.

Though the greatest things is when you get on the train: sitting down on the seat, putting your head back, closing your eyes and rocking gently (hopefully on a Tangara!) For me it's like meditation, your at the greatest peace and relaxation, though with the only worry that you might miss your stop!

^^ ahhh yes, the joys of the ScatTrain. i've enjoyed many train rides home after nights out (in the 3.5 years i've been partying i've never once driven home, and obviously refuse to be driven by others who've had substances). the trick is don't leave it until you've fully come down (and hence feel like complete shit) before you get on the train. and make sure you don't leave the party/club so early that you have to sit on a cold rail platform for ages, with office workers staring at you ;)

otherwise the ScatTrain can be a lot of fun. and much much safer.

DQ, i certainly hope life is getting better for you, i found your attitude to be fantastic and am really glad i read this post. It's funny how people just take life for granted, not realising how precious life really is and how in a split-second it can be all over, or your best mate may be dead due to your ignorance, i personally couldn't life with myself if i killed another human being! I will certainly be putting the hard word on my mates after a big night out and thinking/planning before hand.

I recall many a night in my late teenage years when I would drive home late at night and wake up in the morning and have no idea how I got home. Lucky later in life I am much more wiser and would never do it ... its scary how kids/teenagers think they are invincible and nothing could ever happen.

Please everone, dont drive while intoxicated.

Don't drive really tired either! Its just as bad as being under the influence of drugs or alcohol - fatigue can act on your reflexes and instincts and naturally enough, people can fall asleep at the wheel.

I know this isn't related to drugs but even if you've been out at a party or whatever straight, you can still be really tired and not capable of driving safely.

also, dont drive if you are a quadriplegic
that's even more dangerous than pills!

This is such an important thread, its unbelievable how many people don't realise they shouldnt be driving after a big night. It took me a year of driving to realise after a big night (just) drinking i really shouldnt be in the car before lunch the next day. As I realise the focus of this thead is driving after drugs, but i've often been to parties they have lasted well into the early hours of the morning, and have woken to find those that had driven had all drove off home by 9 o'clock that morning. to me it makes no sense if you have the money to buy drugs and drink, a taxi or train ticket shouldnt be a struggle. Weighing it up really it makes one wonder what happened to common sense and a sense of responsibility.

I've lost family to a drink driver like many others, and its sooooo preventable. Really people just think, how can it be worth it?

^ I think preacha was referring to my post :\

I thought it was worthy of comment as a few people go out straight, but in staying out all night and dancing etc, get really tired.

I think I have typed out about 10 replies for this thread .. but never submitted one.

My good friend died in Canberra 5 years ago in a textbook drug and alcohol crash (she wasn't the driver). Sad moment and before I was really into drugs properly ... but I swore I would never drive scat or drive with people when they are scat (if even I didnt know what 'scat' was).

It saddens me greatly that the club culture is to drive to an event and drive home. I too have seen people say stuff like "I love driving while scat, its so fun! I'm not affected negatively at all." I would like to see venues taking more responsibility like drinking establishments are required to. A pub would probably be in a lot of shit if they allowed someone to drive home after 12 beers, but a club letting thousands of people flood to the carpark after 12 pills attracts little attention or concern. Obviously this increased duty of care and responsibility could only come with the decriminalisation or even legalisation of club drugs (specifically ecstasy).

But seriously, don't take drugs and drive .. and especially don't lie to yourself by claiming that it doesn't effect your perceptions. 99/100 you will arrive home safely, but one night you may just encounter a situation on the road that requires your FULL attention, concentration and reaction speeds ... failure to react accordingly will lead to loss of life (your lucky if it turns out to be only you).

From the very first moment I started clubbing and raving, I have always just got buses, trains and taxi's ..

Yeah very true. i was driving to uni the other day, it was early in the morning and i hadnt slept at all and i was just thinking i so shouldnt be doing this, this is so dangerous. definitely nearly the same feeling as being on drugs. so yeah, its a no go. dont do it.

wow... i'm shocked but pleased this thread is still here! haven't visited bluelight for months and months, but yeah i still hope some people read it and have a little think before they get in their cars.

*bump*
