Bupe Subutex Has Gone Generic

definetly prefer the brand name subutex if i got the dough! now there coming out witha like "listerine type strip you put on ur tounge for suboxone" the pharmacist said early Jan, the only thing good about that is he siad they "disolve instntly"(doubt that) anyways thought id add that not to get off topic.

2 things-

a local mom and pop shop in Fl finally is able to get the generics and charges less than walgreens INITIAL low price... about $65 for (30) x 8mg. so check your local pharmacies!

also, someone said earlier in this thread that crushing the pills would 'affect' SL absorption. i wonder if he meant increase or decrease?

i ask because when i first started on suboxone, i was salivating a great deal and the pill was dissolving very rapidly. i was swallowing alot of the bupe. my doctor told me to put the pill up in between my gums and inside of cheek by my top molars. he said that the slowness with which it dissolves up there means that more of it gets absorbed my the tissue because there's much less bupe/saliva being swallowed during the process.

this is the way i usually dose and i think it absorbs more than creating a saliva/bupe solution under your tongue and swallowing half of it. i would think that trying to hold powder under your tongue would cause the MOST bupe/saliva to be swallowed, hence LESS absorption.

i wonder if anyone who knows about absorption could explain the truth of the matter?

Unfortunately, my Walgreens has the generics on backorder until Feb. (at the distribution center). So I had to fork out $130 for 20 Suboxone 8mg. I went back to the doctor and got a script for Suboxone instead of Subutex because it is about $100 cheaper a script (brand names). So that sucked for me. I've been keeping my eye on the whole generic changeover and I have yet to benefit.

^^I dose under the tongue and because they are sooo tart, I tend to swallow a lot of the bupe through my saliva. I know that your whole mouth is a mucous membrane which allows for absorption but my guess is that I am swallowing at least 30% of my dose untintentionally. And that's with leaving the sub in my mouth for twenty minutes.

that sucks. before your next appt i would definitely call around your local pharmacies (not walgreens or any of the big chains) to see who carries it, how long to order, and cost.

you find an accommodating pharmacy, itll save you MAJOR in the long run. worth the effort IMO.

Thanks Brose, I'll be checking the local pharmacy next time first. I ended up refilling my suboxone when I ran out my first scrip, the 2 weeks of generic subutex, I had a refill left a Kaiser of Suboxone, they told me it wouldn't be covered by my insurance after the first 3 months of my coverage since I was seeing a doctor outside of Kaiser (I'll hold back the rant about Kaiser) but my husband went to pick it up for me and they ran it through our insurance anyway (if they didn't we weren't going to pay for it, I was just going to pick up my subutex refill)! LOL $20, BIG difference from $190 or so!

I agree that putting powder under your tongue most likely does make you swallow most of it. I've found the best it to suck it up (literally) and just let it dissolve even though it tastes NASTY...

Anyone know anything about Pharmaca pharmacies? Just wondering, I just noticed there is one in town. I know they are a compounding pharmacy, I bet they'd have an easy time ordering gen. subs, assuming they were available to them. Hmm.

Man, I just had my doctor switch me from Suboxone to generic Subutex, thinking the price would be cut in half, but for 60 Suboxone, at the cheapest place I could find was $376 with no insurance. So I was like fuck yeah, it's only going to be like $200 bucks now! Even my doctor said they'd be a lot cheaper. When I filled it, it was 350 dollars or so. What the fuck? Only 25 bucks cheaper for generics? Is it because Bupe itself is so expensive? Or are other people finding it to be a lot cheaper and I just need to ask more places?

Over here in the UK, most pharmacies are using the small "Arrow" pharmactuticals generic subutex now.

I asked about it, and they said that most clients preffered them as they dissolved quicker/better (they are tiny tablets) - so "supervised" consumption scripts are quicker for them to deal with, as diversion is so difficult once the pill is in the mouth.

I find them easy as hell to bang, they dissolve in seconds - and as they are so much smaller you don't have as much gunk to deal with.

Smuggling the tablet past the pharmacist is the hard part!

did you actually get the generics, though? because i went to the doc today and he told me that the generics are all out of stock pretty much everywhere... had to get brand suboxone this month.

I've had no problems getting generics in California since they have come out.
People who are having troubles, have you asked your prefered pharmacy to order more for upcoming months? I'm sure they would be happy to adjust their order rather than you go to another store.

no generic suboxone yet, CH.

dont even know if its coming... ive heard nothing on it. and my doc is pretty tuned in to whats going on with subutex/suboxone.

can i ask whats the difference between generic and non generic?

i take it this is in the USA its going to be avalible to buy things like that are never legalised to buy in the uk ( i hate our drug laws so much sometimes )

the only difference between brand name and generic subutex (other than the negligible differences in the inactive ingredients / fillers) is the price.

I have a question for those who snort their subutex.
I understand the new generic subutex are alot harder and are more difficult to break up and crush.
But once you succeed in breaking up the generic subutex and crushing it into a powder, can it be snorted just as effectively as the original brand name subutex?

I recall reading that the new generics have some different binders then the brand name subutex, and that it would be dangerous and/or ineffective to snort the generics? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

I have been on brand name subutex for awhile now, and I snort around 2-3mg per day for my maintenance dose. I would like to try the generics since they are cheaper, but if I can't take then intranasally, or if it would be more dangerous or less effective to snort the generics as opposed to the brand name subutex, then I will probably just stick with the brand name subutex. So does anyone have any info on this? Thanks-DG

The problem with snorting these Roxanne labs generics - and even name brand Subutex, is that unless you are snorting very small doses you have to snort enormous amounts of powder for very very little actual buprenorphine.

The only Subutex I would consider snorting (that I'm aware of) would be the UK "Arrow" Pharmacuticals generics. A crushed up 8mg tablet would just be one small line.

Hey folks.

I've been out for a while, but I hope to switch to these shortly:

I thank my folks for my insurance everyday, which I will lose soon. My suboxone costs $1125/month otherwise. I cannot handle the taste, it makes me quite sick actually. I tried to switch to Subutex, but my insurance crapped out and I certainly can't afford out of pocket. I've been waiting for something like this for a while.

I'm somewhat concerned about the absorption issue. Can anyone elaborate more? I'm on 32/day... is why.
