Bupe Subutex Has Gone Generic

I just want to check in and say that this information is a little misleading. If I were you guys I would stick with the generic subutex scripts if you can!

The quoted poster doesn't mention what pharmacy he/she goes to, but IMO they should have tried to go elsewhere before paying all that $ for the brand name. Take my word for it...you will probably have luck if you search around a little.

As for Roxane being out of stock until the 3rd week of March, that may or may not be true (depending if your pharmacist lied to you lol). But lets assume it IS true.

Either way, pharmacies, like CVS and Walgreens for example, get their drugs distributed through their own warehouses (ie. Walgreens pharmacy has drugs sent from a Walgreens distribution warehouse who buys probably directly from Roxanne).

What this means, is that while Roxanne may be backlogged and behind on production, these distributers could (and DO) still have the generics sitting around.

I am scripted #42 8mg every 2 weeks (don't take close to that much)...today is 2/16/10 and Duane Reade in NJ says their distributer has it in stock if I want to order it. I have been using them every 2 weeks, and they order it the night before for me, I just checked again today after reading your post, and the pharmacist says buprenorphine hcl 8mg is still showing as in stock.

I called the CVS I used to use in a different part of NJ...and they HAVE the generics in stock so it's nto even an issue of ordering lol. I'll be paying them a visit later to get my generic script filled for $15.

just a warning for anyone trying to switch, I am going thru absolute H3LL trying to obtain the generics, they are back-ordered until the third week of March, from Roxane. So anyone that is trying to switch right now, please hold off until AFTER March so you don't have to go through this mess that I've been dealing with. Thankfully I was finally able to have a pharmacist call Roxane today and find out what was really going on. So now, back to square one, Brand name Subutex it is, for $417.00 per 45 pills, I'm in exactly the same boat I was in before I went through the huge hassle of getting my doc. to make the switch in the first place. Good luck everyone, I don't think Roxane was prepared to have their generic Subutex in such high demand as soon as it was released. :P

UPDATE**

After I went by my 2 minute sub doctor appt, I was going to drive 30 mi. to get the generic subutex filled to the CVS I usually use that's open 24 hours a day ... This is the CVS that I said I called and they had it in stock without ordering.

Anyway, I thought just for the hell of it, I walked into the Walgreens thats literally next door to my apt AND THEY HAD THE GENERIC SUBUTEX IN STOCK TOO.

That's two brick and morter pharmacies, one which I randomly picked, that had it in stock. AND Duane Reade ordered it for me over the phone and said they would have it the next day (like to keep my options open since this guy above me scared me thinkin i wasnt gonn abe able to get shit filled).

Just letting everyone know, it's still worth it to switch to subutex, even if Roxanne was out of stock till the 3rd week fo March, it seems ilke distributers stocked up.

Even with oxy, back when they recalled the a215 30mg oxy IR's...manufactures had to stop makin and selling the product, but distributers still had it in stock and these were still on the streets months after production stopped

so do they make generic Suboxone yet? I had read somewhere they did, but honestly, I would rather be on Subutex if I could talk my Dr into scripting it.

Im on the generic subutex. I have been on the Brand Subutex for about a year before I switched a month ago.

My doc is really cool, writes for kpins, somas, and ambien, and is really cheap

50 dollars and he writes 1 refill for each med
no piss tests or bullshit, and he actually gives a shit

If anyone in Ga is needing a good sub doc contact me

Damn he does sound good, hey lemme ask you somethin.

Is your doctor just a general practicioner? My sub doc is sweet as hell too...im wondering if I could get on xanax. or some benzo for daytime. He gives me temazepam at night and they are sweet...I sleep good if I want or I can stay awake fine on them.

I just feel like i start craving like a mother fucker and mad anxiety especially when i knwo my paycheck is comin...ffeel like benzos would help that. I finish mysleep script mad quick it'd be nice to have somethin for the day then take the other shit at night when needed.

Yes he is an internal medicine doc

Mostly he just deals with disablitly cases now. People that have gotten hurt and he evaluates them,

He also acts as an expert witness for pharmacology and that takes most of his time

No they do not. Sorry.

It would be easier if Suboxone was never created, many people who can't afford Suboxone would otherwise (have an opportunity to) get buprenorphine for a more affordable cost.

Try the PAP for Suboxone. :)

you guys have been so lucky that they had them in stock, I wrote down every pharmacy I called within a 60 mile radius here in Cali, Walgreens, CVS, and Wal Mart, EVERY single one said they didn't have it on the shelves nor would it allow them to order it. The lady at Walgreens called their supplier for me (finally) and they told her it was back-ordered until the 3rd week of March, same instance for CVS, I know a pharm tech in the pharmacy and she said that it came up as unavailable to be ordered right now. She said once it became available it would automatically be sent to them instead of the brand Subutex... this is truly crappy for me. Sounds like it might just be Cali that isn't able to get it right now. don't know what else to do, I literally made 15-20 phone calls to numerous different pharmacies! Any thoughts on what I should do? Maybe just ask them why the heck it's widely available in other states but not here? eek... it sucks, paying $90 for 10 of he 8mg tabs until the generics come back in stock :(

in essence I wasn't trying to tell people the generics were a bad thing, I've literally just been thru the ringer trying to locate them. It was no problem a month ago & now all of a sudden it's unavailable everywhere. I don't give up easily either or just stop trying when one pharmacy tells me no, I speak directly with pharmacists to make absolutely sure they give me the correct info! Sorry for any mis-understanding again, but I'm at a loss here... :P

I have had no issues in nor cal with generics. Walgreens seems to always be instock. Or plan ahead with doctor and order online might work if yourbusing insurance.

dang, thanks newone, I'll try calling EVERY single one of the Walgreens, CVS's, and Wal Marts that I tried last week since my 10 brand subs are almost gone again. I'll be letting them know that I find it rather odd that someone else in Norcal has them, yet they're all telling me it's impossible... what area are you if you don't mind me asking, general idea would be great so I can tell the pharmacy that so-and-so in this area has them available? I'm bay area, and tried at least 5 different Walgreens, 5 different CVS's and 5 different Wal Mart's roughly... frustrating! thanks again for your help!

I don't know definitively, but I doubt they will ever make a generic suboxone, for many reasons. Its a 'flawed' formulation to begin with, and it would be more expensive/difficult to create/test/gain FDA approval (when compared with subutex). Other reasons in my head that I forgot/don't care to type. Its a shame more doctors aren't willing to go suboxone ---> generic subutex, though I believe more and more will as time goes on and they are educated on the subject (or showered with pens, free lunches, and golf outings from Roxane).

Anyway, I was just going to check in and say I've been on generic subutex for a few months now, I am quite happy with them (comparing them to suboxone, as I never had the original subutex). It dissolves just as fast, or faster, than suboxone, has practically no taste, and more importantly, is dirt cheap. No "the generic is weaker" nonsense either. Holds me over just as well as suboxone did, possibly even better but thats probably in my head, it feeling better since it doesn't taste awful. Props to Roxane Labs for creating this generic; its a very good drug in every aspect.

^Awesome post, JC, and thanks for the update! We can only hope that the doctors become more willing to prescribe Subutex, but that pesky naloxone lie poses a pretty big problem...

I had to stop taking suboxone becuase I couldn't afford it and was waiting fo the generic. Well now i'm not going to the same dam Dr. after all those years of paying, pisses me off lol. Plus I got used to that shitty orange taste after awhile, it would of been nice to have somthing normal and cheap/ would of saved so much $$$.

warehouses were empty of gen sub right after it came out. my first script of 60 8 mg was 149.99 @ 'greens. they did not have this in stock & i had to wait until the next day which was ok cause i had some. the clerk told me it was gonna be $200 something on the first day. i'd read that it was cheaper so i called other pharmacies. my sub doc is an hour and a half away from here so no local pharmacies had any in stock and everyone of them didn't know when they could get it because of the apparent shortage. they all quoted the over 200 price when they could actually get them later. i got mine the next day for 149.99. i purchased some sort of walgreens prescription card that would give me discounts
on other scripts, too. i was stoked to get them for 150.
next month, they were like 229 with my discount. roxane labs are to blame for the substantial price increase in generic subs.

Ima let everyone know whats good thsi weekend when I get my script and try and fill it. Hopefully it's problem free like is has been. I asked like 2 different Duane reades to order shit for me last week tellin em I was gonna be in with a script, so hopefully noone else got generic subutex and i'll be able to use one of those if everywhere is out of stock.

Other wise how much do you people pay on average per pill for 8mb subutex? My insurance is $15 for generic and 50% off brand so i REALLY dont wanna ahve to fuck wit brand name shit

Right now the demand is way higher than the supply. In south florida, 95% of the pharms are out of generic subutex, and they say that no more will be coming for months.

I do know of one pharm that has a supply stashed away, but once that runs out...

thanks for the PM Newone, I can't reply to you since I'm not a bluelighter yet, but wanted you to know I got your message & appreciate it very much :)

glad someone is agreeing with the info I've put out there Brose, I was told by a pharmacist today that the reason why other pharmacies here in Norcal still have them available is because of allotments for different cities/regions or whatever. I have a pretty good feeling that it will become unavailable to everyone (not just me lol) VERY soon. I'm not crazy, I even told the pharmacist 'everyone thinks I'm nuts because I can't locate any generics at any pharmacy I've called' and she said 'no you're absolutely right, it is NOT available to be ordered at this time, and the only reason others may have been able to obtain it is because they may have still had it in stock at the actual pharmacy'

So as I posted above, best of luck to everyone, this sounds like it is going to become much more of a widespread issue all over the States fairly soon I'm assuming....
