buprenorphine confusion

i have been on dihydrocodeine for years for pain. Today i went to the doctor and told her that i'd built up a tolerance and wanted to change over to something else. I've been prescribed buprenorphine and have taken my first dose. Since i've come straight off the dhc will i get withdrawal symptoms? Also it was only 8 hours after my last dose of dhc. I've only ever stopped taking the dhc once as i'm supposed to take a steady prescribed dose daily, but my body is obviously addicted as when i ran out once i was really ill. Please give of some advice.

^ You may experience precipitated WD as you are supposed to wait until you are already WD'ing before you take the sub.

How long has it been since you dosed?

I need some opinions. I quit doing heroin almost three months ago...I've done morphine twice in the last couple weeks though. I'm really trying to stay clean but all I ever think about is heroin and the only reason I haven't relapsed on it is because I moved to a new state and its not around. would getting on suboxone be a good idea for me since I already detoxed and have mostly been clean for awhile? I just don't see myself being clean for much longer unless I do something

Sub is supposed to help with the cravings... but I don't think you will get it Rx'd unless you are in WD. I would suggest just sticking out the PAWS; things will get better.

thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I took the last lot of dhc at about 3 in the morning then the bupe at 11 which is just under 5 hours ago uk time. It's just bupe on it's own not suboxone and i'm only taking tiny doses for pain. 400microgs three times a day 8 hours apart. What do you reckon? I'm a bit worried. I've never had any withdrawel before except that once i ran out and went without for three days not knowing what would happen- very scary!

Even if it's just bupe, it has a much higher affinity for the opioid receptors then DHC, so it will kick it off the receptors and force WD symptoms.

However if you aren't feeling anything now then I'm guessing you should be OK.

I've been trying to stick it out but I've been getting really bad paws and I'm just all around miserable. my psychiatrist found a dr at the methadone clinic here who does sub also that said he would take me on because I told her I was going to use unless I could get some sort of help.

[No drug testing questions. You seriously have to be kidding me about posting this, especially with the huge announcement at the top of the forum that used this EXACT SAME example in it. ^ No pill IDs. Anyway, great detective work, thinking the 25 on the pill MUST mean its 25mg. They don't make 25mg methadone. Speaking of which, my buddy has some pills that say M357 on them.... they must be 357mg morphine or something. Wow, what a deal.

Anyway, enough of that. They make 5, 10, and 40 (the 40s are wafers, distinctive from pills). So maybe you took 10mg. Or maybe you didn't take it at all, I don't care.

But what you said doesn't even matter. So you like methadone for getting high. Wow. Awesome.

Still though, no pill IDs.

a little mean.....

I'm new to the thread and have a problem switching from methadone to suboxone. I used suboxone years ago for drug use. I started the methadone clinic almost two years ago and was on 240 mg when I walked off. I didn't have the money to pay for my doses so I had no chose. My last dose was a week and a day ago and that was about 90 mg. My doc prescribed suboxone this past Friday, exactly a week after my last dose. I took one that night, but was suppose to take all four, but when I took just one I started feeling worse than I did. So I took another and I went into SEVERE withdrawals, I'm sure I don't have to go into details because I'm sure some of yall know. I mean SEVERE, to the point I couldn't get out of bed and take care of my kids. So I took a second thinking that might help, it got worse. I literally wanted to die! I called my doc last night and told him what was happening and the ass told me to just hold off the suboxone for a few more days. I wanted him to call me in some subutex because I felt it wouldn't send me through DT's, but the jerk wouldn't and just kept telling me to ride it out! After reading all these posts I decided to take 1/4 of an 8 which just now started sending me through DT's and I had been feeling a little better since I had some xanax to help me relax maybe just a little. My question is why in the heck am I going into DT's after a week of not using methadone? I had been taking lortabs this past week to help with the methadone detox, but I didn't even feel those. I know that doc can call me in something, he just won't, just says there is nothing he can do. Yeah there is, subutex, I swear, most of us know more than these docs! So is there any reason I am going through DT like this?

there was no "tapering." I know to taper off, I've been on it for two years AND been on suboxone before. I've been an IV user and pill user for almost 10 years and I'm only 25. My point is I do not understand why I am having DT's on suboxone since I haven't taken ANY methadone in 8 1/2 days and I had been taking lortabs to try and help between my last methadone dose which was like I said earlier 8 1/2 days of 90mg. When you don't have the money at the clinic they don't care, they will not give you your meds so that's why I had to quit cold turkey. At my clinic here in Alabama you don't dose for three days, you get kicked off. You can come back, but if I couldn't afford to drive two hours back and forth once a week for my take homes and then the extra for the meds then I sure as heck couldn't afford to drive back and forth 7 days a week for almost a year to get my take homes again, and they would have started me on 15 mg (doesn't matter I was on 240 mg when I quit) so what's the point of getting back on? That stuff is terrible and has put me through hell. I even called my doc yesterday begging for him to call me in something to put me out of this straight detox from suboxone and he said "ride it out." Yeah, just how long, I even tried a half of 8mg and it's making me feel sick again! He prescribed me 3 8 mg subs at the SAME time. I'm scared to take that many because when I took two I thought I was dying. I started with a half of a half last night and it wasn't so bad. I'm confused, I've started suboxone the SAME day of shooting dilaudid and doing methadone and NEVER have had DT's from it and the doc can't tell me anything but "ride it out." I'm confused and hurting really bad and have two babies to take care of and I just want to feel normal again by taking suboxone but it's doing the opposite.

suboxone question, cant find the answer

suboxone questions

1. if someone only takes 20 to 40mg's per day of oxycodone, what would their starting, and dosage of suboxone be?

2. what milligramms of oxycodone equals mg's of suboxone?

3. what are the first time taken effects of suboxone? and will the effects be the same if a person is use to taking 50mgs of oxy per day, or if you take 300mgs per day of oxy. i guess what im asking is. does one pill work for all levels of tolerance?

thanks

If someone only takes 20-40 oxy a day I'd say just try cold turkey. How long has someone been using.

Other than that no one really knows. Even the doctors will start you small and go up untill you're good. Try that as I'm sure that is the only real answer you'll find.

starting dose should be 2-4mg (thats half an orange pill or the smaller dose comes in its own version) and should be taken about a day or two after the person has stopped taking their normal doses.

the higher tolerance to oxycodone the more suboxone you'll need to get yourself into maintenance. so 20-40mg might only need 4mg but someone taking 300mg will probably need like 32mg initally before tapering down

as for oxycodone to suboxone i dont know if there is direct equialency but they are both opiates so maybe someone else knows gday

2-4 mg is way too much. I take 2 mg with a 120-150mg a day habit. You'd be a lot safer to use as little as possible which I believe is what is recommended in the mega thread. Some days even .5mg insuffalated does the trick all day and I still think that with such a small habit you should go cold turkey to prevent suboxone addiction especially if you are gonna be doing 4mg which is too much for me but YMMV.

thanks guys for answering my question.

im actually taking about 300 to 400mgs per day of oxyocdone... do you guys think that a 2 or 4 mg sub pill will do the job? i have been on 300mgs of oxycontin for 2 years now. im getting ready to get suboxone but want to get more fam. with it. i remember beeing in the hospital, and getting fentanyl after my surgery on the pain pump machine, and it didnt help with my pain at all the constantly adjusted the fentanyl pump believe it or not i was still in withdrawal until i managed to get the doctor to give me my oxycontin dose. im just really sick of oxy, and want to get off eventhough i have alot of pain. im caught between a rock because i need meds for pain, but i cannot deal with the constipation anymore. im thinking the suboxone might work, but i have never tried suboxone, and im worried that it wont work for me. so do you guys think sub will work for me going from oxycontin to suboxone, and what would you say i should start out at mg wise on subs.

thanks, j

You will still have constipation with suboxone. Try senna s stool softner. Suboxone is used more for getting people clean then pain management.
