Bupe Subutex Has Gone Generic

I got switched to subutex and went to several chain pharmacies to no avail, I ended up finding a mom and pop shop within walking distance that had name brand. I was not aware that roxanne was on backorder until around april so my budget for living is fucked and I feel more like a junky than ever paying ten dollars a pill.

Going to the new pharmacy that isnt your run of the mill chain was a good thing though cause they have the generics on order for as soon as they ship and they are also considerate of my being broke and bending some rules to "look out for my interest"

I will probably post back if and when the generics come around again. I assume they must be making billions if they underestimated demand the first time. in the mean time I have to wean myself down and fight being borderline sick to be able to keep on. FU-RB Suboxone doesnt taste like "orange" ans tapering is a bitch with the shape of the subutex pill. ROXANNE - My new favorite sting song.

Generic Bupe Suspended due to Lawsuit

So ~2 weeks ago I saw my doc and I was surprised to learn that Reckitt Benckiser are suing Roxane, the manufacturers of generic Buprenorphine and the distribution of the drug has been suspended. I was lucky to fill my 90 day script during the window that they were available, but now R/B are getting uptight about their patent. I recall Purdue going through similar motions with Teva. Purdue didn't win, and I doubt R/B will. However, until there is a judgment, generic bupe is unavailable.

I couldn't find any information on the case besides what I heard from my doc and strange status from my care provider: This Medication Cannot Be Dispensed At This Time.

I was wondering if anyone had any more info on this case. I called up Roxane's customer service to see what I can get out of them and I'll update y'all when I have some info. I hope they don't call me at 5AM considering that I'm on the West Coast. If anyone has any information in the mean-time that would be great.

i'm going through the same BS right now!!! its crazy... every pharmacy has said the same exact thing.. and I live in Wisconsin where Buprenorphine and Suboxone prices are nearly twice as high as other states.. I don't get it?... but i'm about to be a very pissed off dope sick mf'er pretty damn soon!!!

I told every last single one of you all R&B is a monopoly. People told me BS when I brought up bringing Buprenex back.

No wonder, I can now tell most of you all like the gross taste of Suboxone and wouldn't prefer anything as a cheaper alternative. No hard feelings guys! I definitely wasn't right and had no point in saying we should bring Buprenex back.

Actually this is kind of "drug news" so I'm going to move this to DitM.

If DitM mods want to send it back here, I can merge it in with the Generic Subutex thread.

So, I learned from them this morning that they expect to have the generic Buprenorphine available by the end of March. Hooray!

I went to 6 different pharmacies to try and get my last script filled. No wonder the drug is on back order. It's a good thing I finally found someone able to fill my script this month and hopefully this bullshit is over next month when I get my next script filled.

You are right about R&B..they have the market cornered. But what's that have to do with suboxone staying in stock?

When you have a market monopolized, you will never go out of stock. It would be foolish to.

Do you ever see Windows "selling out" of an operating system?

Do you see the U.S. Government and the American people running out of heroin, cocaine, meth, crack, tobacco, alcohol, or weed?

Do you think MasterCard or Visa would ever stop accepting new customers?

etc.

Mandatory17 - I have not heard anything. Hopefully they will be in stock though, people deserve a generic (more affordable) version of buprenorphine.

Just wanted to say that that I was easily able to pick up my generic subutex yesterday at my usual CVS pharmacy. I have been getting the generic subutex for the past 4 months and not once has there been an issue with it being out of stock. I live in NJ by the way.

I was reading the last few posts of this thread yesterday before I went to the pharmacy, and I got nervous they would be out of stock so I gave the pharmacy a call. When I asked if they had the generic subutex in stock, the pharmacist said, "Yea we've got tons of it". I feel fortunate that I have not had any problems getting generic subutex considering how much difficulty many here seem to be having.-DG

Haha same here man, I once again walked into a random pharmacy last weekend with my script of #42 generic subutex 8mg and got it filled without a problem. 1st try. I'm in NJ also.

^ thats good news DG and stuckinaloop.. for some people lol. im still on suboxone and my dr wont switch me to subutex even though there's a generic for it and it would be cheaper for me since im poor lol. but i hope sometime in the future ill be able to at least TRY buprenorphine without the naloxone even if i only get 1 pill, i just want to see if there is a difference in how they feel. I would be IVing btw.
But that's good to hear that it can still be available for people to get!

Have you noticed a difference in how it feels compared to suboxone or is it just about the same?

I personally like subutex better (dont notice a different ebtween generic and brand name) because I always got a headache for a while after dosing with suboxone. With subutex I don't have that problem, probably becuase of the lack of nalaxone (sp?).

Honestly though if switching is important to you, you could switch doctors because there are a lot out there, no reason to be stuck with one you don't like.

well, honestly i do like my dr, never been drug tested at all and he's cheaper than other drs because i started there so long ago i pay 50 dollars less than the other patients for the appt. and i dont have much money so 50 is kinda a lot for me lol.. but i like suboxone it just that id rather have the cheaper generic subutex. i have my next appt on friday, maybe i can talk him into it then :\ .

and where im living at the moment (with my grandparents in maine :\ ) he's the only dr thats somewhat close to here 45min away.. if i was gonna travel further i could just go back to my old dr in NH but he costs more, a LOT more.

First off, pardon my bluntness but Why the FUCK won't your doctor let you switch to subutex??
The only reason I can imagine for this is that he is under the illusion that the naloxone is actually active and it makes the bupe "less abusable".
Now...if this were indeed true, then he would have a valid reason for not wanting to switch you to subutex. Howevever as we all know, this idea is complete bullshit and the naloxone does NOTHING in terms of making bupe less abusable.
If you haven't tried already, you really need to attempt to explain this to your doctor-especially now that there is a generic subutex which would save you a ton of money.

Sorry, I just get REALLY annoyed when I hear about doctors making decisions for their patients based upon wrong information. You SHOULD be saving money, and the reason you aren't is because your doctor doesn't understand the pharmacology of the drug in which he claims to be an expert.

And no, I don't notice any difference between suboxone and subutex..you know why? Because the naloxone is inactive when in the presence of buprenorphine.-DG

If I was you I would just tell your doctor it is strictly a financial situation. I mean I am not saying give him an ultimatum but... but I mean you can tell him this treatment is very expensive, if I go elsewhere i fill my script for 1/3 the price or less, I don't want to find a new doctor I like you, the only reason I want to switch is the cost.

Also, how many pills do you get per script? You will probably save well over 50 by getting generic so finding a new doc may not end up costing you

DG..i know the bupe out competes the naloxone cuz i IV it daily but i've heard people say that subutex has a better rush for some reason.. thanks for the reply. I see my dr in a couple days so ill try to talk to him about it then again..

true. good point, ill see what happens friday.

I also read somewhere else that it is available right now, Walgreens, CVS and Wal Mart's received a shipment from what I can tell. Hopefully I shouldn't have any issues this weekend, and won't have to drive 160 miles again LOL ;)
