Bupe Suboxone/Buprenorphine FAQ & Megathread v2; 2010

My program is an abstinence-only program. :\

I know I personally would have never quit using heroin. I would have never quit smoking weed to quit using heroin (seems backwards IMO, quitting heroin is the obvious priority), hence if I was in an abstinence only program, I would either cheat the UA's with other people's clean urine, or I would say fuck it and relapse.

i don't know if my sub doctor allows people to smoke weed or not.. i'll ask him next time i see him just for shits.. i don't smoke it cuz it gives me really bad anxiety/panic attacks. paranoia, and hallucinations (i did smoke in my early teens tho)..

but i think my doctor only cares about testing positive for opiates. im scripted benzos and those popped up on my couple DT's he has given me but he doesn't care, i don't know if it's because it is prescribed by my psychiatrist or if he just doesn't care since it's not what i am seeing him for. He "says" he does random DT's at least 2 times a year, but since i have been seeing him for the past almost 4 years i have only been tested 4 times lol.

I think barely doing DT's during treatment and having just once monthly appointments shows the patient that the doctor trusts them and therefore the patient will respect and trust the doctor more in return and overall make treatment more effective.
I was in MMT before bupe and going to the clinic everyday felt like i was chained down and all the DT's felt like they didn't trust me/ gave me an invasion of privacy type feeling and that's why it didn't work for me.. but since on bupe i haven't used anything other than tramadol (scripted by my sub dr) and it's been great and life changing.

Wow..im really rambling, i don't usually type long-ish posts lol, i have a cold and bought some Primatene tabs (ephedrine, guefinesin(sp?)) and im hyper as hell.

Asking your doc for any of those drugs will get you labeled an addict and would be terribly stupid as only special doctors can prescribe suboxone and subutex. If you have a real good relationship with your doc he might script you methadone but I wouldnt hold my breath.

actually a doctor doesnt have to be "special" to prescribe you suboxone.
All he/she has to do is take like a 2 hr course, which I think is online and then pass a quick little test. Pretty much anyone whose not a complete idiot can do it. There are MANY average/regular GP's who are capable of prescribing suboxone.

Thank you I was afraid of that .... don't want to be labled as an abuser and 10 years later I get into a major accident... you know?

dude, if you have a problem and need help and you think subs might work, theres no problem with looking up a doctor near you who prescribes it and go to him and get help. The chances of getting turned down are very tiny.

Also...there is NO WAY anyone would know that you are on an opiate addiction maintanence medication unless you tell them or unless you give your sub doctor permission to release your medical records from his office.

So NO, you DO NOT have to worry about being on some random list of people who have gotten opiate addiction treatment. No such list exists.

Thank you so much! So if I find a sub treatment doctor, records will NOT be released from his office correct? And to find a sub doc, should I just go on google and find the nearest one?

I heard however, that suboxone doctors are only allowed to have X amount of patients at one time? Is this true?

If you find ANY doctor that prescribes suboxone(remember, ANY doctor could prescribe suboxone...all they have to do is take a quick little course and get certified to prescribe it...theres no special group of doctors that are the only ones allowed to prescribe suboxone and thats all they do). Your family doctor could possibly even prescribe it.
Also, its not just doctors who prescribe you suboxone that cant release your medical records without your consent...its ALL doctors. Just like a psychiatrist cant talk about your sessions with him to ANYONE, neither can a doctor release ANY of your medical information(unless you give him written consent).

yes they do but they raised the amount of patients they can prescribe to a while back and given the number of doctors who can prescribe suboxone now, the chances of you not being able to get on sub maintanence are slim to none.

Long story short....dont worry about that.

im not sure that it is like that here.....the doctors are rare, and few and far between....two doctors at my clinic take care of all the BMT patients.....

ill ask next time

Actually, a psychiatrist can talk to other professionals about you if they see fit. That is what happened to me. I thought I had a private one on one session with my psychiatrist, when after a year she turned my case, and my private records, over to a team of workers.

Now, luckily, I had something telling me not to tell her everything. Even though a certain amount of trust was established. And I am really glad about this, since basically, when the new team took over, they would drop hints at what was in my records and poke fun at me for saying such personal things to her.

I personally felt violated and that my privacy was being abused. But, in the end my problems changed, and life went on.

Health professionals (particularly Psychs) are obligated to report you to authorities if you tell them that you intend to harm yourself and/or others, or commit a crime.

Come on, haven't you people watched The Sopranos?

^^ Only if the crime involves causing harm to someone. You can tell your doctor your a heroin kingpin and your doctor will lose their license and possibly go to prison if they tell the police, and you will not be arrested nor prosecuted based on that information.

this seems like a good place to ask my question, due to all the people in this thread who are prescribed suboxone.

well i just went to a psychiatrist and was prescribed suboxone. I told the doc that i had been on sub for almost a month. he believed me and let me skip the induction, He also let me pic the dose i wanted. he is treating me really nice. (not like a junkie or anything negative)

so my first meet with him was on thursday 11/18. he wrote me a script for 6 8mg subs before i even sat down in his office (before i even paid!) . he wanted me to go to the pharmacy, get the pills, and then be back in about an hour for our actual visit.

so i did.

btw, when i got back from walgreens, he drug tested me.

after our visit he told me to come back in 4 days, tomorrow 11/22. The reason for the appointment is: he is going to review an ADD test he gave me take hom to answer. he is also going to see what i want to do in regards to my anxiety.

but after this 2nd appointment, he is only going to have me come once a month to get my script.

so now im a little worried.... do you think he will drug test me again, so soon, its been 4 days? i did roxys over the weekend, so im pretty sure i would fail.

what would he be looking for in the drug test? and if i failed for roxies... what happens?

I know that none of you can possibly know what he is going to do. but some of you go to suboxone doctors and clinics, and i think you guys may or may not have an opinion on if its likely for him to test me again.

so my question is.... do you think he will test me again, 4 days later? and what happens if i fail?

anyone who reads this... i welcome all and any thoughts. Thanks guys

i was thinking that i cold use my brothers piss, but he doesnt take suboxone or pills. therefore the doc will conclude that im not taking my suboxone. that is another reason they test you rite?

@Philip: yes, they absolutely test you to make sure you are taking your suboxone and not diverting (selling / giving away) your pills. If you really think you are in trouble, is it possible your brother might need to take a small dose of suboxone which will make it will show up in his urine?

- Not sure if it's kosher to be telling people how to beat urine drug screens. If so, apologies mods, please delete out that last sentence

If you fail, it's unlikely he'll refuse to prescribe you anymore Suboxone but it's highly likely that he'll make you take drug test frequently so you can probably kiss that monthly script goodbye until trust is restored.

yes, your doc will definitely test you....atleast coming from all my experience,

i also disagree with the regulator that its unlikely hell kick you out if you fail....he may very well kick you out because of that, ive heard of it happening many times. Especially given that you JUST started with this guy.
