I've been on a very high dose of oxycodone for 6 months, and can't come off it myself. I am seeing the doc today and they may give me a choice between the two..which one would you choose and why?
it's always better to try something different espcially if your tolerance becomes too big, it will allow you to decrease tolerance to oxy and taper for a bit.
And I agree with that as well ^ dr's giving methadone for pain is the most horrible idea ever. It is only good since they can't abuse other pain pills in the mean time. That's the only reason I can think of it.
And what you may want to do, is actually do the suboxone first since it blocks the use of opiates, you won't get high even if you tried. The subutex is hard to get high on, but it is possible. I'd start with the suboxone first as to not slip up, and then subutex for maintenance once you start losing the cravings on a day-to-day basis.
There's really no difference between suboxone and subutex since the naloxone is the suboxone gets "out competed" by the buprenorphine anyway. The buprenorphine in suboxone and/or subutex will block other opiates the same way, considering you are on the same dose of either one.
Since subutex has generics and is therefore cheaper, you may look into being prescribed the subutex instead of suboxone if money is an issue. The subutex will block other opiates from working, the same way that suboxone does.
