Bupe Subutex Has Gone Generic

Captin Hero...LMAO

OMG Captin...I saw this picture and my mouth started to drool! LMFAO, where in gods name did you find this picture? I mean the size of it is huge! I was taking vicodin for 10 years at 50 pills a day then went on Suboxone 32mg for 7 yearsd, got tappered off and my last dose was 2mg in March 2009, well by April I went to my doc and told her I can not live like this and she got me back on 8mg a day. She said I will need to get down to an even lower dose but she thinks I will need it for life. Thanks for making me laugh today! Love the picture!:)

Thanks for the info, I will stick to the brand name Suboxone. Gotta love those orange swords.

WHen is it SUBOXONES TIME FOR GENERIC??

Thank you for the info, I have been trying to find out when they will come out with generic for Suboxone, I was on it for 7 years and always paid full price for it at $8 a dam pill. Once in a while I would be able to get on the PAP and get them for free depending on my income, I did get them for free for 1 year. I know just got insurance and pay $50 a month for a script. But again thank you for the link and the info!!:)

Roxane Labrotories won Approval for Generic Subutex yesterday. No info on when it will hit the pharmacy shelves or price.

http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/NewsEvents/ucm130961.htm

The site is having issues on and off at the moment.

As of now there are no pending generics for Suboxone however.

For those interested here is a link to the Bio-equivalence trial they did on the generic a while back

http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00992095?spons="Roxane+Laboratories"&spons_ex=Y&rank=50

I for one will insist my doctor switch me to a generic subutex if it is cheaper then a branded Suboxone, until a generic Suboxone is out.

Maybe try another Walgreens?

You could try filling the script in FL where others have had success.

Being in east central Georgia, Florida is a good 300 + miles away. I might try South Carolina, IF it is a state thing. I don't know why it would be, but I will be picking up my script tomorrow from this Walgreens and shop around. If I have to, I will go across the border to SC. Wish me luck.

lol

I found it online somewhere I forget where though.

I definitely was like :D when I saw it too.

Suboxone is really popular among some people. I think it has great analgesia potential.

Suboxone will likely never have a generic; it's rather unfortunate everyone can't have Subutex (it's the same damn thing).

$50 is a great deal for 30 N8's. That's roughly 21 cents per MG. When I take 1/6th of a MG at a time, that's only ~3.5 cents per dose. Much cheaper than heroin I must say!

My short version of this great adventure we are all on.
Started with Vicodens...tolerance got so high it was more economical to swith to OC 80s....long term, not a good idea. At my peak I was ranging from 2-5 oc80s a day...at xx a pill that gets expensive fast and with a highly responsible job I couldn't go in dope sick: which would onset about 6 hours after last dose.
This span of usage was over about 2-3 years.....drained me, my soul, my bank account, and many friendships. Opiates originally gave me the "superman complex" but later became required to just be normal. We all know the feeling.
Last year my fiancé and I tried to kick it using suboxone bought off the streets. Not knowing much about it I believed my price gouging source that 10 8Ns will do the trick with a rapid titration down over about 15 days....DID NOT WORK went right back to the dope each time. I had insane pressure in my chest that was unbareable and oc was the cure.
Fast forward another year and thousands of dollars later my fiancé and I decide if we don't get professional help NOW we will be living on the street. So we booted up the CPU and went to the reccomend/available doctor lists for our area and that week made a joint appt for us both and the following day individual appt's for scripting and our own recovery plans.
Great doc! No UA's, doesn't believe in subscribing suboxone unless you IV as the naloxone is an added chemical that provides no benefit for the sniffer and smokers: it's just another chemical in your body. I started early July at 3.5 8mg suboxone daily and am now down to 2mg a day (flip side, fiancé is still at a close level to when she started) I wanted to make the decreases as fast as possible as I have read the longer you on the longer it takes to get off, but with that it takes time to undo physical and emotial habits, ties, and triggers built up over years.
OK....now on to the point of why I posted this here....
In October when I went to fill my two scrips (subs and xanax) the pharmasist asked if I was ok with generics on my 2nd script...assuming it was the Xanax I said "sure".
When I came back to pick them up the usual xx bill

I was in shock! This is with Cigna ins btw. Brand name was w/o insurance $xx + 8mg, and $xx + for 2mg......now my generic 2mg retail no ins at $xx a pill!!! Amazing! Without I insurance it was almost more practicle to try and just continue OC and try and keep it at a pill a day(yeah right) I do t remember what my fiancé pays fo the 8mg generics, but it is significantly cheaper.
Brand names are oval shaped generics are round. I feel no difference oter than a slight change in taste. I only opted to use the 2mg pills, regardless of their high price in comparison to the 8s, beacuse I wasn't certain I could get those 8mg into even 1/8th doses and therefore fluctuating my dosing constantly. The 2mg provide me
with a much more accurate knowledge of my intake.....AND NOW ARE COST EFFECTIVE!!!!
My doctor had no clue the generics are out and was stoked to hear that he can help aleviate the high cost of pills for many patients and male it easier for us to pay him!
There are a lot of good references and information in this thread which I'm going to compile and share with my doc so he can be more knowledgable with what the pharms are doing. He's older, pretty laid back, has his conspiracy theories about the gov overseeing how he treats his patients, how all records are electronic now and confidentiality is shot to shit around your 3rd insurance provider change.
Sorry if this was a little off topic and long, but seemed a fitting place for my "story" ad share my experiance with the generic release. Located in Norther California for pharmacy price comparisons.
MODs, feel free to edit this, Move, or create a new topic if I swayed too much off track.
Good luck to you all, enjoy saving some extra cash in the months to come, and remember be patient...it takes time to undo years of bad decision making. It will pay off! Also, if you do happen to relapse use it as a learning and growing tool to your recovery and don't beat yourself up over it.
One day at a time! And those of you getting you OC on the streets, it's a huge releif not having to put your wellbeing or ability to go to work in the hands of a usually flakey, overpriced, self absorbed dealer who you buy all their drugs for! If your reading this and on the fence about getting off opiates now is the perfect time, generics are out, they are cheap, there's quit a few online resources to find a doctor nearby, and it's neve ever too early or late to regain you freedom!
Again, sorry for the novel....I've wanted to share for a lon time. Before I quit BL provided so much info and support that I have to give back and hope I can have a slight influence on someone life just as all the other members had influences to mine and how i dealt with my, little life setback.

Newone,

I am curious about what prices you were quoted on the generics, I'm also in Norcal, and got a CRAZY range of prices on sub generics (well, the pharmacies that could give me a price anyway) and now I'm freaking out because I'm reading around that Walgreens is having a problem ordering them & my scrip. is sitting at a Walgreens, supposedly ordered last Wednesday, I'm very afraid on Monday I'm going to go in and they're going to tell me they are brand name subs because the generics were unavailable :X

I found them over in NJ for around 3$ a piece for 90...but CVS had them priced at 5$ a piece and had them....and walgreens had them priced at around 377$ but you could get it down to 317 by paying 20$ for the prescription plan for the year..however they were on long term order.....this is all without insurance.....however it was quite a task because most pharmacies did not have them and they are on long term order....meaning the manufacturer is getting too many orders for how fast they are producing them....:D Good Luck in your venture...I'm just pumped i got them and for that cheap....and my doctor switched me, finally some good luck....

Thanks for the info, well if Walgreens doesn't end up getting them for me I guess I will have to go hunting at all pharmacies in the area. Thank god I am close to a TON of other cites, in the bay area, CA so HOPEfully here they should be available somewhere. I too am just thankful my doctor switched me, that was definitely the first obstacle! ;)

Active Ingredients

I found the active Ingredients and all other information here.

http://bidocs.boehringer-ingelheim.com/BIWebAccess/ViewServlet.ser?docBase=renetnt&folderPath=/Prescribing+Information/PIs/Roxane/Buprenorphine+HCl+Sublingual+Tabs/10004964_01+Buprenorphine+HCl+Sublingual+Tabs.pdf

Here is the ingredients from that PDF.

What are the Ingredients of Buprenorphine HCl Sublingual Tablets?
Active Ingredients: buprenorphine hydrochloride
Inactive Ingredients: anhydrous citric acid, corn starch, crospovidone, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, mannitol, povidone, and sodium citrate.

Good to know, Bobak. There's no talc in these as far as is stated here.

I am not familiar with all of these inactives, but the major nasty ones don't appear to be present (magnesium stearate is no good but it is not water soluble).

I have noticed the concern over the new generic and what the inactive ingredients are. So I looked it up from the Roxane website itself to verify that there is no Talc in the formula.

I understand that the pill is not intended for IV or Intra-nasal route but addicts are addicts after all and we do not want someone to die because he or she tried to inject a pill. So I am glad they made this using other ingredients and none of that Talc.

This is a great forum were I have always found good information so Thank You to all of the members here for being so helpful! :)

I wanted to put Suboxone, Subutex and then Generic Subutex ingredients here for all of you to see. I am not sure which ingredients are good or bad but this is from the patient info leaflet.

hey Newone, thanks for the PM, I can't respond PM because I'm not a bluelighter yet. Didn't realize we couldn't post anything about prices even if it was a pharmacy quoted price, Sorry Mods, won't happen again :)

New Buprenorphine pill (subutex) problems

Hello, I am an addict who has been (on and off) subutex since 2004. Because of the cost of this medication, I would have to hop back and forth from my DOC and subs, depending on how much money I had. Anyhow, I don't think I am the only person who agrees that this new generic version of subutex (Roxane Buprenorphine SL 8mg) was much anticipated, from a financial standpoint, whether you have insurance or not, so when the new edition came out, I was the first in line to get them. They were a little over 3 dollars a pop without insurance for an 8mg. Now, all of a sudden, the price has increased several dollars in barely a month? Has anybody else had this problem? The pharmacy has fed me all types of excuses and all of them are different. Just curious. Thanks.

Sounds like supply and demand. Every patient on suboxone has eagerly awaited a generic version, and no one anticipated that only subutex would come first. Apparently, there is a bit of confusion because some doctors seem to believe they cannot prescribe subutex (mine claims its "only for induction and pregnant women"). Other docs seem happy to help their clients cut their bills. In the end, there was likely an unanticipated number of patients suddenly appearing with new scripts.

I cant even get it at my pharm. im told that ONLY Walgreens and CVS have them it IS ALL SUPPLY and Demand.

It doesn't work like this in Australia b/c the max you pay for an RX is ~$30, but if it pharmacies were run as they are in America, then it would definitely come down to supply and demand. Think about it; addicts are the best customers a pharmacy has! Charge em double and you can guarentee they'll be back either way... I doubt they'd pull this shit with senior citizens' Lipitor or whatever... but they kinda have addicts by the balls, and they know it 8)

We can't tell you anything for sure, only the pharmacy can.

It depends on some other things too.

-> Subutex has gone Generic
