Bupe Suboxone/Buprenorphine FAQ & Megathread v3; 2010 - 2022

well it's day three on 2 mg. I have to admit that until this morning I was not feeling my suboxone at this dosage at all. The 72 hour mark seems to be a big stepping stone for tapering when below 4 mg. Glad to have the glow back!

That's exactly how tapering was for me, I'd lower it, and it'd take a few dosages to start effecting me again.

Best of luck to you Zneg! :)

Is there anyone who quit bup after being on it for for long term? its just that am struggling to find anybody..Either some relapse because of PAWS and depression & withdrawals from sub or they switch to another opiate.. What helps bup withdrawals?

^ when you say very long taper how long/slow do you mean? I'm on 2.4 mg and have been for a year after easily reducing from 12mg. I was planning to reduce by .4 a week til i'm off.

Does anyone have experience with this they could share?

^Yeah, once you get under 2mg it gets much harder. I'm not just saying this because you're at 2.4mg-- Most people report bupe being very easy to taper down to around the 2mg level.

That's completely irrelevant. You could inject buprenorphine and naloxone 4:1 and it's impossible for naloxone to take effect and block buprenorphine/cause precipitated withdrawal because buprenorphine has a higher binding affinity for the opioid receptors than naloxone. The disadvantage is overdosing on buprenorphine is hard to be treated with naloxone. The best bet here would be diprenorphine, a drug for awaking large animals after an etorphine shot.

It's not completely irrelevant if your curious about this shit. and yes I know that the nalaxone does nothing, I've shot suboxone like a thousand times. I've just read study's saying that people found pure buprenorphine HCL or subutex in general more pleasurable to I.V. Now whether that means anything or not, who know's but I would like to personally find out for myself.

As for the dcraver877 response about gabapentin, I totally get your feeling about neurontin. I hate it too. but when faced with withdrawal I find that it gets rid of a lot of the symptoms, the anxiety, cold/hot sensation, RLS, and it lets me sleep. That being said, the "buzz" really sucks, and if I had a large amount of xanax around, that would be used instead.

So I'm down to 2 mg of suboxone a day SL! I'm so happy that this taper is working out for me. I'm wondering though, is it best at this dosage to stay on for another week to just get all the remainding suboxone (if there is any) from when I was on 3 mg out of my system, or is that unnecessairy (ive been on 2 mg for a week).

Secondly, where should I go from here? My plan is eventually to at least go a few days in between dosing. Should I taper to 1.5 mg and then to 1 mg and jump from there? Or should I skip the 1.5 and cut straight to the chase?

When you get to like 0.4mg per dose, start decreaseing by 0.05mg per dosage. If this is possible.

My point being - this is what I'm doing (not exact amount but it's the same concept), it's the best way to spare your body and mind most of the unpleasant withdrawal effects. Buprenorphine will be a "long felt" come down. Therefore it might be best to taper the last leg as slow as possible, maybe do every other day doses.

There are things you can do to treat specific parts of the withdrawal process, and they have been discussed highly in depth here. As you go through this yourself you can share what works well so others can have good plans for their recoveries too :)

im the opposite with opiate w/ds.. i think CT is always the best way IME to go.. i know that may sound stupid but it is the only way i can do it.. benzos on the other hand i prefer a year+ long taper lol

Man I have to say two milligrams is an awsome dosage to be on. Less truly is more with suboxone, and that's a truth. Right now my 1 mg dosages 2x a day last just as long and feel 10x better than all that high dosage bull shit. I actually get a little itchy now in the morning when I take my suboxone. I've decided to stay on this regiment for another week as I've got some stresfull shit to do, and then come next monday I'll kick my dose down to .5 mg 2x a day. It's a lot easier I find to tough it out for three days and shed that extra bupe than to slowly taper by .25 micrograms (though I'm tapering sublingually, I found with I.V the best way to trick yourself was to decrease each shot by a minute amount so that you barely feel it). I'm not sure if this is exactly correct, but I believe with dosages under four mg a day, your body actually rids itself of enough suboxone that by the time you dose again you feel a noticable bump. I wish I could just cut out my evening dosage, but I just don't have that kind of willpower today.

I have a new word for those who taper there bupe for effect: suboxone anorexia.

that's actually kinda surprising to me cire, as tapering down from 16 to 2mgs was, for me, very easy and i had practically no discomfort the whole time. It was once i started trying to taper lower than 2 when i started having real problems. just try to stick with it man, maybe take 3mg for a week, then taking 2.5 for a week, then going down to 2. might spare you some pain. Always try to give your body some time to adjust to a dose when you are tapering. A week is actually pretty short considering how long suboxones half life is, 2 weeks may even be better.

i was started on 16mg when i started bupe and the last 2-3 years on it (was on 4 years total) i tapered to anywhere from .5-2mg/day insufflated mostly, did IV occasionally also though. But i am a full believer in less is more, im clean now and have a tiny bit stashed for back pain and when i take it i only do .5mg and i get high like i did some dope... being free from them is great. And it's even greater when your tolerance drops.

^that's my plan, get off and use occasionally. How long did it take for your tolerance to drop?

and to Cire113, How long have you been on your 2 mg dosage? I felt really crappy for three days after dropping to two milligrams. At four days I start to feel my dose again, by day five I really felt it, and now I can say that I almost feel a full agonist high off of it. (Kind of reminds me of what 15 mg of methadone feel like towards the end of the taper.)

But yeah, if you've been on it a while and your miserable it might just not be enough for you right now. However if you've already been on two milligrams for a couple of days, I might try to stick with it a bit longer, just because It's more likely that you'll adjust sooner than later. Also, I know some people are pretty militant about once a day dosing, but I split my doses up into two, and I found that helped me sleep better during the adjustment period. It also gave me the confidence that one mg really can be as good as 2, and I'm sure .5 eventually feels like 1.

i took 2mgs 2x today and felt real nice OHH man reminded me of a full agonist... whereas the last week or so i had been taking 2 mgs a day..

Im gonna try going back down to 2mgs tomorrow

YEah, I mean I think it's great to taper and all, but if you feel like your getting more use out of a larger dose of suboxone for now, I would honestly stay on it. But tolerance for bupe seems to drop pretty quick IME. by the 72 hour mark you'll start to feel 2mg/day, and after a week and a half, I get all itchy from my suboxone. I hope its from my suboxone...

hey dude u told me 1mg to 1ml. but i only have a 30 unit syringe. if im not mistaken 1ml is 100 units. so how many units should i use with 1mg of the sub?
