***Im also not addicted to my suboxone like how EVERYONE is who take it in higher doses. Because im on a low dose, i can stop taking it ANYTIME with no withdrawals. I think that all those people who take high dose suboxone and who cant get off of it without a LOOOONG taper...those are the people that are "abusing" suboxone more than I am. Those are the people who are addicted to there medication....not me. I live my life happy and enjoy the effects I have taught myself to obtain from low dose suboxone....just because I have knowledge of a bettter way of using a medication, doesnt mean im abusing anything. In fact MORE people should be taking suboxone like me.
I'm pretty sure you're on subs maintenance straight from an opiate addiction... right??
If so... I feel it's important to point out you are one of the lucky few who are able to stop low dose subs with no WD's. I've seen similar posts from a few others at BL and another forum who confirm what you say.
However, from what I know, most people who use subs for ORT will have wd's when they quit. The severity usually varies with factors such as duration of opiate use, amount of time on ORT, maintenance dose, level of dose when quitting, age, health...etc. Mental attitude is also important. Someone young and healthy with less use will generally have a much easier time than someone like myself [58 yrs old] who has been on/off MMT since 20yo... First time on MMT was 1972. Most recently I was on MMT continuously for 15 1/2 yrs before switching to subs.
Over the last couple of yrs I've spoken directly with a dozen or more [mostly] young veterans who've tapered off subs. Just about all dropped from a dose less than 1mg. Only a couple of these guys are no longer in the program... so I assume they were successful or else using again. The rest are back on subs because either they couldn't handle the wd's, weren't ready to stop, or else failed because they went back to their DOC.
From personal experience... several mos ago I tapered to .25mg and stayed there for a couple of weeks. When I tried to quit, the WD's were horrible and after about 40 hrs I broke and started back. It felt so good to get the subs back in my system. I think my age and duration of use, were factors in my unsuccesful attempt along with not having enough motivation and dedication. I also didn't use a good strategy including exercise, support, comfort meds... etc. I couldn't handle the insomnia, RLS, nausea, and irritablity. The headaches and other physical pains were tolerable. Anyway, I'm now on 1mg which works well for me.
Once again.. I believe you are extremely fortunate for two reasons.
1. You still get euphoria from bupe even though you've used it for a length of time.
2. You're able to go off and on subs with no wd's.
Thats a hell ova one-two combination to be thankful for. I'd pay a lot of money for my own body/mind to work like yours... and I hope this continues indefinitely for you.
